Officially think Blanka is +.5 vs. the cast at large. Welcome to middle tier!
Just played some matches with some friends to test out short short ultra setups.
3 shorts dont really work against dudley, third one always seems to whiff.
Combo is really easy to get on rose and sagat. I can see using ultra 1 on rose, but against sagat I prefer ultra 2. Am I stupid?
Overall, with plinking the combo aint too hard, but I deffinately think it requires a lot of practice.
And talk of japanese players getting it 100% is absolutely bullshit. Nobody will get this all the time, though I do think with practice a good player can stop themselves from doing the ultra if they miss a short or something ackward happens.
U1 is solid on Rose. It’s sort of the Chun situation, her fireball is super slow so the mobility of slide helps out. Vs. Sagat you have to be so patient and you have lots of chances to build revenge meter. I like U2 on both though.
Also go to the last column on sheet 1 there I have it listed who short short short ultra is reliable against
yer the man!
Also, tested standing jab into elec.
Even fp elec, if you are in their face, it is undoubtably a block string. However, if you are a little bit away, sometimes the elec is blocked with a slight delay, it still will be blocked, but it takes like a slight moment longer. (at least against sagat). Those situations are when the electricity can be uppercutted. But frankly, i dont think its a reliable thing to fear, unless you know your opponent just likes to mash uppercut like a scrub, and even then it might not work.
Speaking of slow fireballs; Just in case everybody has not seen this yet… It doesn’t show recovery but it’s interesting anyway:
neutral jump HK, s.MP c.HK s.HP c.HP c.MP s.LP. are all able to beast him.
Simple thing to practice in training mode. Have abel recorded to do his best normals which are step kick, s.LK, s.MP. Then just use your normals and see what beats them out. You’ll find the set that works for you.
Dash elec technique; what’s the best way and type? I can slide and sorta piano/buffer.
:edit: Found dash slide quite easy, hehe.
You could try hp lp hp lp hp for jab into hp elec if your fast, or end with lp if your worried your too slow. I usually do dash cr lk > st lp > hp elec.
Yeah I was just doing dash in the corner into raw meaty hp elec by slide. I can do dash cr.lk xx hp.elec by slide too, just wanted to try chip annoyance.
Felt good, I had a Bison trapped in the corner for a few games before he rq’d. He wasn’t that good but it was fun anyway.
Push to corner with st.lp xxhp.elec, then dash elec chip, st.lp xx hp.elec etc… he was stuck there for ages. Dic.
Horrible day playing ranked, lost more than I have in months, was gonna go play offline today, but I don’t even want to now.
Reactions/execution are just shit for whatever reason.
Some days are just like that for me. Sometimes I play through it and get in the zone. Other times I just quit and go work out or something.
@V: Saw you murder a cody last night, weren’t looking too shabby. He was no match, but it was a decent raping anyways.
Re: Bad day; get yursel sum hookers n chit. Kik it waaay back.
lost 500 more pp, don’t know whats wrong with me, I don’t even feel like it’s me playing.
Gonna take a break, something is up with me, can’t even play footsies now.
1200 down on the day.
had this last week! lost like 8 matches in a row…
sometimes u just have a bad day
Yeah I usually play til I lose 3 or get bored of winning. I’m always having off days tho. Either I’m too predictable, not doing enough on wakeups, or just sucking at footsies or punishes. Sometimes it’s lag, other times I’m just sluggish.
Blanka requires a lot of concentration. More so then a lot of characters. While his execution isn’t difficult you REALLY have to be on your game. You can tell who a lot of our stronger blanka players are (that play online) because they are able to consistently stay higher PP. You/Me/Oct/Mullah (when he played) are ones that come to mind. Josh i think plays mostly offline but his tournament results speak for themselves.
To me retaining a high ranking online/offline just requires so much discipline with your character. Not easy to do at all =||||
Yeah my mental game was definitely not there, I was flowcharting very hard and not relying on reads/reactions. That worked when I double perfected a rufus who didn’t know how to fight the unblockable, but it doesn’t work when I’m fighting a crapload of Adons. Seriously fought 3 different Adons over 3500 PP and another at 3k, really weird.
Yeah I agree, I normally am disciplined, I should have just taken the day off. Patience is key with Blanka and I was sorely lacking in it.
I need to get to another tournament, but have been busy on tourney days. I need to stop choking in grand finals too. Of the last 3 or 4 I’ve been in, I’ve been on winner’s side every time and lost. Bleh.
Yeah i attend smaller tournaments every other week and then big ones once a month. Really helps.
Yeah no tournament for 2 months, ranbats are biweekly and I had to miss the last two, then this next weekend i’ll probably be on date during them.
So how do you guys approach techable knockdowns most of the time?
I tend not to tech most knockdowns, I’d say like 60% not teching vs 40% teching. So I was wondering if there are some matchups or some applications that you think is much better to do one or the other. For example, vs dictator’s that always meaty psycho crusher after scissors I prefer not to tech the knockdown. It also messes up players that play on “auto-mode”. Any thoughts?
It’s clear that one has to avoid getting predictable with this, and that there are obvious scenarios where you must tech the knockdown (i.e. to punish something) but like I said it may be useful to switch from one or the other against specific matchups or playstyles.
