Well, Chicago needs to step it up. According to the Assistant gm at gameworks, the cincy ohio ae tourney had like 4 times the turnout of last night. Jesus guys we have a city of like what, 6 million? 22 people showed… seriously. Cincy, 2million.
truth is, the structure of chicago (city vs suburbs), and also the structure of the chicago scene, directly results in this “slow-down” as opposed to other areas. Most of the active people now in chicago are relatively young (in fighting games), as in only have been playing for around 2 years (give or take). Events need to tailor better to those circumstances.

There is some truth to that Jerry, but I don’t entirely agree. I think more of the factors lately involve motivation. Some players came out and didn’t play due to the new dynamics of the game which is sad. As well it seems people are afraid of having to play certain known names like Marcus. You should want to play these people, learning experiences are everything. We all need to travel more, myself included. Look at it this way, norcal is split into 3-4 areas of play, yet they still come together for larger meet ups and tournaments. In reality we should attempt the same thing. But with current, “that’s Chicago” mentality we are always going to be one of the more dead areas of the Midwest. / rant off

That and the not playing because of Marcus thing is retarded. Even if you think you can’t beat him why not make damn sure to at least try for second, if nothing else it’s tourney practice for people.
I hardly play anything at the moment and I would have entered…because you don’t learn anything just sitting on the sidelines.
that is because most of the scene is new, and most people are still feeling out the scene, and if they are already familiar with it don’t have pre-SF4 fighting game experience or much traveling tournament experience. i was actually just talking to a friend about how chicago has one of the strongest public transportation systems in the country, but no central hub for people to meet that utilizes it, all of the meetups are not technically in chicago.
norcal you pretty much have to have a car to go around.
socal, mostly, but my understanding is the metro system is pretty good, but at least when i stayed with cousins out in pasadena, you need a car to get to places.
nyc, good metro system, no need for a car, all means of playing are in the city.
*side point: contemplate about the infrastructure of Tokyo hm …
chicago, don’t need a car if you are in the city, but DO need a car to get out to places outside of the city. also the traffic is like a giant moat around the area.
i am only talking about the general trend for why this results in people not making it out to a lot of events. also people have other responsibilities to spend their time on outside of driving, which pushes less people to really make it out that way. i mean, motivation? that is grown over time through hardwork and results. people aren’t silly enough to put full commitment into something without knowing what they are getting themselves into, and the newer generation is trying to feel things out.
if people want to see numbers and more activity, do events in some places that are actually in chicago (schaumburg doesnt count). accessibility breeds activity.
I think if the ignite venue starts popping (even though I’m lame and can’t make it out tonight), it will be a great start for the city. We’ve needed a solid venue for a while after Screenz and FIO died out, and thanks to some hard work we have it.
I should be able to stop by ignite tonight, but I need to eat dinner at home for once lol. So I should be able to stop by later.
i thought the FIO setup was great, granted there were some kinks that needed to be ironed out, and screenz had potential (though from what i heard, the owners didnt know how to run things and well, that lead to bankruptcy).
So when does the GGA weekly thing start. I love GGA!
Nives is right about our new players and transportation which is why I have been preaching about a central HUB but I am pretty much burnt out on preaching. ill leave it all up to you guys now :), Which is probably a good idea as i dont have as much time anymore or funds currently. GGA is the best location hands down IMO, the more we go there the more they will start to run things how we like. Ignite could be a good spot but I sort of think 11 PM is a tad early to cut things off, but at least its something and that is a good start to have things go in the right direction. City players definitely need more places to play!!!
I wanted to go to GW but I dont have money to play on equipment that feels borked to me. I hit the buttons too hard and it causes lots of unwanted inputs, ill go back after they change the buttons. Those have been there for a long time havent they?
The GGA WED NIGHT FIGHTS START THIS WEDNESDAY!! I will send him a text so he is prepared, but others should really call and give him feed back on Wed Night Fights at GGA!! Remember its $5 to play in THE GAME ROOM ONLY for UNLIMITED TIME!!!

for one of the best transportation systems in the country, it happens to be the most under utilized in any scene.
