I wasn’t aware of cr. lp into c. hk. I tried it a few times before the update and could never pull it off. That’s part of the reason why I felt it would be useless. I haven’t messed around with slide yet.
I tested super cancel to ultra 1 on block just to see if it’s a true block string and yes it is. I tried reversal ultras and 3f dps and I was not able to peform a reversal because of the block stun. It does a shit load of chip damage. It’s kind of cheap lol.
Slide is safe on block at certain ranges. I tested it on Chun Li and I was not able to punish with her 3 frame crouch moves because the slide has more push back. However Chun’s mk super can still punish it but that’s not saying anything. That super punishes everything anyway.
I fought a Yun and it was hilarious. The fucker tried a ex shoulder and I punished it with lk super and canceled to U1. I lmao
I will troll with U1 for a month and then I will probably switch back to U2…the better Ultra
You can space the slide to be +3 with good spacing to avoid reversal super from chun.
Super > ultra is a true blockstring
Slide might have less recovery and might cover more range
Mp beats bison jump hp easily with correct timing.

How the hell do you cancel the super into U1? It’s the last hit, right? I can’t seem to get it to work no matter how I try.

Already recieve hatemail and 2 lol mail because of the super cancel to U1 chip damage. I’m using it the same way Balrog uses dash punch to super to chip win, but this is 3x worse.
I need to test the slide more. It’s definately safer at certain ranges.

You must do it before the last hit. Hell, you can even do it just after the first hit of the Super. No strict timing required at all.
And I forgot to mention that EX MGU > U1 is safer now because it pushes your opponent back and the timing isn’t strict. I wish U2 was like that.

No. I might use U1 in more matchups, but U2 is still better
Thanks, I get it now. I was trying to do it when the last hit of the super connects, but then I remembered that this is SF4 and you can just mash it out 90 minutes before you do it and it’ll come out.
U1always pushed people far enough for you to not get punished after the ex mgu juggle. idk if getting two hits is still possible, but its safe. great for closing out rounds.
Just got home from work and getting down to it now. So far these are my two cents:
St. MP into sobat is going to be a great long-range poking tool. Its hitbox is a lot better, and Dee Jay really needed a long-range poke he can buffer specials into. I am especially looking forward to really easily confirmable supers into U1 off a long-range, speculative st. MP. This is actually a brand new tool, not just an improvement. We’ll have to see how much use it actually gets, though.
Super into U1 does massive damage and even more impressive chip. What everyone’s saying about it being a true blockstring is even more heartening, since one of the main deficiencies of using U1 as chip in 2011 was that you could just focus the first hit. Working it into a super makes it much safer. That said, I don’t anticipate many situations where you have full super and ultra with Dee Jay. It might be possible to rethink his game strategy so that he uses much less meter, but with the importance of EX Sobat and EX MGU to his game, I don’t see it happening.
I’m disappointed U1 is exactly the same outside of super, but I can’t say I truly expected a Balrog style juggle from EX MGU. That would make DJ mid- to top-tier, and we can’t have that.
The damage buff to sobats is neat, and in my opinion now makes sobat combos edge out MGU combos as his standard meterless BnBs. Not much to say in terms of new options in this case, obviously.

Also can I just say I love that they put in a new Dee Jay line for when he does super into U1: “IT’S ALL OVA BAAABY!”

He feels a bit faster, but i’ve been playing ST / 3s pretty much non-stop for months now so i’ll have to load up Super Deejay to compare to.
j.hk, cl.hk (both hits) xx super xx U1 for 693 damage… so in case that ever comes up as a punish opportunity
The range on st.mp is almost the same as st.mk now, it’s ridiculous. I was already using it as a poke from some ranges and having success. I’m not sure how much the special cancel will be for me as I’m usually walking forward to poke with it. Maybe I won’t need to walk forward with the range increase.
I’ve been using sobat combos all along so the buff to damage is pure bonus for me.
I know everyone says EX sobat and EX MGU are big parts of his game, but I’ve been getting by pretty well without ever landing an EX MGU and there’s often no need to use an EX sobat. With the AE improved lk and mk upkicks I’ve stopped using EX upkicks entirely, and EX air slasher has limited usefulness to begin with.
To me it seems meter use will be sobat FADC combos if you land a hit, and stock super if you don’t get the opportunity for a combo. With the new super into U1 giving a good 177 chip damage it makes hoarding meter better. Even just using the chip damage and attack duration to eek out a timer win should allow for 10-15 second timer scams if you can force them to block something.

i’ve managed to stock super unintentionally, especially while using blocking as my first option unless i know an ex move will work.
