Cerberus: Unleash the hellhound in your arcade stick

Hey sorry for the delay on your order. Built up a board for you (I was out) and then realized I don’t have static shield bags, more are coming tomorrow so it will be out and away tomorrow.

Yeah if you have some experience it’s definitely do-able, but not for the faint of heart. You’ll see in the pictures.

Ok, so here’s the pics. Basically the guy cut off the JST shroudings to make room for the KGND spots, and also removed the shrouding of the socket that attaches to the JLF header. He had to bend the JLF positions to fit once he socketed in the rest of the board down and to the left.

Interesting solution, but unless you know what you’re doing this is not really recommended since older sticks aren’t natively compatible.

Still a viable solderless solution. But then again, if you’re looking for solderless, you probably dont want to mess around with headers and pins lol

Hey phreakazoid, is there a way to tell if our pcb is too old to use without any additional modifications? Asking because I bought a madcatz round 1 te on ebay that’s shipping soon, but as of right now I don’t know if it has a revised pcb or the first gen pcbs.

Very unlikely to be a TE-S pcb unless it had previously been modified with one. A quick test would be to see if you can lock the ‘start’ & ‘back’ buttons. If you can then it contains a TE-S pcb. You can verify by opening up the stick and reading the code on the motherboard.

Only TE-S motherboards are compatible with a fully assembled Cerberus boards, otherwise you will need to do a lot of soldering or what was done in the TE stick posted above.

Ok thanks gahrling.

I just performed my first dual mod with this board. It was very easy to install with help from your guide. It works great. Thanks phreakmods!

So, Brawlsticks are not compatible according to the first post. Does that mean only for the easy install or all installs? I want to get a circuit board for PS3 compatibility and don’t mind doing soldering instead of the easy install.

Only for the easy install. A cut down Cerberus board is compatible with every common ground PCB I can think of.

I can’t remember if you’re based in the UK or not, your name sounds familiar. If so then I can have a fresh cut down Cerberus sent to you. You won’t believe how small they are!

I’m in the US or I certainly would have taken you up on that offer.

^ Apologies for confusing you with someone else.

Do not let it stop you from enjoying your Cerberus.

Understood.

Can it handle 5 volts on the inputs instead of 3.3? From the data sheet it looks like that shouldn’t be a problem, but if anyone can confirm it’ll make me a little more confident planning out my mod.

The I/O are all 5v tolerant, you’re solid.

Awesome. Thanks.

Any tips for removing the ribbon cables for the SfxT fightstick pro? Been trying to remove them and install the cerberus in but I can only manage to get 2 off. I’ve never seen so much sticky gunk on it in my life.

Yeah that stuff can really be the hardest thing about a mod sometimes, lol.

When it’s too much to just pull the ribbon and break it, I use an exacto knife to cut in between where the header and connector kinda meet and then also use a really small flat head to help twist and pry the connector away from the header… at least enough to break the glue to a point that pulling it out works.

The worst thing you can do is pull on the ribbon too hard and pull the wire out of it’s crimp pin, so just be sure not to get too zealous with the ribbon cables.

Ended up being busy the last few days but your tips ended up helping out. Was my first mod attempt but thought you made it easy enough and sure enough the hardest part about the mod was only getting the ribbons out.
It works flawlessly.

Thanks Phreakazoid. Keep up the good work.

Awesome, I’m glad you’re up and running and that it was as easy of an install as I make it out to be

Hey Phreak, any ETA on when we might see analog support as a standard feature?
