after my opponent blocks electricity I have to think about what their character is likely to hit. Say guile blocked it standing, he can’t fk me so I don’t have to worry about reversal and his only logical things to really hit are throw, jab, and low forward trying to get under my jab.
My favorite options are walk forward kara throw, sweep, another rep of jab xx elec, and ST.HP DA GAWD. Sometimes I will throw in a far mp or a cr.mk to give my opponent a different look if they’ve tried to do specific stuff at those times. Walk forward and just doing non canceled jabs can be annoying too.
well with 1f added to a kara throw the tech window moves 1f later, but overall the total time is the same.
If you blow up cr.techs you get free damage/knockdowns thats really all there is too it. Why let them tech when you can do 150+ damage? Even if you just st.hp someones tech attempt and counterhit them it hurts and leaves you even enough to keep hitting buttons with Blanka’s good hitboxes.
Depends on matchup/positioning. Generally I want to keep close to my opponent. Getting a free meaty cr.lk/lp/mk, meaty st.jab, or a kara throw attempt never hurts. However say my opponent is in the corner there is more I can do than just kara hop because of my positioning, a jumpin that will beat their reversal and tricky crossups with whiff ball, or even overhead chances open up. You can also setup chip situations with u2 or crossup ball that leave the opponent with no options and are a solid way to close rounds. Against a character I don’t want to be absolutely point blank against I will sometimes just walk forward, dash, or not kara my hop though.
Read the oki thread man. I have safejumps, overhead setups, etc. You don’t always have to do a setup that beats a 3f dp.
OS slide/sweep and the tech/focus os are pretty much the only os’s I ever do. I do os st.mp vs. rose because it beats ex spiral and backdash, but in general blanka is not a huge OS character.
After blocked elec, it’s all about analyze and anticipate what your opponent does, he likes to back dash a lot? You can hop forward and throw him. He likes to mash dp/invincible move? You can do a poke on the elec’s blockstun, he will keep blocking or you just can block and bait and punish. He likes to just block? You can kara throw him. He likes to tech or hit a quick normal like a jab? You can counter him with a delayed poke to frame trap and have a counter hit here. After a blocked stand jab xx elec HP, you can immediatly frame trap him with a low forward to get a counter hit, therefore link to sweep and a hard knockdown. You can walk to chip with a second chip with stand jab xx elec HP too and finish with a long ranged poke like far standing fierce or crouching fierce for example.
Basically, blowing up crouch teching with normals is essential for pressure for Blanka : counter hits for hard knockdown, easy link to U1. Elec pressure is not something scary but it has its uses to begin a pressure with safe chip and some mix-ups. Delayed normals are very important too, for example : after a blocked forward jump rh, a delayed close standing strong gives a counter hit on a crouch tech, therefore a link to sweep, hard knockdown etc… it’s very basic and minimalist, but important.
My oki on forward throw is basicly the overhead or the lp ball setup vs srk!
Nobody blocks the overhead! But if they do or dp i fake it the next time and throw them/punish them.
Overhead is blanka’s best move IMO

Lol this character is dumb, the amount of dumb things I do online/tournament and get hate for is hilarious. I should main this character just for salt. I beat one guy with Blanka and he told me to fuck off and never talk to him again lol.
Once, back in Vanilla days, I was about to fight against a random Guile player online and before the match started he disconnected and sent me a message saying he “was not gonna watch me hold downback the whole match”.
A Guile player told me that, before the match even starts and we haven’t played together before.
I was playing on PSN with a friend, and a friend of him come in on the textual chat, he saw i play Blanka and he just quit the chat and the room lol, refuses to play against me, don’t even know who was his character… also play Blanka is an easy way to have a bad rep on Xbox Live.
Apparently my cross ups and fakes with hops is cheap lol. “Nobody should be able to do that shit and then combo afterwards”. He’s crying like the hop has invincibility and does damage.
I stopped playing Blanka for a long time because of the online rage. Switched to Viper and Ryu (who has always been an alt) just to prove that it was the player beating them not the character. Then I started hearing complaints that Viper is broken (best I heard was that cr.mp xx TK repeat is unblockable lol) and that Ryu is a scrub. I actually decided now to learn how to play Sagat. Wonder what they are gonna bitch about this time…
I have a friend who bitches about Sagat, I’m sure he’ll be glad to complain to you. Viper is lame, but not broken. I was starting to learn her but stopped. Too many online Ryus makes me not want to play him.
Well, for what is worth, Viper is indeed broken and Ryu is for scrubs…
Seriously, Viper clearly doesn’t belong in the game and is VERY annoying to me to fight against Ryus online, because he represents 60% of the characters I face on Ranked Match.
It got to the point where I actively avoid Ryu players online.
Lol she is broken, I used to beat so many people with Viper and mine sucks, I kept dropping FFF so much. I just dropped her because I find it hard to transition between her and Bison (my main). I avoid Ryu players too, and since I’ve given up on ranked, I think I’ve cut that down by about 60%. While messing around with a few characters, I’ve noticed 90% of the online Ryu players cannot deal with Yang lol. You just need to know Yang’s basics and the game is yours.
Works in tournament too. I was playing horribly, switched to Blanka, won 4 or 5 sets, switched back to my main, lost lol. All you have to do is piss someone off and it’s GGs. It was like Day 1 Blanka lol, I spent a casual session playing him 3 days before.
From my experience, the only characters you will get consistent props for playing well with are Hakan and Dan. If lame comments is what you’re trying to avoid, then those guys are the way to go. No character will stop lame comments though. For whatever reason, I tend to get the most negs from grinders - high BP, low PP guys. Especially Hondas who don’t know how to play any offense - they just want me to jump into ex headbutts…
