Not sure if it’s related but I’ve never been able to get a dual modded Cerberus to function correctly on a PC in either mode. When it’s separated from the 360 pcb then it starts detecting on PC again. I mentioned this problem a long time ago but I don’t think a fix was ever found, and it seems like the same problem I’m having with getting PS360+ boards to work on a PC in 360 mode.
My stick was working fine for over a year and now all of a sudden it just doesn’t work at all on only my PC. I’m not really sure how to go about fixing it. I’ve followed every fix I came across while googling the problem and nothing has worked.
In an effort to clean things up and make it easier to troubleshoot I re-did my hori+cerberus mod and identified the issue with start, select, home.
Looking at the screenshot below, I was reading the 2nd connector pinouts as 3p, 4k, 3k, start, select, home in correspondence to the text below it but after looking at it again it looks like its 3p, 4k, 3k, <unknown>, start, select

Doesn’t cerberus get home from the harness? whats the pin between 2k and start? is there a pin for home I’m not seeing?
Thanks
Hey Phreak, I’m looking to use another one of your Cerberus boards in a new project. With the art I’m trying to use, though, there’s an issue with the Xbox Guide panel kinda cutting into one of the parts of the artwork. Do you know if it’s possible to wire up a solution to use start and select together to be the home button, like how the PS360+ is set up?
@kidrobot617
Since the v1,01 firmware the Cerberus supports S+S=H function
S+S=H works for both. The 360 side is hard to test as it uses the same ~1/3 second delay timing, but simply hold for that time and release, it’ll pop up.
If you are on 360 and just hold it the menu will pop too of course to test.
You still have to wire home to the Xbox 360 PCB
Thanks.
Sorry to double post, but just saw that the regular and advanced version are out of stock on Focus Attack. Any word on when more boards will be available?
I sent them a restock the other day, they should be arriving shortly if not already there. Expect them back up in their shop soon.
Hey, I have a modded stick that I’ve been using for a long time on my PC, but it recently stopped working. I upgraded my pc, switched out the motherboard and the processor, and now it has stopped recognizing the stick when i try to force it in xbox mode. My 360 controller still works, and if I don’t force it to xbox mode it is still recognized and I can see the inputs on xpadder. Is there some weird messed up USB driver or something?
EDIT: nevermind, when I plug it into the USB 3.0 port it works as it used to. Just a weird problem with my motherboard i guess.
Did either of you get this to work with the XBOX One Controller? I am interested in this because I just bought a used TE-S XBOX 360 stick to install a Cerberus and add an XBOX One Controller. Also thinking of adding in a Remora. Any thoughts on the success of this world be greatly appreciated before I attempt this!!
I can’t confirm functionality if you add the XBone PCB to a dual modded set up. As I understand it the voltages on the I/O are lower, and I don’t know if it’s 5v tolerant since I haven’t tested it myself.
I do know that things like RT/LT probably won’t function if directly connected to the other signals, regardless, without some added components (what exactly I’m not sure yet).
For the USB, it doesn’t work like that unfortunately and will likely not auto-detect correctly if plugged into the XBone. The cerberus only has 1 secondary channel too (XD+/XD-), so I’m not quite sure how you mean to have both the 360 and Xbone USB channels go through the cerberus. You’d need a switch of some kind afterward to change up how the USB routes to the MS boards. If you can do that, and the I/O are OK to be connected together, in theory you could just rely on forcing the secondary channel via holding LP on plug in and you’d still only have the single USB cable coming from the stick.
edit:
heh, actually, if you had an IMP, you could have that act as the switch and the “switch over” signal could be tied to LP also. Meaning:
Imp primary channel: 360 PCB
Imp secondary channel: Xbone
Imp out -> run to Cerberus’ XD-/XD+What that would give you is that Cerberus would see the 360 while plugging in and swap over as normal where the imp is already set to route to the primary channel. Holding LP while plugging in not only forces the cerb to swap to the secondary channel but also does so to the Imp, giving a direct line to the XBone.
Hi. I’ve got a Cerberus installed in a SFxT Fightstick Pro. It’s worked great for most of a year, but occasionally while it’s plugged in, my Playstation 3 will suddenly alert me that an “Unknown USB Device” has been connected, and the stick and buttons (sans the Home/Guide button) will stop working. Unplugging it from the console and then reconnecting it gets things working right again. So far it’s never happened mid-match, and in fact I think it almost always happens when I’m sitting on a menu not doing anything, so I’ve just been ignoring it. But it’s gotten more frequent lately (or I’ve had a run of bad luck), so I figured I’d better ask about it to be safe, and see if anyone knows why it’s doing this and what I can do to prevent it from happening.
I wouldn’t think it’s due to any loose connections or the like, since it’s happened (more often than not, in fact) while the stick was sitting still on a chair or the ground, not being disturbed. The Cerberus is using the latest firmware. Sorry if there’s any important information I’ve neglected to provide. Thanks for any help you can provide.
First thing to try is replacing the cable to compare. You can easily test this by removing the old cable and just cutting/punching in a new one, then plugging in and letting it sit to see if it does the same thing. I’m guessing just a near year of wear and tear is just causing the cable to degrade a bit.
just in case, double check your USB wiring.
If a green or white wire comes loose in the USB cable, even intermittently it could cause that error.
Alright, I’ll check the wiring, and then see about trying out a new cable when I can get a hold of one. Thanks.
Incidentally, I’ve never noticed it do this when plugged into a PC or Xbox 360. But I guess if it really is a wiring issue, it could be happening with those platforms as well, and they’re just able to recover from it without experiencing an error recognizing the device?
Hurm…
I’m having a similar problem to what was described above. I tri-modded a 360 TE with a cut-down Cerberus board and Xbone pcb. It works fine on 360 and Xbone but on PS3 it will randomly disconnect. All wires have been soldered and have been replaced when the issue was first noticed but it still keeps happening, firmware has also been updated. I’ve done a lot of Cerberus mods and this is the first time a problem has arisen.
Unfortunately I don’t have another Cerberus to replace it with (and so narrow the problem down) so I’m using a ChImp SMD instead : /
It could be the 4066 switch causing the issues, it’s hard to diagnose though since there aren’t really great spots to check the impedance. If you really want to give it a shot you could try measuring the impedance between OD-/OD+ and the two resistors that are inline with the IC (R6 and R7, measure on the pad closest to the 4066). This is after you power it up without D+ and D- actually being connected. The firmware defaults it to the PS3 state so the switch will be put into that selection.
Just wired up a Cerberus to a R1 TE, and it’s definitely the quickest I’ve ever dual-modded a stick with everything being soldered. Having the equivalent of a built-in Imp helps a lot. I guess a Chimp may be even quicker if I use the screw terminals on it, but I’m just speaking from experience.
Curious, does the Cerberus not have Turbo functionality? I wired the Turbo button to it but nothing happens. Not a big deal, I just wanted to give it as much functionality as possible.
Also, total orz moment, but the stick is a personal stick I’m dual-modding and selling to a friend, and I just now noticed that the 360 TE guts I have on-hand for spare parts are for a TE-S, if I wanted to make this easy I could have looked at that, swapped it in, and gone with a traditional Cerberus install. Oh well whatever.
Also-also, for anyone who did the install like me and wants the 360 ring LEDs hooked up, I don’t have the TE PCB in front of me but the silkscreen labels four diodes (D#) in a row, not starting with 1 but they’re basically off on their own, lowest to highest are the 360 ring LEDs from 1-4. I guess you could just assume or trace things out or something but here’s some verification

Cerberus does not have Turbo
I just got this for my SC5 TE. I’m pretty sure I have everything in the right place, but when I plug it into my PC/360 the light comes on for a brief second then nothing. When I hold start and plug it in the LEDs cycle at least. I’m not really sure what’s wrong.

Data lines (green and white), check them. If the LEDs cycle then it has power and the red/black are good to go.
The ones in USB OUT are probably not punched in all the way, not back in the IDC housing enough, or the wires weren’t bitten into enough, you can take out the USB cable and check the ends to see if it looks like the insulation was pierced or not, but check the little windows to ensure the wires are all the way back into the connector. Worst case you can simply strip the ends of those two, twist the ends of them to make sure they are tight, and re-insert as usual if you find that the IDC terminal isn’t piercing the insulation.
