I second this completely! Shinobixtc I give you much respect and props for how pro everything was. What we should do is have event like this twice a year (to keep it special/fresh). But good games to everyone who played and nice job Charleston on the win.
OMFG…
I feel sick to my stomach that I missed this. Especially after watching the AWESOME vids shinobi made. This was the first big tourney I have missed other than a GV and a MB tourney since April. I was lucky enough to be on the 5 on 5 without trying out, and had to give up my spot. And when I stopped by and saw the turnout, it was depressing.
I feel right about the decision, since I only get to see my best friend every few years, and I didn’t want to drag him, his brother, his wife and my wife to a SF tourney all day when he only has a week left in the states. I hope I didn’t let anyone down for the 5v5. I also hate I couldn’t do SF4 singles b/c I feel I would have performed very well. And it would have been documented this time!
This is the only time this will happen, and I guarantee if something this big happens again, I will be there. I again apologize to everyone, I hope I didn’t let anyone down. CONGRATS to Charleston on the victory, and grats to all winners, especially Xavier and Keyon. You guys are BEASTS.
Put another one of these together again SOON, Icege!!!
anytime! just want to people to enjoy/remember the good times… i used to be better equipped, but im older now… and im not doing this for profit so i just work with whats easiest now… mini camcorder and an iphone.
I dunno if I’m going to participate in any SF4 stuff anymore, but if BB is at the PnT tourneys then there is a good chance I’ll play.
Sucks that SF4 doesn’t have a whole lot of staying power with some of the people around here (me included), it was awesome having a game that everyone genuinely enjoyed playing for a good bit. Hopefully Tekken and/or the next iteration of SF4/BB will be something everyone could agree on and not get bored with after a few months.
I think a game’s staying power is tied to the community as a whole. I mean SF4 in the Midlands is the main game here not because it’s the undisputed best fighting game on the market (that’s personal opinion), but I think it’s because we have a lot of players around here who are still excited about it and that excitement spreads. We have new players coming out to play all the time now because they hear about the excitement of the tourneys and want to play what other people are playing.
Me and Josh’s hope was that this event would help fuel excitement for tourneys in both regions involved. Hopefully new players will see the videos and read about what happened, will get excited, and the new players will renew excitement.
Just my opinion.
we here in Midlands are also looking forward to Tekken 6 because it will be another boost to our tourney turnouts.
Yeah, I love what SF4 has done to the community and plan on still playing it to some extent… I just don’t think I enjoy it enough to keep putting money down for it.
I think BB and T6 are gonna be the ones I’ll be investing time and money into. I plan on staying on SF4 outside of tourneys, though. I have fun playing ANY fighting game along as there is decent competition for it, I just don’t want to spread myself too thin when it comes to tourney games and I know I have more fun with BB and I’m assuming I’m going to enjoy T6 a lot (even though I wish it was VF5:R, but whatever).
I’ll still be coming to tourneys to hang out with everyone, hype shit up, and play the games I enjoy. I still love watching SF4, even if it’s not my favorite fighter these days.
Justin’s stick being ripped off pisses me off. Between all of us in this thread, we know everyone that was at the tourney. Ask some fucking questions and find his stick. This shit can’t happen in Chucktown. We can’t let it.
Chris T
sorry i missed the tourney josh, got stuck on the golf course pretending i know how to play golf
maybe you guys should say something like “if you accidentally took it or picked it up, PM icege and let him know and he’ll schedule to get it picked up or returned and you will remain anonymous” instead of being all rawr-y and wanting to kill people
sorry it happened tho
Didn’t mean to sound violent…it just dissappoints me that such a small community still has problems with five finger discounts. I just wanna see it make it back to Justin.
To be truthful, though, it could have been a customer. I saw kids in there. I don’t know all of the Columbia peeps that came really well but I know most of them well and I can’t imagine any of the ones that I know doing such a thing.
I’m willing to donate to get Justin a replacement stick. I know he said he modded it and would have to re-mod it but it’s something…
Josh: I haven’t improved too much. I still don’t have anyone to play against since Kevin left. And most people I try to play have different TVs than mine which bothers me since I gotta adjust setups, wake-ups, and even reversals. Not to mention that sometimes I wonder “was that the TV, or did I just mess up the timing?” Which is why I don’t like playing on different TVs.
Thumbs up to Chris T. for buying the Evo ASUS monitor, though !
And the fact that I’m playing a better character also helps. I’d still say I play better with Balrog.
PS: I can donate some money for a new stick for Justin as well.
Good stuff to everyone at the tourny.
Mike: Good job placing top 8 and an awesome job on the interviews/vids. I have your chair you left at the tournament in my car.
I’ve got an EX2 Hori which is what Justin modded. Already talked to John H and he’s going to help put it together. However, if any of you guys wouldn’t mind donating at least a button or something to help out, I’d appreciate it. Justin I think we can all agree is one of the nicest dudes out there right now and to be honest, I think the reason that Charleston and Columbia’s scenes thrived during SF4’s release was because of his constant traveling and support. The very least we can do is replace what was stolen.
Oh! Something I forgot for Mike O. The videos + commentary is reaaaally good man. Even the music. It’s at this perfect volume level where I can tune out the comments or the game/crowd noise without any difficulty, or I can kind of listen to them both all at once. There’s also a few moments during the videos where the music syncs up with the match, which is really funny. Like, during Justin vs. Xavier, Justin whiffs an LP DP and then does it again and connects, and there is a break in the song at that moment. Rob and I were wondering if you synced it like that on purpose, too good. Thanks for giving me props for Abel during the interviews even though most people were like, “Meh… he was so-so” T_T I’ll get better, promise!
Luis: To be honest with no disrespect intended, I wasn’t really sure what to expect. I understand lag affecting you, as my play style requires exact timing as well. Where abouts are you? Ironically, now that school is in session, I’ll probably be able to play more (without shirking responsibilities of course) since I’ve got a structured schedule again.
ATTENTION: IF YOU HAVE A PS3, BUY FAT PRINCESS NAO
Just let me know what to buy and send me a PM for the shipping address and I’ll order it and have it sent to that address.
I agree Justin is awesome and is a big deal for the scene in the whole state, so I want to see this injustice fixed. Josh, if you can send me a link to what we need to rebuild the stick and let me know how many of each we still need I’ll buy some of the components ASAP.
Also: Did they do something about the “stalemate” problem in Fat Princess? That’s the only thing keeping me from buying it right now. I don’t like how I’ve heard most matches turn into long stalemates until time runs out because there isn’t a “tipping point” condition to the gameplay which turns the tide in one side’s favor.
You guys know you don’t have to do all this for me, but I really do appreciate it.
Josh: I know you guys are insistent, but instead of giving up your EX2, I can give John H my Tekken 5 Hori to fix up. From personal experience, EX2s are kind of a bitch to mod. T5s at least give you more room. We could just dual mod the T5, throw in some Sanwas and call it a day. I figure that way, I could use that as my tourney stick, and not make the mistake of leaving one unattended.
In other (better) news, I got a phone call today from a local comic store owner. He wants me to run all the video game tournaments at Xcon World on Oct 3rd/4th. (It’s a comic/role playing/anime convention in Myrtle Beach)
Saturday I’ll be running SF4, MvC2, and Blazblue. Sunday I’ll be running Halo, MKvsDC, and Melee. (lol!)
All tournaments will be $5 to enter. Double Elim and random seeding. Prizes will be a pot split.
More info about the convention itself is at http://www.xconworld.com
The convention itself is $15 for a day pass. I was told that last year 350-400 people attended the convention, so hopefully there will be a good turnout for the gaming events.
I’ll see if I can get off that. Might not, but who knows.
I don’t mind giving up the Hori, just let me know what you’d rather do. At least let us supply the parts and milk John for all the labor we can =P
Rodney: I don’t know to tell you the truth. There was a patch recently that I had to download in order to play, and according to websites, it was to address:
*Failed Game Connections
*Lag
*Hosting Problems
*AoE Scoring Exploits
*Stalemates
*Missing Princess (on certain levels)
*Dead Hat Machines
*Scoreboard Issues (only top 1000 scores shown)
*Ranking System Problems
I also know that rounds are 45min, with the timer appearing at the 5min mark and counting down.
Josh: Fine, lol. I’ll bring down the T5 when I come down there next. Also, let me know when you’re going to play Fat Princess again.
Oh, have any of you guys played Melty Blood Actress Again? I got it yesterday, and it’s really fun. I know there has never been a lot of interest in SC for Melty, but it’s worth checking out.
I have yet to see a Fat Princess game go to stalemate so I don’t think it is an issue. But it is pure chaotic fun fo sho.
Fat Princess is one of the reasons I’m getting a PS3 soon :3
edit: jesus the PSP port of tekken 6 looks insane
Josh… yeah i tried a little bit harder with sound this time… i had random internet people that loved the music but i remembered you saying you could do without. so this time i only lowered original for the interview/podcast because it was drowning out the vocals. but for the rest… i left the original audio in place and just backfilled with music so the audience and button taps are all still in there. as for syncing… i did try to match the type of song with the pace of the gameplay for some players… but all those beatdrops were purely coincidental!! i guess since the pace of the music was chosen for the pace of the gameplay, it was bound to happen… but i didnt plan it out that deeply, just got lucky. im glad everyone enjoyed it… it was fun and i wanted to get it out there as quick as possible… so the LACK of any deep editing shows just how HYPE the whole day was all on its own!!!
