Check out my Quad and Penta mod pads with legacy

Hello everyone

I have been modding arcade fight sticks for some time now, mainly Hori arcade sticks and VLXs (ME SO HORI). Anyways, I use to be a pad player forever ago and only decided to start playing on arcade sticks shortly after UMVC came out. I later came to the conclusion that I couldn’t execute moves consistently on pad. After 2 weeks of getting bodied online using a arcade stick, I finally got use to it and never turned back. In fact it was exactly what pointed me in the direction to start modding my own arcade sticks to this day. Fast forward to the present, with the skills I acquired I’ve decided to try my hand at modding pads that I use to use. So far I have created 4 pads from quad mod with legacy support to even penta mod. I will include some pictures of what I have created so far and hopefully this will spark some ideas for people that what to create something similar. The idea was to take a cable (DVI or HDMI) and solder each wire to all of the signals on a pad. Take all of the signals and connect them to additional PCBs. I’ve created 2 Hori Fighting Commander 4 pads, 1 Hori Fighting Commander PS4 (BlazBlue), 1 Sony PlayStation Dual shock and I’m finishing up an Xbox 360 controller at the moment. So far this is what I have come up with.

Curious why HDMI?

Interesting at the very least.

HDMI has 19 wires. 20 really if you include shielding. That covers ground, up, down, left, right, select, start, home, all 8 face buttons, 5v, D+, D- and GND (20 with 1 to spire. You don’t really need 2 grounds)

Gotcha. Well interesting indeed.

Best thing is it’s permanent plug and play, no Brooks so no updates needed

Exactly. Everything with the exception of the MC Cthulhu is a licensed PCB so it should last the test of time. The only thing I will consider upgrading from this design is to try to find a slim HDMI female cable to wire inside of the controller. This way the HDMI female port will be outside of the controller so that you can introduce a replacement HDMI cable to connect to the box in the event the cable is damaged.

Penta mod Hori Pokken Pad with legacy support added.
