Ves, how does he have more bad matchuPs? Most of his bad matchups were at least lightly made easier. Honda is better due to honda nerfs, same with abel. Not saying they are gigantically better or anything, bc i feel most matches are still fundamentally the same, but to say worse than super i think is perhaps more due to the meta game and people being more familiar with blanka than any major change in the game itself.

The only match i think fundametally got worse is ken.
Cammy may have gotten worse too, but i dont have too much experience with the new cammy. But if she is more reliant on a poking game than imo i think that helps blanka.
Dj’s overall play style is fundamentally the same, and i dont think his buffs helped him against blanka in any meaningful way.
The removal of unblockabl against dudley is annoying, but i dont see that match as fundamentally changed from super, bc frankly if blanka is only winning that match bc of a very specific corner crossup, i think something is being missed. The match aint that bad, likely even amd better for whoever knows match better.

Well, just my two cents, i find blanka to be fun, and pretty strong. Finally figured out the twins match, less reliance on elec and more upball as soon as i see him leave the ground, free dmg.

Oh, hop ultra is crap when tossed out randomly bc the game drops inputs at the start of the ultra animation, and everyone learned to block low. I cant tell peeps how many times i have heard people jam on the buttons when i hop ultra and they can still block. The wierd tweaks like dropped inputs and invincible backdashes make sf4 pretty gay for a sf.

Timing for hop ultra is the same, at least with super. At the beginning of super i felt the hop ultra timing was a little tighter from vanilla, but super and ae feel the same.

Cammy is still tough because her footsies are pretty much as good as yours but do more damage. She’s just as BS if she gets inside and has meter. You also can’t gamble and attempt to hop through a tick throw to get out of the corner now, you’re stuck.

I don’t think Blanka loses to Deejay now, but it’s a closer match. His normals are better, his damage is better, and his fireball is better. He’s also harder to jump at. He still has to rely on spacing sobats though which gives you lots of opportunities.

I think Fei is tougher, or at least in the style that I played. I used MP Safeball to bait rekkas and punish.

Makoto is a beast now, this matchup went from solid 6-4 to bad IMO. The Makoto I normally play with went from getting destroyed by me to doing quite well.

Dudley match is harder, not just because of the loss of the unblockable being easy to set up, but because he’s harder to get away from. Also one thing I’ve been noticing is that trading air to air with him sucks like crazy now because of the knockdown from j.hk letting him set some things up.

Ken blows now.

Hakan is tougher. He’s able to more consistently keep oil stacked and Oiled Hakan > Blanka still probably even.

Hop nerf hurts the fuerte matchup IMO.

I think Seth is tougher now, because his big nerf was pretty much not relevant vs. Blanka. He’s harder to stun now, his fireballs are a bit better, and he does more damage. He still stuns blanka pretty easily too.

Bison corner lockdown with changed scissor kick is way worse now. You can’t just stick out st.jab as a catch all solution. You actually have to guess.

I just think the number of matches that improved vs. the number of ones that got worse is kinda not balanced. the only matches I think improved are Honda, Guile, Sim, Rufus.

I’ve been called a “turbo scrub” twice in the last two days. Mashing kkk+lp (x5) seems to piss people off. Either that or else kkk+lp(x4), lp+mk to get cr.mk xx elec, or kkk+lp(x4), lp+lk to get meaty cr.lk xx elec. Always fun to retaliate with “Check the fookin replay twat”. I piano elec combos though. My buttons are fooked on my current stick (I gave it an overhead elbow combo last month). I’m getting a TE stick this week so hopefully I will be able to do lp xx hp.elec easier? This was my ‘teething’ stick.

I’ve noticed a lot of high-end Blankas on Replays use the mash-tech version of meaty cr.lk xx lp.elec though, should I feel so much shame?

for me… anybody who can punish ball easily + is a good rush down character = generally gives Blanka a hard time.

but this is probably a more personal thing than anything…

Cammy is nearly made for beating Blanka… she’s still nearly just as tough without her OP divekicks.

my current goal is to maximize damage. Blanka’s damage output is pretty low for the most part, and players tend to not do ideal damage when they get an opportunity. I just charted the combos I like to use for the most part with the help of another player, and what their results are vs. the cast. It still needs some double checking and there are a few combos I want to add, I also need to do crouch/stand differences. For the most part it is good to go though.

The combos I want to add are:
** j.hk, st.mp, cr.mk xx hp ball xx super**
crossup j.mk, cr.mk, st.lp xx hp electricity
crossup hop, cr.mk, st.lp xx hp electricity
and probably another st.hk combo because good ones output a lot of stun. any other suggestions are welcome though.

combo types are somewhat sorted, where the most damaging option is listed first.

I was thinking about doing this same thing. Some combos work or not depending on if the opponent is crouching or not. I was thinking about doing a list like that, but you beat me too it.

for the most part pretty much every character is easier to combo when they are crouching. There are very few exceptions, but Guile is probably the biggest one because pretty much anything you can think of that works on standing characters works on him, and he even has quirky in combo meaty stuff, but the second he’s crouching his hurtbox shrinks.

Ves:
was trying out the ‘pre-buffered’ electricity… problem with this is… it’s not like you can wait too long… i can’t exactly input 4 ‘punches’ and wait and see and press the 5th one and expect it to come out… if they decided to do somethign a tad slower… i miss my chance to do electricity and end up ‘punching’ instead…

how do you exactly use this against the twins? a bit confused now…

I’ll try to get a video of it at some point. I’m basically buffering electricity the entire match off of every whiffed/hit/blocked poke, then waiting for my opponent to get hasty and try to do a dive while I don’t have down charge. Next time I do it in a match I’ll save the vid and upload it.

also the trick I do is that I input 5 or even 6 punches(whiff st. mp, lmhml at end of recovery frames) and then my window to input LP or EX electricity is maximized.

I like whiffing jabs to bait divekicks then just doing elec.

Yea sure… i gotta see a video of this… i mean i can delay the electricity A BIT… with the buffer method you mention… but i gotta see it in action so I know clearly what you’re saying.

thanks for the update though

I like how what combos work on who with Blanka is completely nonsensical.

A good example is Juri. Pretty much all of the jumpin elec combos whiff vs. her… except when you crossup and do cr.mk, st.lp xx hp elec. I know it has something to do with her turnaround animation, but seriously? Look at the chart and try to plot out some sort of logic, character body types don’t seem to matter either.

My style has been changing a bit more turtle-like. I’ve been playing a lot more at full screen and baiting with electricity while mixing in random neutral jumps, slides, fa’s, lp rolls into pokes or jumps and its getting me wins and rank. It’s kind of a hit and run style. Stay back then mess with them then occasionally get in their face and apply pressure. Using mp roll for chip damage on characters I can just to piss them off and make them do stupid things like jump in. I’m also focusing a lot more on keeping my spacing just right.

won my ranbat, so i’m first in season standings by a good amount.

I played against 4 characters I could unblockable. Gouken, Guile, Rog, Guy. When the dude switched to Guile after I beat his other character I was pretty happy.

Makoto is so freaking hard now, I have trouble with her so much now. I tried Sakura and Sagat, and i had more success… but I ended up losing in tournament anyways.

Makota is better but I don’t think I’ve lost to one since AE. Keep away method works on her.

How many good Makotos do you play? My ranked match win rate in super vs. Makoto with Blanka was 100%, and I did fairly well offline and such. Now I’m just getting crushed sometimes.

It’s kind of hard to judge things when you don’t factor in the skill of players.

I can’t say their skill level. I just know they are some of them are top psn Makotos. So prob not any big tournament Makotos or anything, but as long as I can keep her away I’m ok. Her mixup between sweep, throw, overhead at close range is tough. I try to avoid that at all costs.

Well objectively how good do you think you are?

I think my Blanka is very very strong, so I get surprised when someone I don’t think is up to my skill level beats me. That did not happen with Super makoto ever.

Wish I could answer that. I just play online mostly. I’m not sure how I would do on XBox Live or in a tournament. There is a tournament near here at the end of the month I may attend to get a better idea. Basically when I’m in the zone I feel I can’t lose, but I’m sure a lot of us are like that. I can also miss a move or guess wrong and eat a big combo and lose to a scrub every great once in awhile, but I feel my game has taken a step up after focusing on Blanka and forgetting my alternates.

I’ll see if I can get a replay with a top level Makota. Got one of beating the #1 Fei Long on PSN. Not sure how I can upload, but if someone here is on PSN they can follow me and get replays.

Woah I just realized your name is JOLT head…I been thinking it was JOL Thead for months, just thought I would share that moment of enlightenment LOL
