Your Skrull’s not too bad from what I can tell. You know the basics and have a good feel with the character. But I’ve noticed you’re a bit too defensive in your playstyle. You tend to back off sometimes when rushing down would have benefited you. Also I’m not too sure about the team you’re using. I happen to like Skrull and Task together but I don’t know if Dante fits in the team at all. I think you could benefit from Haggar, as I feel he is really good for Skrull and your playstyle. Haggar assist would give you an easy time getting combos (j.:d::h: otg to dash :s:to whatever). It would also keep you safe when you go for the command throws.
As for character specific tips, I think you should go for instant overheads. Skrull and Task both have some really good ones that lead into damaging combos. For Skrull it’s:l::h::s:, as for task you can do :h::s: or just :h::s:, with a slight delay. Or if you’re not sure about keeping task I can give you some more characters that I think would go pretty well with Skrull. I hope this helps. I happen to like Skrull/Dorm/Haggar and Spencer/Skrull/Haggar (with some task,doom, and wesker as replacements sometimes)
Thanks alot. I’m trying to be more aggressive with Skrull but I’m honestly scared of using his normals against many characters. I’m definitely going to try using Haggar and another team without Haggar. I like his assist but I hate using him. I really like Doom with Skrull but my Doom sucks so I usually go with Task instead.
It might not give you the hard knock down, but you can still combo off it. It still causes a soft knockdown. Even then, I dont think the assist is that bad in UMvC3. I was using it along with my skrull and was doing quite well still (it’s not like we need to rely on the hard knockdown, it does so much more than just that). One of Skrull’s assist on the other hand got nerfed pretty bad. Orbital grudge assist does not cause soft knockdown anymore. It pops them up exactly like akuma’s tatsu.
@DocCeaser
Try this team: Skrull/Doom/Haggar. The assists can vary for doom and Skrull as they all have some different uses. What’s really good about this team is that you can get some good confirms from Haggar assist. It also has a really damaging DHC, Inferno to Sphere flame is really good. You can also DHC trick with haggar to doom/skrull if you wanted to.
@DocCeaser
While that team sounds really good, I’d prefer using Skrull / Haggar (Lariat) / Doom (Hidden Missiles)
This setup provides you with an answer to every situation: Lariat as the defensive get-off-me assist and Hidden Missiles as a cover for your unsafe offensive. Command grabbing an opponent that is about to block the incoming missiles is a really nice option. Haggar benefits a lot from missiles as well and IMHO Doom is a better anchor than Haggar
I was going try that order too because I also think Doom is a better anchor than Haggar. I was planning on using molecular shield instead of missiles. I’ll probably use whichever one gives me safer meteor smashes but I do realize how great hidden missiles are for this team.
False. It will not have a knock-down state, just like Akuma’s tatsu wont. They flip out now if they’re not hit in time. Still a good GTFO me assist since it’s invincible. But I’m hardly concerned with a GTFO assist playing as skrull. Either way, it can still be utilized to set up grabs since people shit their pants when they see Haggar, and just crouch…wait… cr.M/cr.H him to try and pick him up. So while they’re crouching and being pussies, just throw them for a free combo.
Ah I might have gotten confused, didnt use Haggar assist much defensive purposes. If that’s the case, than it would give skrull command throw resets. Do a bnb and call Haggar assist at the end of the combo, they flip out and it gives you free :h: command throw.
I don’t know if you skrull players posted this here or not, but it bothers me when things that end up on the front page never get placed in the character forum.
Not that I’m the best Skrull out there but my advice would be to use less empty meteor smashes in general. They’re great on reaction to fireballs and when you know it’s ambiguous, but when you were using it to run away you were getting consistently punished. I like your used of charged j.S, too bad it didn’t catch them. Also you used tenderizer to OTG toward the end, I’m sure you know this but that does scale your inferno quite a bit, also when you don’t let the last punch hit they usually drop out before the hyper connects. Probably nerves, it’s happened to me a lot lately, but in general I liked your play. You were against the infamous evo winning team
Oh and I almost forgot to mention, your use of Orbital Grudge with Taskmaster was NICE!
yes, really nice use of assists and I especially liked that reset after ES. Don’t know if it was intended (I presume yes) but MS’ing into the same place is a really viable strat against Phoenix, so good job on that. What I don’t like - but that is personal preference - is your use of X-Factor. I don’t think it’s necessary to save one out of three chars against regular Phoenix, especially when her combo wouldn’t kill you. Just keep your X for Task or Skrull as anchor for that random instant kill hyper. But other than that: very solid play against one of the best teams out there!
Another thing that has been mentioned around here is not just going x-factor outside of a combo. Save it to cancel one of Skrull’s whiffs. For example Meteor smash>XFC>elastic slam or elastic slam M>XFC>elastic slam H. That’s really what makes Skrull a great anchor IMO. Not just his damage to inferno, but making his 50/50 safe for at least one guess. Then you may proceed with nasty inferno chipping
Thanks for the info guys aha, I play detrimantix often enough that he knows the way I play, so i guess i get nervous and try to trick him into making a mistake. He’s pretty hard to throw off his game plan. Also he tends not to make the mistake of letting me get in close enough to command grab his Phoenix and slam her, let her become D.Phoenix and grab her ass again haha.
I appreciate the tips. Give me something to think on. Oh and if you notice he did not throw projectiles in the air, it was because anytime he did, I’d OB
I definitely got the impression you guys played each other before. Most people don’t block against DP for as long as you did, seems like you’re respectful of each other’s gameplan. Obviously you were more on top of that in your first game (with the awesome Task combo and Skrull XFC) and things sort of got more difficult to stay on plan as it went on.
can you post a link for your skrull? sorry, i can only view from work and adobe flash is all locked down here I like the elastic slam M cancelled into elastic slam H via X-factor…can’t believe doing that never occured to me!!!
