personally when i think about fg stages. I always admire the 2d one but not 3d ones. I think the only 3d one with stages i like were Powerstone, Bloody Roar, and Kof MIRA. well soul calibure 2.
I don’t like the design, but at least there’s no motherfuckers running around like monkeys in the background. I hate that shit. Too much… Way too much.
Also, rainy stages are cool… Except in Yang’s in 3S… I always fuck up my parries on that stage. Idk if it’s because of the game running slightly slower on the stage or if the rain distracts me… but I always fuck them up.
I miss character specific stages…Seems to have went out the window in the PS2 era. I remember SFA3 had close to 30 characters and most of them had their own stages. The days of those levels of presentation seem long gone, though.
That said, some old fashioned presentation could work wonders. MVC1 was like, 30% actual game and 70% visuals, sound, and atmosphere and it’s still rather unforgettable.
Alpha 3 for the DC had more than 30 stages, damn game had close to 50. Don’t forget they had a shit load of non characters specific stages.
Damn, now that I think about it, the stages from back then are all better than they are now. Dem Pocket Fighter stages have me rollin every time I see’im.
T6 rooftop stage has one of the greatest themes for a fighting game stage, ever, I mean actually fighting to it, it gets you pumped. Every fight on that stage is intense.
If making expansive 3d stages is so hard, just make them 2d. Can still keep 3d character models, on top of gorgeous 2d backdrops with perhaps NPC sprites. Character specific stages were awesome, yeah and character themes are awesome too these should be mandatory for every fighting game.
Actually I was referring to stages for AE. Should’ve been more clear.
Difference of opinions I guess. Tekken 4 skyscraper gets me pumped all the time. Piano instrumentals are my weakness, especially when mixed in with a good beat.
Anyone have a favorite SC3 stage? I really liked the clocktower and I thought it suited Zasalamel pretty well. Also Setsuka’s stage and the lost cathedral (even though it was shared).
