use an old school fix…

Well here’s mine.
Ryu Sleeps
As soon as I see that nova, i notice it looks flat. Some value change, foreshortening will help remedy that. Try lowering his knees a bit and have his legs point to the right a bit more as well. Lowering his head and making it more relaxed will make it look mor elike he’s sleeping. Right now with his head upright and looking to the left, eyes straining, it looks more like he’s meditating. Otherwise a good pic. I like the idea of him sleeping on a rock, even though the a3 ryu wasn’t a vegabond yet. :karate:

yeah just a couple doodles of Alpha ryu…oops forgot about the vagabond thing…I guess the first sketch is immediately post alpha 3 or something…lol…the last time i drew Ryu, was probably more than a year ago??? somewhere in the “sketches” thread

Yeah its really wip joint right now but im just throwing my piece in the mix. Im gonna highlight and shade this joint later. As for the changes you suggested i’ll keep those in mind on another day.:tup:
Novastar: Cool idea. DFist had some good suggestions. Please give me your info so I can add you to the participating artist list.
Gunstar: Great dynamic sketches. Very nice feet; feet are hard to get right. It looks like you have a real solid understanding of structure, except for in your faces. They don’t quite look consistent with the quality of the body, IMO. Might be useful to check out some books on how the head is built, and contruct them as carefully as you do your hands and feet. Keep up the good work!
cheers guy- I really appreciate the crit/s- will definately have to work more on that actually to be honest Chain, its something ive overlooked since the beginning- maintaining that consistiency - gettin that vanity Mirror Out and making faces would help lots with heads…maybe for my next sketch Id draw some Heads/ faces- of Dhalsim…

Gunstar: Yeah, keepin a little mirror on your desk to make faces into it is great. I do it all the time. A book I have that I find really good is “The Artist’s Complete Guide to Facial Expression” by Gary Faigin. It goes in depth into the anatomy of the head, and has a great expression quick reference guide in the back. I think I bought it for about $25 on amazon.
Rabid: Lookin good, man. Watercolors are fun. Make sure to keep your lighting consistent. Right now his body is being lit from the left, but his hair, from the right. Give me your info so I can add you to the participating artists list.

I thought I’d draw him with the his Championship pallete, which are my favorite colors for when I play Sim. Rook pointed out that he was more Purple in the game. Good call. I shouldn’t have used the eternal challenge artbook and gameboy Revival as reference. oh well live and learn.
Great idea having a weekly drawing challenge. I haven’t drawn seriously in a good 9 months. Maybe this’ll get me off my butt.
