I got my Cerberus in today and I’m having an issue so far. I plug up to a Win 7 64 bit laptop and it says “device not recognized”. I plug up to xbox and similar to the pc, the leds light up for a split second then turn off and the controller is not responsive. Plug up to ps3 and the leds just keep flashing but I’m not able to do anything. Any ideas where I may have went wrong?
Check the USB connection. A common mistake is swapping the D- and D+ lines around.
Not sure if you mean make sure I have USB in and USB out in correct terminals but they are inserted correctly if that’s the case.
He means to make sure that your white & green wires are in the correct terminals. But definitely double check everything.
My Cerberus boards are not recognised on 64bit Win7 computers so I wouldn’t worry about that too much for now, just focus on getting them working on consoles. If no joy then use a multimeter to make sure that the USB cables and terminals aren’t damaged somewhere.
I don’t have a multimeter at the moment to test this with. Considering the the usb plug is responsive once plugged in and holding start and plugging the usb plug in lights up all 4 led indicators, do you think I’ve maybe gotten a short in the plug going from the pcb to the Cerberus possibly?
Ok, just a few verifications here.
- Plugging into the PC with START held down cycles the LEDs clockwise and you can hear the USB connection sound?
Plugging into your PS3 all 4 LEDs flash at the same time briefly?
It sounds to me like you have one or multiple issues going on so we’ll just have to narrow some things down.
- Check and recheck your USB cables into the IDC terminals, make sure they are ALL the way INTO the terminals and the terminals are ALL the way down.
- Check your 1-6 cables, in particular cables 4 and 5, are they swapped on accident?
One thing you can do is unplug the board’s from each other and remove the 360 PCB’s USB connection so that only the Cerberus is actually connected to anything, then verify it works on your PC/PS3 before moving forward.
Pics of course help also if you can.
When I had the Cerberus only hooked up it still doesn’t work with ps3 or pc. Pc still gives error message but when I hold start down all leds rotate clockwise. Checked 1-6 cables and they are all inserted in the right terminals. When hooked up to the 360 PCB i still get the same issues where it lights up for a split second and then is no longer responsive on 360 and when plugged to ps3 all 4 leds just flicker on and off. Here are a few pics of everything.

What model of 360 stick are you putting it into?
Re-do your USB cables, it looks like the white wire (D-) may not be in all the way. The LEDs cycling indicates to me that the board has power and the code is running, but the data lines aren’t reaching their destination.
Unhook the IDC terminals all the way back, remove all 4 wires, cut/start fresh and push them ALL the way back until you can see them in the windows. Then press down hard to make sure that the terminals are closed all the way.
Methinks a BB stick.
Thanks for the help. I’ll check it out tonight or tomorrow and see if that fixes the issue. It’s an MLG TE that I’m trying to put it in.
I finally got it working now but there is one small problem. PS3 works fine and Xbox also works with the exception of left and right directions. Everything else works. I thought it might have been the sanwa mircoswitch set so I swapped it out and it’s still the same thing. Any idea what would cause that?
The joystick harness somewhere isn’t seated correctly. The default cable is easy to install backwards on the JLF end of the cable.
I recommend the Toodles JLF-TE joystick wire harness
But it works fine when plugged up to PS3/PC. All directions function properly. It’s only when 360 is plugged in that it doesn’t work right.
EDIT: Nevermind got it fixed…
Also, this may be a wiring issue on my part. Sometimes when plugged up to 360 it works fine on the first time. Other times I have to plug it up several times for it to recognize. Like I said, it may be I don’t have one of the wires all the way in the terminal right.
Installed into an HRAP VX-SA Kai… Sorry if this images is too large, it has been resized to 40% its original size but still looks really big IMO.
Spoiler
O I’ve wired something improperly, haven’t I?
yeah, you don’t have any access to XBOX since XD+ and XD- are not highlighted and if you haven’t cut the traces off the USB, you’re mixing Xbox and Cerberus Data Lines together
So I need to cut my USB cable and wire that to VCC, OD-, OD+, and GND. Then from the HORI PCB to XD+ and XD-? What about GND and VCC from the the HORI board.
I tried to use your post here on page 3 as a guide but we are using two different 360 boards so I still had some complications. Perhaps I am mistaken, but it appears that you did not cut your USB cable. Because of this assumption I figured I would not have to the same for mine.
there’s something very specific that is hidden underneath that one. On MCZ boards, there are 0 ohm resistors on the D+ and D- data lines. Those are removed, isolating the signal from D+ and D- of the xbox board and the USB cable from one another. The XD+ and XD- are connected to one side of those points to tap the xbox signal and the other half is the D+ and D- of the Cerberus board. Hope that was clear and helps
