A friend of mine who is a lawyer just had this to say about it:
1) I did not watch 5 minutes of the Casey Anthony trial.
2) That said, it does not matter if you think she was guilty. Under our Constitution the burden rests solely and squarely on the government to prove each and every element of a crime beyond a reasonable doubt.
3) The jurors in this trial took an oath to listen to the evidence and follow the law.
4) They heard all the evidence, saw all of the exhibits and judged the credibility of each and every witness. Most likely, you did not.
5) You are free to disagree with their verdict, but the dramatics are unnecessary.
6) See #1 concerning my opinion of the verdict.
I told him to get that common sense bullshit out of here. There’ll be none of that in this house of rabble.

It’s morbidly amusing that one of those drunk party whores that propagate Facebook actually managed to beat a murder rap. That’s something of a milestone… an evolutionary milestone, even. Something something Idiocracy something.
The DA shouldn’t pursue a capital murder case when you have shaky evidence, the jury will throw the case back at you and the accused walks. That’s supposed to be what pre-trial formalities are supposed to sort out. If the evidence was that poor, pursue a lesser charge that will get the accused behind bars.

Prosecution did pursue all lesser charges, and none of them stuck (other than those misdemeanors that mean almost nothing). And this high profile of a case meant that the state pretty much had to try to convict Casey on something; they wanted 1st degree murder, but I’m sure they would’ve settled for manslaughter… they got nothing.

It’s pretty obvious they dun goofed up; even though it’s plainly clear to non-idiots she is at least somewhat responsible for the death, you can’t give out the death penalty without concrete evidence.

Technicalities also protect the innocent as well, sadly. It’s kind of retarded, but when you convict based solely on feelings of guilt rather than hard evidence there is a good chance of a lot of innocent people being convicted just for “looking guilty” or not being wrong place at the wrong time.
One thing I know about the case is there weren’t any forensics linking Casey to the crime. A hair that wasn’t proven to belong to the child, decomposing odor… that’s the best they had. I’m only guessing (as you are) what they felt was a good enough shot to go to trial… but capital murder? The OJ murder trial didn’t even pursue the death penalty, and in that case all that was missing from the body of evidence was a video tape.

Lol prosecution screwed up how the hell they didn’t know the cause of death , if they somehow proved she did it from a autopsy then we could’ve looked at a different verdict. Crazy how obvious it was and yet a murderer is walking away free.
