its truly sad when you force yourself to love a game. da hell is up that crap? i personally love original street fighter 2 and still occasionally play it. but all that love roots back to the days of 1992, thats my childhood. as a person, i’m growing up, the times are changing. and when i play CFE, this game does actually does suck, yes i played it for a few hours with buddies and were pissed off cause it was weak. no competitive adrenaline rush to win in this game, it was just weak. the greatest moves and specials when we were young being executed on a oppenent felt so great, but now when i execute moves. i feel like i’m just hitting buttons now with a empty mind. i realized, even though its so called, “old school 2d.” it fucking sucks. i’m not gonna even bother trying to love this game but some hot headed people are so desparate that they’ll play the game until they like it?! da hell, saying shit like this game is only for old school. those are the people who capcom are playing, they’re too fucking ignorant and desparate so capcom knows these people will support these half assed games. i don’t care if capcom made a shitty game or whatnot. its just very sad to hear some fools think the so called “solid play” or “tourney worth game.” shitty graphics ultimately redeems its total gameplay thats been the same shit we’ve lived through back in the 90s. for i, the best attitude to make out for my false hype for this game is “i don’t like it, so i will not play it. i will play something else.” than, “i don’t like it. so i will play it til i like it cause i’m still nuts about street fighter solid game play what none of losers of fanboys marvel vs capcom2 people can never understand.”
i seriously think we need to write a petition to capcom about this game. its not just the rehashed sprites. its so much more than that. i think the petition has to fully detail why we think this game is crap. why it feels like it was a half assed effort on the part of capcom.
i dunno if it will work, but i mean we should try. imho.
anyone know capcom’s email?
All the good things, and all the bad things I’ve heard about this game seem to really be how I feel about it as well, it’s such a tough call. When you think it on the competitive level, it can potentially bring together the SFA3, ST, and SF3 players into one game, but the limited choice of characters hurts it, and I always said it would. I know the custom combo system isn’t the same as Alpha 3 and it’s more like CvS2 so maybe compared it to that, but regardless, I think they were going for “Five different types of players can all enjoy one game.” but the selection is just dull at best. SF2 has a nice choice of characters, SF3 is reasonable, Alpha 3 is pretty good, but I think the Warzard characters and Anakaris and Felicia are a waste. They almost treated Warzard as if they were new characters because to most of us they are infact new characters but they have little substance. Having one actual new character, Ingrid, no matter how neat she might be, was also a waste. I haven’t used Shin Akuma and Pyron yet cause I never bothered saving, are they any good?
But anyway, maybe we can all look forward to CFE2 next year in which they’ll probably add a lot of characters to milk out more money. Does anyone else think that the selection screen just looks tiny with all the empty space around it and the giant pictures of the characters hoggin up the screen?
Matt
Capcom’s first attempt at any fighting game is always incomplete and heavily flawed, their 2nd attempt is what the game should’ve been. CFE is OK, very fun but OK. CFE2 will be amazing if Capcom’s track record is anything to go by.
Some fantastic arguments being brought up here. I gotta remember these for my rhetorics class.
“this game is the biggest piece of shit beside svc
what a waste of a dvd burning this shit”
How appropriate, coming from a guy with a sprite edit of Twelve screwing Cammy.
“haha @ us for going out and buying a piece of shit when we coulda just stayed at home and sat on the toilet to make one.”
Another fine argument.
Now, I just received a review copy of this game, and having heard some opinions on it these last few days, I was kind of worried about having ordered a “real” copy as well.
Turns out, the game is good.
Yes, the sprites are dated. We all knew that. Yes, the backgrounds are poor Photoshop hacks. We saw that in the first pictures. Yes, there are few characters. We knew that as soon as the beta began, and later additions Pyron and Akuma didn’t change anything.
BUT, we didn’t know anything about the gameplay and it works out really well. The game is (=seems to be so far, at least) balanced, unlike MvC2, CvS2 or SvC.
The Third Strike characters behave pretty much exactly like in Third Strike, except for the loss of one super each. They have EXACTLY the same amount of animation (I switched back and forth and didn’t see the slightest difference). They’ve changed the colors (overall CFE has deeper colors) but they’re all there. The animation is sped up or slowed down sometimes, but it’s all there. I was prepared to find cut down remakes as in CvS2 Chun and Yun, but found that a CFE match between Alex and Urien plays pretty much like a 3S match.
The SF2 characters have one super more to play with and new sprites. Would you rather have had the ST sprites? Now there’s quality difference for you.
Darkstalkers characters are old and ugly, but seem to work pretty much as they should. Besides, there hasn’t been arcade perfect versions of Demitri or Jedah on a US console before. Anakaris and Felicia only in MvC2, and that’s not really them to begin with.
Alpha characters might have the biggest changes, but I’ve never been a fan of custom combos. When I play Karin, Rose or Guy I can use them just like in A3 A-Ism. Works for me.
And finally there’s Warzard who FEW here can compare to the original. Hauzer and Hydron were never playable before. I would have preferred Blade and Lavia, but it doesn’t really matter. These guys look fine and have some original ideas that no other fighters in this game have.
None of these characters have really changed more than could be expected in a minor update/patch. So, CFE succeeds with what it set out to do: create a game where five different series are put together in a balanced way. That’s what we were told at E3 this year and you can’t say that Capcom have lied to us or anything. If you were hyped up to believe something else, it’s your own fault. If you didn’t care for the game back then either, then why are you still here complaining about it?
I’ll enjoy CFE and recommend others to do so as well. Then we can all enjoy the inevitable sequel that will correct the biggest problem: the lack of characters. And we will have another classic like MvC2 or CvS2. I’m fine with that.
i’m not fine with capcom releasing games as tests to see whats wrong with them then “fixing” it and rereleasing what they shouldve done in the first place.
thats what beta testing is for. maybe they need to beta test in to a wider audience or ask for opinions from the community or something.
but the whole, “well they always release crap but then they fix it up later” is bullshit. how much money and time do we have to waste before capcom gets it right the first time around?
this game feels like they didnt even try. it feels like they thought of it 6 months ago and created it within those 6 months by copy/pasting characters into a game engine. they used concept art for backgrounds, drew some basic ass life bars in photoshop and stole the ggxx soundtrack and called it a day.
i’m still having a hard time understanding how capcom could have let this game leave their offices. it DOES indeed look like the game was a mugen job + a bad photoshop/image ready job. the gameplay…just makes me want to go back and play cvs2 or 3s. more and better characters in those games.
edit
the game is NOT good. it is PLAYABLE. but its still unacceptable.
its half assed and you ppl who won’t come out and say it know it.
and it does matter. it should. ppl who are like, “oh it doesn’t” are the reason why we keep getting rehashes. someone, enough ppl, need to complain and complain loud and clear so capcom gets the message. its disgusting that ppl are making themselves like this game because “nothing else is out.”
I picked this up last night and so far im having alot of fun with it. My only gripe is the lack of characters as im really just using Guiile and Karin after trying almost the whole cast.
waaaat a fucking loser. i disagree with the 3rd strike characters playing exactly the same as in the original game. and what kinda idiot would bother running through the frames to see if they match to the original game due to speed different. but yes, everyone should play this game cause its soooooo fucking great. YES! same shit to the max, its the greatest. if it sucks, it doesn’t matter cause you still have to like it cause it has ryu and chun li like the original shiat.
The probelm with this game is it feels like every other capcom fighter. All the Red Earth cast sucks. Well thats just my 5 cents.
Well I’ve gotten a chance to play it for a full solid weekend. Here’s my thoughts.
We all know the game is a hack job. We also know that almost every game in their library has a sequel that beats the original in every way. That being said, I’d look to a sequel soon that will eclipse this one (like CvS1).
For what it is, it’s honestly not that bad. At first I didn’t like the fact that characters weren’t completely true to their origins (like Ryu having two supers, Alpha characters not getting their true V-ism, etc) but in the end, I think the game is tournament playable because of the changes they made. So far nobody is broken (lets hope that doesn’t change) and although the tag format is almost pointless, it does keep you from having a hopelessly uphill battle when your character gets countered hard (like say ST Honda vs ST Bison).
As far as characters go, I like what they did to most of the characters for the most part.
3rd Strike: I think they might have toned down the 3rd Strike characters a little too much. No stun for EX moves? That’s weak as hell. They could have fixed that EX tackle for Urien as well. Chun Li is pretty good stil though, and I think Alex isn’t bad either. Time will tell, but I think these two will become popular at tournaments. Parrying is…different, but not hard. It seems like you have to parry multi hit moves slower.
Red Earth: Interesting additions to the team. I think all of them would be best used in a good keep away game. Two of them have massive range (Leo, Hauser) one has very good zoning capabilities (Hydron AKA Nool) and the Ninja has a double jump and that long ass Roundhouse. The power up system seems too weak to me…perhaps it’s just me though.
Super Turbo: Man…you’re gonna see all four of them in tournaments all over the place. They all are stupid strong, and they build meter the fastest, meaning that they will be frontmen for a lot of teams. Zangief can shut down characters completely if they don’t have a good reversal. Ryu is just strong and will most likely have a good fireball trap (his recovery on his fireball is the best I’ve seen in a while). Guile is the same as he’s always been, and Bison while the weakest of the 4 (IMO) still has nasty links, and a safe scissor kick which is very important.
Alpha: I’m worried about these guys because I always get apprehensive when a custom combo groove pops into a game somewhere because they always get the nastiest stuff. So far though things seem pretty basic. Guy and Karin have easy customs that do respectable damage. I haven’t found much for Rose, but she might be popular because her fireball absorb gives here about a 5th of her entire bar! Her supers aren’t all that bad either. Sakura…well I’m sure everybody knows the story on her. Take CvS2, take out the dash and/or run, and a few other things, and there she is unchanged.
Darkstalkers: Jedah is the most mobile character in the game. He can rush and turtle at will which basically makes him control the tempo unless you can somehow floor him (which is possible, it’ll just take some work). Demitri isn’t all that great to me. Anakaris and Felicia are unique. Anakaris still doesn’t have a throw (I guess he’ll never get one) but his hands of doom do a ton of damage. Plus he can side switch if he gets in the corner…a huge asset that was brought over. Felicia can charge meter which…well that makes her useful right there. Plus she’s very fast, perhaps one of the games fastest characters.
Sorry for the long review, but this thread made me think. One more thing all of you might want to consider. Capcom may have possibly gotten lazy over the years. But, if you ask whether or not I’d rather have a game that is good but could be better, or wait for 8020394 years for another game to come out (like they did with CvS2), I’ll gladly wait to see if they can improve on the base they have here. In the meantime, support the game, so there can be a second one that can fix all of your gripes…either that…or go play Tekken 5…cause that’s all that’s new around the States right now.
I personally don’t like people trying to speak for me, so please quit =). The game is good, in fact you are outnumbered here more people like it than dislike it by a pretty clear margin. Just because YOU and some others don’t like it doesn’t mean your word is gospel. I find it disgusting some people feel like they have to become anti-capcom zealots when they have a differing opinion.
Christ shut up already. You hate the game, do you have to post that 100 times?
The graphics and animation are pretty terrible, but the gameplay (that thing that nobody cares about apparently) is good. Again, this is the first game in a long time that has any sort of range game at all. In the last few Capcom games the vast majority of the characters had the same effective ranges and 90% of the screen area was wasted.
This game doesn’t have much to offer graphic whores or people who just want to mess around in training mode all day and think they are playing a game. It doesn’t have a lot of new systems or features - which IMO is a fine thing. All of CVS2s features and systems didn’t prevent it from being a sucky game with a basic engine that just felt off.
CFE=246 MB’s lol
Well said. Although mentionig the GG soundtrack with this soundtrack in the same sentence is pretty harsh.
i’ll post how ever many times i damn well plz.
i’m not a graphics whore or anti capcom or none of that. i’m just a person who was looking forward to something potentially great that turned out to be a huge disappointment. at this point i’m just like…capcom needs to hear from fans. instead of supporting, imho, crap, we need to take a stand and tell them that this is unnaccceptable. otherwise 34234234 years later we will still be getting half assed first efforts, and fixed second efforts.
haha @ all the ppl looking forward to sf4 when based on capcom’s record the game will be shit until sf4 super turbo tournament edition. why? because ppl like YOU don’t want to change anything about the status quo. smh@ this.
i’m not saying that capcom has to, although it’d be hot, have super high res, hand drawn everything, but AT LEAST make the game look like you tried. this game looks like they didn’t even try and plays like it too. thats my biggest issue. like i said before, its more than the rehashed sprites.
and i know i’m outnumbered as far as ppl agreeing with my opinion, but hell, 48% of the country is outnumbered when it comes to who voted for bush, yet the man is still a dumbass.
i’m just calling a spade a spade.
What made this game unplayable? Other than having gripes that your favorite character isn’t in it and it plays nothing like the original… but you keep saying that it offers nothing new.
come again? i said it was playable. i also think that it was a half assed effort on capcom’s part even though it is still playable.
…
The game is a half-assed effort, yes…I played this and then played Saturn Vampire Savior and yes, the graphics are utter shite in CFE (even in RGB, it is just horrible), but the game is fun in vs mode. I’ve played with members of our crew and we like it. It’s balanced, it’s fast enough, it has atleast a little better representation of Savior chars and well, it appears that it is going to get tournament endorsement. Of course I wish they had spent more time on the game. Of course I wish they didn’t cut so many frames that it looks like a 2-D game run in VGA mode (Savior chars look especially horrible), but hopefully part 2 will have more diverse chars…
I wish they could use the same effort as Sammy is with reload, I really do, but atleast they made an effort to balance the game (early reports anyway), which is a great achievement unto itself.
ssb
Wow. What a fantastic demonstration of someone not having a clue about their subject (Third Strike specifically).
Let me explain this to someone who apparently doesn’t play Third Strike : they got shafted. Try looking for a low mk -> super link with Chun Li on CFJ. Can’t do it, huh? Try a standard low fierce, ex headbutt, mk crush with Urien. Can’t do that too.
And the list goes on and on…
Conclusion : know what you’re talking about before you open your mouth. The 3S characters do not play the same at all.
PS. This is not a complaint to the fact that the 3S characters don’t play the same. Just a rebuttal to someone ignorant enough to say they play the same in CFJ.
I didn’t single you out man. I was talking to all CFE haters. I rather have good gameplay than spectacular graphics anyday. Look at MKD… The graphics blow any sf game by a mile and yet its ass. Look at GGXX… The graphics is just a GGX makeover but the gameplay is fine.
Anyway, stop trying to convince people who enjoy the game that the game sks. We have heard your opinion and that’s already fine. You don’t like the game, fine. We got your message the first time already.
