Word. I think i should be able to figure it out. Just gotta make sure I’m not too messy. Thanks for the input.
I installed the phreakmods pcboard and nothing is happening. It’s dead. My PC doesn’t make any sound when I plug in the joystick. It doesn’t recognize that a usb device has been plugged in. Nothing happens on the PS3 either.
USB OUT, check the cable. Make sure the wires are all the way in and the terminal is punched dpwn all the way.
Easiest thing to do is undo it, cut away some of the sheath to expose more wire, and redo it, making sure that you see the wire colors in the little windows
It worked. Passed all the PC tests and seems to be working fine on my PS3 and Tekken. I couldn’t believe it worked. Haven’t tested it on Xbox 360 yet.
Glad you got it up and running, have fun!
@Phreakazoid - So after a few days, I think that the zip-tie did the trick… But duuude - I thought for a minute when I connected my stick to my PC that I had the same problem.
Turns out that the Cerberus obviously took control by default when I plugged it into my PC, but my heart sank a bit when it behaved exactly as it did last week when it would go dead plugging it into my XBox 360… Luckily, I was quick to check my devices list, only to see that the Cerberus had indeed connected.
Doing a force-360 mode override worked like a charm, since the P1 LED immediately blinked and stayed on… Which leads me to the following suggestion: Think you could give some kind of visual indicator when the Cerberus is in control on a PC in a future firmware update? I figured you could just turn on the P1 and P3 LEDs, so that the half circle looks like a “C”, hehe. Anyway, just a suggestion. Been LOVING the fact that I can use my stick on both consoles now, especially since all except two of my FG’s are on PS3.
I’m running the Windows 8.1 Preview and my stick isn’t working when I plug it in, including holding down 1P, holding down 1K, or just plain plugging it in. I have a Madcatz SE Xbox stick that works perfectly with my PC, except the joystick in it just died so I’m waiting on a replacement. Still, every time I plug in my modded stick I’m getting an error and under Devices in the Control Panel I see “Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed).” The Cerberus works flawlessly on Xbox and PS3 aside from this problem. Is there a solution to this?
Windows 8
Is there a solution to this?
yes downgrade to Windows 7
Is that the only fix, probably not. But alot of sticks are having issues in Win 8.
Try to see if the stick will work if you force Xbox 360 Mode
Already tried that. Also already tried forcing PS3 mode. That’s what I meant by “holding down 1P, holding down 1K.”
i bought the cerbberus from focusattack. installed it and the ps3 works but the xbox will not work when i plug it into pc it and hold lp(x) it says unrecognized device. any suggestions?
I installed a Cerberus into a TTT2 TE-S+, and I have no issues with the stick in forced 360 mode. As a matter of fact, that’s how I usually use it on my PC (Wondows 8 here).
Have you guys tried a different USB port? Certain ports are finicky at times… I’m also a Sim racer, and certain devices only like to work on certain ports. If you have one, you might also want to try a powered USB hub, since lack of adequate power could also cause unexpected results.
Can I ask what kind of TE the install went into? I remember the Soul sticks have issues with certain OS’s. Although the cerberus itself should work OK with Win8, that’s an odd one.
Mind trying different ports on the PC? Is this going through a hub at all?
Re-do the 360 PCB USB lines going into the terminals. Make sure that you can see the wires in the little windows before clamping the terminals down. Chances are one of the wires is not in all the way, or D+/D- are backward.
I’m using a SFxT Fightstick Pro. Tried all of the USB ports on my computer, none of them work. Tried forcing both modes on each port as well.
Hey Phreak/all!
I recently got a Cerb PCB and the installation was easy enough (so far).
I ran into a couple snags - the first time I mounted the Cerb onto the X360 PCB, the top black wire came un-soldered.
No big deal, I re-soldered it, but it’s worth noting. (The stick has had some probs, a little shoddy here and there.) The stick i’m using is the MCZ TE Soul Caliber V
However, when I plug the USB into the computer, it says the device is not recognized. When I plug it in with no button press, the Xbox button flashes pretty quickly before going to dark.
When I press P1 and plug it in, the Xbox button turns on and holds for a brief moment, before going to dark.
When I hold start and plug it in, the Ring LED’s circle clockwise in a good fashion. (Not sure if the LED’s are supposed to be doing anything else, all that happens is the LED’s around the ring flash in a clockwise rotation.)
Any suggestions? I’m basically ready to do this from scratch but would like a more focused starting point if possible.
Cheers,
Ridill
EDIT: Works now. Can’t believe it was something so simple as that the clamps were not biting through the jackets on the wires. Made indents with an exacto and got the contact I needed. Computer recognizes all.
Sooo… I bought cerberus and installed it today on my Te S xbox 360 stick… Nothing happens when I plug it in my pc using forced modes or bootloader mode on, however works without any problem when I plug it in without anything pressed… My xbox doesn’t recognize ir though suggestions?
Well, for BootLoader mode, I’m pretty sure you need to have the Atmel FLIP environment installed… It includes the driver so that your machine will recognize the microprocessor when it’s in BootLoader mode… On the other hand, if you’re finding that the XBox 360 PCB does not respond when plugged into the Xbox or in forced XBox mode on PC, then I would double check your connections. I personally had an issue with a bad contact on one of the pin lines, so I wound up running a wire tie along the left side to gentle apply pressure between the two. Haven’t had an issue since. After checking to make sure that your XBox USB line is properly crimped by the Cerberus connectors (you should see the ends of the wires in the little windows on each, I would do the following:
-
First, with your panel opened, check and make sure that there isn’t any residual wire strands or junk from the cord cutting process. Raise the Cerberus, check, and reseat the board. Those little strands can easily short things if they happen to come in contact with connections on the boards.
-
With the top panel of your stick still unbolted, apply a little pressure evenly along the top of the Cerberus, making sure that it’s properly seated, and plug it into your XBox. If you find that it recognizes the stick, then I would recommend that you wire tie it down like I did, since it might come loose just enough to make false contacts with general handling of the stick.
If that still doesn’t work, then I think that Phreakazoid would be the best person to offer additional suggestions.
I just finished modding my MadCatz Fightstick Pro, It took my about an hour which isn’t bad at all considering I’m a first time modder. I only had one small problem with the connectors for the USB not biting into the wire, I just stripped them myself and had no problem after that. This is a great product and I would highly recommend it. Thanks Phreakazoid good stuff!
Ok so I was just going to get a simple programmer and make my own ps3 board but I am really liking the fact that this board will allow for player leds and I dont want to have to search for the code for that so my question is simple and probably best answered by someone who knows what they are doing.
Is the auto detect forced by just connecting this board to an xbox 360 pcb or do you have to hook it up a certain way for it to start autodetecting?
I ask because I dontwant auto detect and would much rather hook the boards up individually to a dpdt switch.
Second question, can I remove all of the housings from the pcb without causing the board to go haywire?
I know that I can remove the 5 and 6 pin jst housings but I am not sure what the big black housings are and I would like to remove those as well without the board going haywire.
I am pretty sure I can but just want to be sure.
I pretty much want this board only for the player leds and the fact that there are multiple spots to solder to so I can dual mod easier. The size is also a bit of a plus.
I am pretty heavily debating this and an SFxT ps3 fightpad so any anwers to my questions are greatly appreciated. Thanks.
EDIT: Also for the life of me, I can not tell the difference between the two versions FA sells. Is the $30 version just the quarter cutout?
Yes, on the $30 Cerberus version being the quarter-cutout.
It’s cheaper because it doesn’t have the full assembly the more expensive “piggyback” version does.
The $30 version is for non-Mad Catz TE joysticks like the Hori line and Razer Atrox.
Yep, the $30 “quarter” PCB Cerberus is the one you HAVE to solder to for connections. Seems simple enough, though, if you’ve figured out exactly which line connections from the 360 PCB need to be joined to the Cerberus.
That’s the version I’m looking at if and when I decide to get a Razer Atrox.
It’s pretty much the best option right now for a dual-compatible joystick.
If I really wanted multi-console compatibility, I’d get the MC Cthulu and an Imp. I don’t even know if that’s been tried with the Razer Atrox; I frankly want to stick to less experimental mod work that’s been vetted out by other people…
Actually further looking at FA site shows that the $40 version has the bottom connectors(that plug into TE boards) and the $30 version is the board just without those bottom connectors. However you can cut out the quarter piece from both versions.
In other words the $30 version looks as if it is only missing the bottom connections so it is the entire board like I thought.
Upon further thinking, common sense tells me that for auto detection I have to hook up the D+ and D- from the xbox 360 to the cerberus so because I dont want that I just dont connect the xbox D+ and D- to the cerberus. Please someone just confirm if I am right or not because I really dont want to deal with auto detect and dont want the board to ever try to autodetect since l am going to be using a dpdt switch.
Also if someone can still answer my second question about the housings that I dont know about. Just want to make sure those unknown housings(to me) dont have anything in them that will cause the board to go haywire if removed.
