Sorry for the really late submission for Ken and screwing up the flow. I was just intimidated by the quality of work here, as sad as that may sound… -__- …and so I waited until now to get up off my seat. Besides, the only way to improve is to seek help from those better than you.

Ron pretty much covered it, with the HB, B, 2B, etc leads. Except that in my case I got 2 kinds of 2B lead… one’s softer and marks more darkly, while the other is cheaper and marks quite lightly. I can’t stand using HB pencils 
I use 0.5mm mechincal pencils for pretty much everything I’ve ever drawn and posted on SRK… except for the few times I used a pen.

welcome back, and with some really nice art to boot. Great sense of motion, nice choice of camera angle, and I really like the colours on Ken. I think Sagat’s right foot should be larger though.

Hehe… I though Ron would mention the lighting before anyone else. I’m two minds about having light sources match up exactly. I did have the light sources matching up a little more at one point, but it just looked odd to me for some reason… I think it’s something I need a better understanding of before I do the heavy realistic lighting/shadow thing. I decided to just use balanced shadows and add highlights to the right to account for the setting sun in the background. I guess I’m not sure how to balance aesthetics and realistic lighting… couldn’t ambient/reflected light cause that sort of lighting?
As for the eyepatch… damn. I knew I should’ve looked at a pic as reference. Let’s just pretend it’s 2P Sagat.
you mean 1P Sagat (ever notice that it’s the 2P versions of character that have everything correct? Vega’s claw, Sagat’s scar & eyepatch, Necro’s tattoos, Yun’s cap, etc) thing is, you’ve got his scar going the right way but the eyepatch on the wrong eye…

Ohh nice view Greyhound. Very dramatic with the hot reds and oranges. Takes me back to the old street fighter 2 days. Those were the good days.
Landel. I do that just to bring our the figure. I think chiaroscuro is the correct terminology of composing light and darks. And all the misc. lines you see is toning of the paper and gestures to see what I want on paper first.

Deon: Sup dude, good to see you joining us I like your use of the parchment colored BG and single color accents. I think these sketches could benefit from a bit more structural underdrawing. Get them basic forms fleshed out before adding details so that in the end we can feel the forms more accurately.

I think overall, both of them have heads just slightly too large for their bodies as well, but it’s not the noticible. Good stuff man. Keep em coming.
Kando: Very cool man, I don’t really say much wrong with the arms. He’s got a lot of additude, like the rest of your drawings. Good job with that. I think it would be nice to see some more defined shadow shapes.
SFMC: Hehe, I remeber that one from a while back. Badass sketch. I like how much you were able to exaggerate his facial structure while maintaining a sense of realism.
El Suave: Can’t see the pic either. As Rook suggested, try using imageshack to host it.
greyhound: Very sweet atmosphere in the pic, man. Here’s a quick and sloppy lighting edit. I mostly just darkened stuff but didn’t feel like messing with the hues much, but a good guideline to keep in mind when playing with extreme lighting conditions like this is that your shadows should always be the opposite temperature as your light. So, if you have intense warm light, you’re gonna have cooler shadows. Keep at it man, you’re definately on the right path.

Hehe, after all this discussion about exactly which way sagat’s eyepatch and scars go, I realized that I did mine backwards. Hehe, I guess I’ll just flip the whole pic in phothoshop after I’m done.
I’ve linked it from somewhere else (Sheezyart >__>), so I’m hoping it will work. However, there is no point to reinsert the image here, so I’ve updated my old post. Sagat week, huh? Who’s next? ^^;;
Greyhoundbus - The intensity appeals to me… good stuff.
Kandoken - The sketchy quality is great, and the length of the arms isn’t much of an issue at all, as in, it doesn’t distract me or jump out at me as a glaring fault. I’m curious to see what else you have in store, as I’m a long-time stalker of this thread.
Deonysios - The first thing that caught my eye was the translucent quality of the scar. Very neat. Your Sagat looks a little similar to your Akuma, though, but that’s probably just a matter of personal style. ^^
SFMC - Nice. I really like the definition of those menacing facial features; and it really doesn’t matter that you didn’t continue fleshing out the rest of the upper body.
Star250 - Ha ha, I love this. Not sure if the comical feel was intended, or if it is just my take on it. Nothing like a hardened fighter revealing their emotional, angsty side. It would have been neat if you had a little more of his form in there, but it’s still okay as is.

dude, scabrous. Thats nicely done. Very energetic poses. Look like they’re straight from a comic book. Two things I would do is make ken’s hair flow to the right and sagat’s face looking at us instead of to the right. Looks like he’s flying by instead of doing a kick .
GreyHound: Pimp sagat and background. You have alot of groovy bgs and composition ideas. Chain’s paintover made it even better by making the lighting from the sun more dominant. When you have such a bright light like the sun in that position its good to make it influence the lighting in your picture more. it’ll tie everything together.
Deon: nice two sketches of sagat and akuma. You capture the energy of the characters pretty well. Like the single color shading as well.
Kandomodo: your sag reminds me of gregory peck because of the determined scowl default look haha nm that make no sense. What happen to the no line look though? You should keep going on with that. chaaaalengeee yourself. I learned something while flipping through an anatomy book that’ll help your pic as well. namely the pecks and abs being too high and the belly button below the 3rd set of ab muscles instead of the last one. The should also slant down outward, then in. here’s a scan from my book. This is the one by Stephen Rogers Peck. Pretty thorough book. The best thing about it is the sketches after each sections. There alot of comparison to common objects like the female knee being a cupid’s face and the scapula being a folded trowel. The bad thing about it is they don’t come with explanations. Sometimes its clear and you can tell what’s going on but a few of them are confusing. I would love to have more like them and they’d go great in a classroom environment with an instructor to explain to you. And that is what’ll I’ll do. I’ll post some scans in the tips thread and someone more knowledgable can comment on them.
