I, too, admit to feeling the sensation that CFE is growing on me.
Karin’s bufferable cr. MK may or may not have something to do with this.
I prefer to believe that CFE’s shitty graphics are a cover for a subliminal pattern flashed on-screen forcing you to like the game as you play it more.
Hauser still sucks, though. And Karin’s winquotes speak truth about the game itself.
For me, it’s using Kenji. Easily one of Capcom’s best designed ninja characters. That and he has his “fatality” from Warzard (except this time, he doesn’t squeeze a heart, he squeezes a handfull of “life essence”.
I still can’t recommend this game to anyone above the previous Capcom endeavors, but I’m learning to appreciate this game for what it is.
Heh…I wish Capcom would do a sequel of this game, where you unlocked stages from previous games, as well as music, and well…more characters: more alpha and sf2 chars, the rest of the Warzard and Vampire cast, more sf3 characters, and more characters from other games (Katt from BOF2, dammit!!)
HAHA at capcom for taking 3 years to make this pixelated crap.
my God the pixels are horrible. it is 2004, not 1992. um…
the whole look of the game is horrid. the menu, the life bars, win screen, vs. screen, etc. the music is ass cheeks.
the backgrounds seem there but not a part of the characters. i mean like kenji in the ny stage seems to just float in place. wtf.
this game is a piece of 30 dollar crap. with that said, dammit i’ma make this game good. i spent my money on this pos i’ma make it work.
because it is now and not then. its fucking 2004, not 1992. surely by now capcom could have had new sprites. but its not even the old sprites. its the whole layout of the game. it seriously is like they didnt try. you cannot look at that game from an artistic standpoint and not think that capcom didn’t half ass it.
the menus, the life bars, how the characters look(not necessarily the old sprites but the …i dunno how to explain it. just the overall look), etc.
the fact that i’m not even a graphics whore but this game makes me sound like one when i give my opinion on its look should tell you enough.
hope gameplay is good. i just got the game today and am playing it and stuff. gonna play it with some friends soon.
this is what i am trying to say. i took this off of gamefaqs:
The sound is absolutely horrible.
The background music itself is horrid, so better sound wouldn’t fix it.
The graphics are crap. Everyone is missing a few animations. They even had to drastically slow down Chun Li’s cute jumping up and down laughing winning animation.
the SFX are not even good enough to be called crap.
The screen displays are very, very, low quality and seem like they were tacked on at the last second.
Some of the in battle menus were just cut and pasted from CvS2.
Not only are they missing animtions, but the overall look is very, very pixelated. The background are bland and stoic.
This is basically the Capcom equivalent of SVC Chaos, and to be honest I’d rather play that game than this one.
Ahhh, THAT’S it. You barely even PLAYED it yet, and you think your nit-picking is gonna carry any weight? Heh. AND you referenced the casual gamer-Final Fantasy lover emo-queers at GAMEFAQS?! Man, you’re fucking up all OVER the place. Just play the game. Btw…you actually PREFERRED having low-res characters slapped onto high-res backgrounds (cvs1-2)? That shit looked TOTALLY wrong…CFE brings back the days when sprites matched the backgrounds, and didn’t look out of place. Plus, hand-drawing the backgrounds is a lot more effort-intensive than cranking out like, 3 stages a day at a polygonal workstation. Shit looks tight, and is fun to play. SVC my ass…this game is fuckin’ hot. Don’t be such a sheep, listening to what other people say. I’m glad you have enough resistance to peer pressure to actually BUY the game, now play it. This game fuckin’ smokes SVC like a blunt. Come on, Motoki…come to the Dark Side. Hyo is already here…
You sound as though you like the graphics. Why would you say that? Why oh why would you say that? The sprites aren’t even polished. Just compare the Karin sprite in CFE to the Karin sprite in my av. And the backgrounds…ugh. Take a trip to Mayanmar. Seriously, what is up with that stage?
And only two costumes per character? That doesn’t even sound like Capcom. Anyway, it can be fun to play, but I fail to see how it can be pleasing from an aesthetic standpoint.
rhio: no. there is no fucking excuse whatsoever that capcom released that half assed piece of crap. i don’t care if the game plays like final fantasy 7 + chrono trigger. its still a pixelated piece of garbage that YOU KNOW capcom knows is a piece of pixelated piece of garbage.
hell, marvel was a mugen fest. but it wasn’t so half assed. they seriously half assed this crap. you can just tell. its an insult.
and i saw that post on gamefaqs, and that is exactly what i wanted to say about the game. its more than just:
oh its 2d and its rehashed sprites. much more than that. i mean the basic menu with the basic ass, i just learned photoshop bars is garbage.
i coulda created the menu system 2 years ago when i just learned photoshop.
from a graphics standpoint, this game is garbage.
from a gameplay standpoint, we will wait and see.
but make no mistake about it. capcom half assed this and it is very obvious.
Can’t believe I bought this piece of shit. Each character is stuck with the particular groove from their respective games. Capcom Fighting Regression would be a better name.
Uh…didn’t you know that your Karin sprite is ARCADE resolution, which is higher than HOME CONSOLE resolution? I could quote Milk-Chan right about now, and you’d be perfectly deserving…(Brought to you by ABC’s The More You Know)
Yeah, you know…I may be going nuts, but the psx version looked to actually be in higher resolution than the dc version…same as Jojo’s Bizarre Venture…hmmm. I always wondered how that happened…so that’s a psx sprite in your av?
Back to the topic: what the hell are you guys playing on that you see pixels? I’m playing on a 27 inch tv with composite cables…you should know, if you play on s-video cables, you’re gonna see jags and shit no matter what games you play.
Anyway, I realize how futile it is to try to explain to people that Capcom is too busy going in a new way to cater to their (frankly too high) expectations of new sprites and such, not to mention the way people bitch when they DO give them new sprites and other cool things, so they’re damned if they do and damned if they don’t, and in that situation, it’s just much easier to…uh…don’t (call the grammar police…I just committed a violation). Just enjoy it for what it is, and remember: we aren’t even getting the FULL version.
On the down side, to the haters: you now have to live with what I’ve had to suffer through for years now: people posting links to “cool vids” only to find that it was more boring vids of a game that you consider a pathetic piece of shit (mvc 2, in my case), only now, the vids will be for cfe. At least you’ll be seeing vids of ALL the characters, rather than the same 4-5 characters with different assists helping them do the same combos you saw in the LAST 23 videos. Later, taters. I’m gonna go read some e-novels (my guilty pleasure).
There’s no doubt that Capcom half-assed the presentation–good for me since I don’t really care about that stuff, and it probably helped keep the price down! But I don’t think it’s fair to assume that they did the same for the gameplay, because it actually plays very good (most people who played the game long enough against human opponents will agree).
There are probably a lot of details that were tweaked or changed during development that are responsible for making the gameplay as good as it is now. Those are things that we take for granted, or wouldn’t really know what a game would be like without them.
If you want to ask how they produced all of this so fast–well, maybe Capcom has a very talented development team that knows the ins and outs of fighting game design by now. Or you could say they got lucky or that it is easy, but look at how bad a fighting game can be: SvC; MKD.
Not like it should matter though. If a product is good, why do you care how much effort it required? The game was only $30 anyway!
ive been using ryu as a battery for kenji so far. a lvl three red earth character is pretty badass. just gotta get used to not having a small jump to truly rush with ryu(k groove).
