Central PA thread (Harrisburg,York,Lancaster, other centralish areas)

Not bad, about a 40~ minute ride from me. Anyone interested in the earlier Marvels or Vampire Savior?

I’ve played MvC1 a lot as a kid and have dabbled in it on GGPO. MvC2 have less experience in and have only Darkstalkers series a bit. Might try out some more Darkstalkers tonight and throughout the week and see. I would personally be willing to learn them a bit more in depth. Can never have too many games to play.

A lot of the players are more focused on modern fighters with most of them having started with SF4 or MvC3. They will probably be interested in at least trying it, couldn’t say how many would be willing to put in the work for it though. Though we ran some SF3 the last meet up and a few people have picked it up and expressed interest in learning it. Not sure how many local players in this area play older titles but if we can get them out, I would completely support it.

Hello everybody, my name is Tenny and I am the TO over at my local game store Play N Trade located in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania. Specifically 3437 Simpson Ferry Rd, Camp Hill, PA 17011 it is in a Digiplex with a Cinema Center.

Play N Trade is a growing store that is better then other larger Video Game store chains in quite a few ways. 1, we have Retro games. 2, we have cheaper used games. 3, we give you more games for trade-ins. 4, we have a gaming center as you can see in the attached pictures. 5, we throw events like tournaments.

Tournaments like our 2nd Fighting Game Extravaganza which is 3 tournaments for 3 different games in one night. The Extravaganza is happening October 4th at 6pm and will go until it is finished, usually about 10pm.

The games in the Extravaganza will be decided by community vote. There is no limit on the games other than Fighting Games, We just need the capabilities of having a console set up, Preferably two console set ups for said game and it can most definitely happen. Follow this Facebook link to see what others voted for and vote yourself! You can also tell me your votes here.

The consoles used will vary since the games are being voted for and have not been decided yet. It is hard to say exactly what consoles will be used but if there is any cross platform games from the 360/PS3 era we will use 360 except for situations like BlazBlue Chrono Phantasma.

The Price to get in is probably the best part, it is only 10$* to get in if you Pre Register. Follow this PayPal link and you can Pre Register and save 5$*.

The payout is strictly based on how many people we can get to participate in the tournament(s). So, the more people we can get the bigger the payout.

We are close to the CPAFGC Facebook pagethat you see some nice people advertising on this thread. We are both working together to bring the FGC of Central PA together at last.

*There is a membership you can get with us that is 10$ a year. It comes with many benefits, like it will give you 10% more when you trade-in and 10% less when you buy used games, it is also cheaper to get into our events by 5$ and into our gaming center, you also get a free hour in our gaming center. Here you will find the preregister link for members.

Hopefully more people hop on this. We’ve gone from 3 ppl in the first meet to now having a good 10-15 ppl each meet. Pn1 has been gracious enough to allow us to do this out of his own garage. He just picked up 3 more xbox’s and I’ll be doing any work that’s needed on them. This is a great time. Nobody fighting or anything. Just a great group of guys having fun playing and learning. Offline is so much better than online fighting. Everyone there is more than happy to offer tips about how to up your game.

Hey I would like to come to the gathering this Saturday who do I need to talk to

We normally meet biweekly but unfortunately too many of us were busy this weekend. We were only expecting a small turn out so we figured we would just put it on hold for this week. Our next two meet ups will be Oct 11 and 25th, 6 pm to midnight. I organize and host the events. You can add me on facebook (visit the community page and add “Julien”) and I’ll send you invites to the events. I’m also obviously available here. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Ok thanks I don’t have a Facebook account I’ll just check this thread regularly from now on

Whoa, you’re right above me. My friends and I all live in central York city. They like Tekken, and I like basically every fighting game on the market. I know I have off work October 11. If I don’t work the 12th, I’ll see if my friends are interested in attending. We’d be happy to throw some money your way.

Absolutely. My friend Eric and I play 3rd Strike and MvC2 mostly, but I’m familiar with Vampire Savior and MvC1.

Sounds good, we could start building up a Tekken scene if they are interested. Picking up a CRT for older games, wouldn’t want JedahsMinistry’s eyes to burn on a HD display.

I have off this weekend, so I can definitely make your gathering. I couldn’t get ahold of my friend to see if he is interested because his schedule changes a bit. I’ve been practicing UMvC3 and I was born to play Street Fighter, so I should be in good shape. I’ll PM you my cell number so you can text me with more info.

Saturday is fight night (10/11) at 6 pm until midnight. If you haven’t gotten an invitation via facebook or a private message, please let me know.

Damn, looks like we’regoing to have a nice turn out this week.

When is the next meet up?

If I can get out I would like to swing by! What is considered appropriate behavior?

Also… Can I bring beer?

Yup, it’s BYOB. Will remain that way as long as we don’t have any issues. We usually have a couple people just coming out to drink and have a good time. The next meet up is Nov 8

As far as appropriate behavior, it’s a chill environment. Everyone who comes out is trying to build and support a local scene. We haven’t had any issues and everyone goes out of their way to try and make newcomers comfortable. Obviously losses/salt will happen but in the end, we’re all playing some games and just having a good time. I don’t expect I’ll have too much to worry about for this.

Hope this helps clarify a bit. If you have any questions, feel free to ask or PM me. I’ll send you the information via PM in a bit about contacting me directly as well as address.

I saw JedahsMinstry post this on Facebook. Looks really awesome!

I’d love to join for some games. Any one play ST or A2/3?

A few guys play 3S or are familiar with it

The games we primarily support are USF4 and UMvC3. We usually run a side tournament for Third Strike and have been working on building up interest in Vampire Savior, MvC 1 and 2. Lately some interest has been expressed in the new smash but unfortunately I don’t have the space to support a smash community outside of having one station.

At this time, we really don’t have much in gear for more dedicated retro stations. I also don’t want to pull a station that is currently running for VSav, MvC1 and MvC2. Just to put it into perspective, almost 100% of the setups are actually mine, purchased from my pocket for the community. I hope to be able to support more games but right now we’re more in a hardware limitation than anything.

Theres been some interest in possibly having workshops for players getting into different titles (especially retro) or even having a retro meetup schedule for just playing older games. I’m working as hard as I can to try and support all the interests of this community but we don’t have the backing of an actual arcade so it can be quite difficult. If any arcade owners in the area want to work with us, let me know! I will definitely take any suggestions for games you guys would like to see. Or really, any suggestions on how I can improve your experience or entice you to come join us!

I’m sure @JedahsMinistry‌ @nsreeder @swordstalker92‌ and anyone else who has been out can testify that I really want to support as many games as I can.

Over the next few months, I’m hoping to have more dedicated stations with great CRTs for retro games and EVO monitors for more modern games. At this point in time, I’m working on picking up an evo monitor and system each month for the next 6 months. This will hopefully allow us to keep growing as we have the space to support more people. Parking may be a different issue to tackle ;]

@‌ Sounds great! We really can’t expect one person to support an entire group by himself. I say stay focused on the more popular games. If other people have an interest in the more fringe games, allow them to bring their own setups.

I can’t tell you how to run it. Sounds like you have all this under control. I’ll try and make it out, probably not to the 8th. Moving is fun!

This Saturday (11/3) is Fight Night. If you’re interested in going, please let me know. I’ll get you set up with the details.

SO when is the next meet up?
