Since I started with SF2, I’ve always viewed Blanka as a bad character.
He is almost useless in SF2 because of the stupid damage he gets when hit during rolling attack. Wich is inexplicable, since only the 4 “bosses” have a weak spot on 1 of their special attack (Boxer is turnaround punch, Claw is wall dive with claw attack, Sagat is Tiger Uppercut and Dictator is Psycho Crusher)
He’s still useless in CE, but at least the extra damage was removed
He got better on HF with his upball, especially considering it was the only version where it hits both going up and down (but not the 2 at the same time)
On SUPER his upball was nerfed (only hitting on the way up) and he got the rainbow roll, wich is a move I don’t quite understand why it was created in the first place. To avoid fireballs, maybe? But with such a bad and slow ark?
ST was the first version where he’s decent, but very hard to be played at a good level. He was rewarded with a lot of good new moves like slide and hop and an average SUPER (but close to safe on block). And since ST first introduced throw tech (or softening), and Blanka only has a mashable grab (wich can’t be teched), he ended on the best side of the throw scale.
Alpha 3 is a terrible game, so I don’t know much about Blanka on it.
It seems i’m the only one here to enjoy 3rd Strike.
For me, parries are pretty good to open hard match-ups, mind games are awesome in this game and footsies are violent, much violent than in any street fighter but that’s just my opinion.
hate to break it to you but there really isnt an ambiguous crossup ultra anymore. They changed the distance ultra goes, so its now pretty much always crossup after a forward throw. And if its not, its really fricken obvious.
Same spacing can have absolutely different results depending on timing or the character. It’s harder but doable still.
If you do a super ambiguous ultra though the likely result is that it is blockable both ways, which makes me think unblockable ultra is still possible. I just need to find a setup.

Any of you guys see that SF VOLT combo video on the front page? Too bad the green beast doesn’t have combos like that in the real game. Imagine if Blanka could cr. LK/OS Throw tech into guaranteed combo via more frame friendly cr. lk’s. (a la Dictator). I still cringe when I will do 3 cr. lk into a super combo, and of course I miss a link and the super gets blocked. 3 frame startup for cr. lk would be so nice, but I can’t really complain because Blanka is probably at his best, relative to the rest, in his current version.
Had a tournament last night. Unfortunatley we didnt get to record it. Also, due to lack of time, we only had a winners finals and didnt get a grand finals (new venue, new hosts, another one is in 2 weeks and will work out a bit better).
Regardless, it was blanka(me) vs. Fei in the Grand finals. The Highlight was me hitting ch low mk(after a basic setup) into ultra (thank god for 3ppp button). Allowed me to turn the tide of a key round, and ultimately win the match. Bottom line, I kept it fluid, never got repetitive, excellent spacing, and good reactions. Sorry about no video, it could have been recorded, but the guy with the camera was nowhere to be seen and we kinda had to hurry.
Feels so good to hit ch mk into ultra in a tournament. I know its relatively easy (4 frame link), but relatively easy in tournament situations means to hit it is fucking satisfying.
I watched some videos Hagen… nice matchs, i like your footsies and your patience, but you need to improve your execution, good job. Epacta did an amazing match against Lachome, awesome bait to punish the TU.
