Wow! Didn’t see that Blanka before Rook, that’s bloody brilliant!
Two things I noticed thoug, although they’re small, and they could have just been stylistic choices on your part:
Most Blanka illustrations I’ve seen, have nails/claws sprouting from his fingers, and not his fingers being sharp themselves. It looks good as is, just not sure why you changed it.
Oh, and while it’s super small, Adon’s arm bands are red and blue, not red and white.
Just thought I’d point out

Hey guys, wanted to chime in quickly and say I’m still around too and will be posting the whole way through. I just recently wrapped up finals and am now back in NY for December. So I’ll be getting back into it soon, dunno if I’m gonna be able to do any color crap while I’m here since my parents don’t have all the fancy gizmos I have in my apt. at college.
Welcome back Rook, glad you’re doing better man we’ve missed your work and crits. Great post also, solid Adon (one of my fave characters) only comment is he’s lookin a little skinny in the waist but I know that’s what you were going for. Guess I like my Adon with a little more of a gut :xeye:
ViciousSlash I think the hands in your Adon look good actually, and overall I think this Adon is one of your strongest pieces by far. BTW I checked out your website, and the couple original non fan art sketches you got on there are hot!
Switcher I like the Blanka a lot, especially how his hair escapes the ink lines, one thing I think is missing is his big patch of orange fuzz on his chest :karate:
Dreaded Fist I’m glad you take your time man your stuff always comes out a little whacky but perfectly sweet in my book, I also think it looks like David Duchovny lol
Star Good work trying something other than what you usually work with, it looks like Adon’s right knee should be coming towards us more so work on varying your line weights so we can tell where the body is foreshortening. Keep it up, I’m a big fan of b&w work.
Secondly I really dig the Blanka/Sak (other than the incidental probing) solid forms and solid coloring, great work.
Landel Nice sketch, small comment. I think her eye’s are almost a little too defined compared to the simplicity of the sketch.
MatthewK Keep up the story posts, it’s fun to have someone really thinking it out. The Honda is solid, I think the ink shading is a little distracting based on how it’s colored. If you want the scritchy ink shading lets see it more throughout the piece so it unifies the piece together more.
Phew, I should get an Adon up in the next couple days. Was he due yesterday or was Blanka due yesterday? lol, I’m way lost… peace guys, keep up the work we’re about halfway through now right?
Hey everyone, I’m back, and the gallery has been updated. Sorry for being MIA for a bit, I was moving, plus there was the holidays. Onward with some critiques!
Matthew K: Great idea, as always. Very ambitous too, having so many people in one pic. I agree with Bandit about the shading. The rest of the pic looks a bit sparse compared to how much shading there is on Honda. One other thing that stands out to me as a little funny is the rope on the ground looks rather big and thick, but it doesn’t seem to be affecting the dolls that are sitting on it at all as such. They still look like they are on flat ground, even though they are on the big rope.
Landel: Nice sketch, dude. She looks a bit older than usual. I think it’s because you drew her lips in. Usually Sakura’s lips aren’t defined like that, so that she looks more like a tomboy, and looks younger too.
VSlash: I like that Adon. Definately got his personality going right. Those hands are actually pretty decent too. I think one thing that you could have added was more detail in the hanging part of his headband like you have in the hair.
Star250: Pretty good for your first try at inking. Looks like you got a few different line weights going on, and that’s definately a good start. What kind of pens are you using? I think the pose that you have him in is lookin just a little stiff. Could use some more twist to his body.
I don’t even know what to say about the Blanka pic, haha. I almost considered not adding it to the gallery, since there’s questionable anal probing happening. Watch your balance on the Sak pose. In order to lean forward like that and not tip over, she should be sticking her butt out more to counterbalance.
Switcher: Great pics. Love that solid area of black shadow you got on your adon pic. Might be intersting to see that carried throughout the pic more. I really like the loose drawing and coloring of the Blanka one too. Very energetic feel. Hehe, like Bandit said, he’s missin a bit of hair compared to normal Blanka.
SFMC: Best of luck at BlueSky. I’m sure you’ll rock their world.
DFist: Haha, yeah, I totally get a David Duchovny more than I get Steven Segal. Very cool painting though. Very nice sense of naturalism. I think he should probably be more asian looking than that ^_~ Hehe, although, the cheezy looking white dude makes him kinda look like he’s from the SF movie, and that’s just sweeeet.
Rook: Sweet stuff, as usual. I think Adon’s torso is getting just a little distorted. A bit squashed around his upper right side, and a bit stretched around his upper left. The Blanka pic is one of my favorites of yours so far. The pose is awesome, and very successfully done. Great idea for a pic too. Facial structure looks especially good here too. Hehe, I think the watermelon could be just a tad bigger, if I had to make any complaint.

Sorry, it was an oversight, and has been fixed. I am most concerned with updating the current characters of the week. With people submitting late entries, I can end up updating anywhere from 3 to 7 galleries every week. Updating all of those galleries on top of typing out comments and critiques for everyone usually takes me longer to do than drawing my own pic for the challenge in the first place. I am bound to miss a few things every so often, because it’s a lot to keep track of, so please try to be understanding and politely let me know if I missed something rather than asking for an explanation for why you were left out.

Adon pic really rocks hard man… you’ve captured his cocky attitude very well. Suggestion would be to make his hands less blockish. Ball up a fist, and see how some fingers protrude more than others? Try capturing that, makes your hands more interesting.

Adon looks good… only nitpick is that he looks a bit too heroic. He’s always come across as cocky and conniving to me

amilcar: welcome to the boards. Sak pic is nice and expression is good. The blur is distracting though. Ryu and Ken look good. Ryu’s handguard has a perspective issue though.
Switcher: RS bg in the Sak pic works well. I was playing A3 yesterday and and realised the pose is from her A3 ending. Nice one
Nice Adon too. Having more shadows in the pic (likw you did in the Blanka pic) would be nicer though.

Photon/4neqs: As mentioned, your facial symmetry is improving. Your non-chibi pics have better proportions too… focus on making the head and arms slightly smaller and your full body pics will look very nice. I especially like the Karin swimsuit one. Keep women’s fingers and faces (Chun) slender though. Keep it up!

TRT/SPT: finally done with Honda, eh? Good you posted it up. Cool pic, simple but effective composition. Would’ve been better if you used a colour to shade instead of black though.
MatthewK: nice concept, you do scenes well. Some things to take note of: Perspective seems a bit off (I think it’s the horizon line), and I think Honda’s upper body shouldn’t have quite so much shadow. Also, no-one but the two competitors should be inside or on the sumo ring
DFist: VERY nice work, I think this my fave from you yet. I like th bits of orange here and there, perhaps a bit more of it on his forehead might be nice. Right now the orange on the tip of his nose stands out a bit, makes me think he’s drunk

Oh, don’t worry about it. I mean, on time entires are best, but I’d still rather have late entries than no entries. The more the merrier, so don’t hesitate to submit for past characters in addition to the current ones.
