Hey you know I just realize playing through many fighting games, I noticed that there are characters when they lose, they assume so humiliating, ridiculous, awkward, and/or seemingly impossible poses. Other than the many clothing damage on female characters, I noticed that occasionally several male characters are defeated while awkwardly bent over on all fours with their butt shoved up in the air. This pose is to pay tribute to those characters who are forced into a a physically impossible and awkward defeat pose upon defeat. Here’s are some I noticed: AOF1 Robert, AOF1,2 John, Persona Arena Yosuke, Yamazaki (real bout, snk vs capcom 2, kof14). Post other characters to know suffering the same fate.

yeah i noticed that with snk games. Robert is one of my fav snk character, and I sorta main him since the aof days. I like his playstyle and his arrogant badass attitude. I hate how snk gave him a defeat pose where it looks like he’s ready to take it up the rear

It seems they gave the defeat pose that looks like he is about to take it up the rear to characters who are over confident and cocky since Japanese people don’t like cocky people and it’s funny to humiliate a cocky person. The funniest way to do that would be to have his butt raised up in the air waiting for it.

I didn’t realize that for arrogant characters are given that pose. I remember I didn’t like Robert design and character in Art of Fighting as he is introduced as a prideful playboy showing off his fancy sport cars and clothes. I also recall him being a jerk to some of the other characters so I guess being forced to assume a pose that involves him getting on his knees, bending forward, and sticking his butt up is suppose to humble him?

If I recall yosuke from persona 4 arena also has this defeat pose. I think zack in dead or alive 5 as well. They were somewhat cocky i guess. What other characters in other games also has this? I didn’t realize this was a thing.

Hey yeah i just came across these examples. Does this theme/rule/gag apply usually like for these characters: zack (dead or alive 5), yosuke (persona 4 arena), naruto (ultimate ninja storm), garr (breath of fire 3), asbel (tales of graces f), yamazaki (real bout fatal fury). Most of these games are notorious for female sexualization; but they have examples of male examples below. You think these were accidental or on purpose. Not sure if you play any of these games before.
Or it could be for the sake of fan service. Although with the current generation of fighting games, this is not much of a thing (most of the street fighter fan-base are not horny teenagers anymore).

As for those odd-ball defeat poses? That’s obviously a long-running Japanese meme thing. Much like their “Pile-Driving” Ninjas. Practically every Ninja anime or videogame character, has a pile-driver supermove in their arsenal SOMEWHERE (Rock Lee from Naruto, Strider’s throw in the MvC games, Hanzo & Galford from Samurai Shodown, those Ninja characters in SNK’s World Heroes, etc).
