Click here for last years tournament list (we had over 1,400 attendees)

This year we are hoping to break 2,000 attendees. I hope you guys will join us!

I MIGHT come to this. Why have GG XX Slash now that accent core is out though? Might wanna update that.

Good point, those tournament lists are from last year and I will do my best to get Accent Core added to this years tournament list. Did they work out the bugs from the jap ps2 version when localizing it for the US PS2 release?

yep. US version is 99% arcade perfect.

I picked up the US PS2 version, but I have a question. Was talking to a friend and he really enjoyed the Wii version… I think I already know the answer to this question but what would you all prefer? Wii Accent Core or the PS2 version.

Console Tournaments were announced today!

Looks like a good line up… Hope this year brings in a good crowed…

I’m so pumped! Last year was fantastic, but I know this year is going to be so much better as evidenced by the lineup of tourneys and speakers. Also, it’s not just the size of the crowd, but the quality. I don’t like asses at the event. Makes for bad memories.

Our initial press release went out today. Don’t worry a new one dedicated just to tournaments will go out shortly!

The Carolina Games Summit, formerly known as the Goldsboro Gaming Expo, will be held 10 a.m.-9 p.m. on Saturday, January 26, 2008 at Wayne Community College. Tickets are available to the public for $10 each and may be purchased online or at the door. The event includes industry speakers, video game tournaments, live music, exhibition booths and educational sessions. An exciting mix of fun, academic opportunities and career exploration has been created for students, aspiring game developers, educators and professionals alike.

Last year’s summit doubled in size over the inaugural year, attracting over 1,400 participants to compete in 18 tournaments and experience more than 20 speakers from a variety of game development firms and educational institutions. To build on this phenomenal growth, organizers have added bands such as Select Start to recreate theme songs from popular games using classical instruments. In addition, students and budding game developers will have the chance to display their work in the newly created student showcase room.

Hands-on training sessions will also be a first at the next Carolina Games Summit, where seasoned game development professionals and college educators will lead tutorials on how to use game content creation tools including Adobe PhotoShop, Autodesk Maya and leading game engine software. A range of presenters including corporate executives, creative leaders and educators have committed to unveil business strategies, development techniques and more at the event.

Distinguished speakers include:

Alexander Macris, Co-Founder, President, CEO - Themis Group, Durham, NC

Bruce Shankle, Senior Software Development Engineer, DirectX Microsoft Game Studios, Redmond, WA

David Sipple, President Music Wizard Group, Longmont, CO

Dana Cowley, Public Relations Manager - Epic Games, Cary, NC

Joel Gonzales, Engineer - 1st Playable Productions, Troy, NY

Attendees may participate in sponsored tournaments and enjoy unlimited free play on full-size classic arcades as well as the latest consoles and computer gaming systems. Outdoor attractions include the U.S. Army Mission Support Battalions “Adventure Van,” a unique simulation system contained in an 18-wheel tractor-trailer, and the Panasonic Living in HD flagship truck, which includes the worlds largest plasma TV, all 103 of it.

Is Jinmaster in any way associated with the tournament again?

We are not outsourcing our 2d fighters this year. Also we are limiting the number of players to 64, so that one tournament does not cause all the others to run long.

Also note that the tournaments are included with the venue fee! I am working very hard to secure a sponsor for each tournament. That way we will have cash and prizes to give away on top of the custom plaques the top 3 winners will be receiving.

Look for a press release on prizes sometime January.

I hate to be a dick but could you please list a pay out of the fighters? Sorry I would be coming from ct for this where there is vf5 I will be there

If you pre-order tickets we have a completely different entrance for you to come into. There should be a very short line or no line on that side of the building.

I will have to check on the prizes for VF5 that is being run by a league and they have not given me a complete list of prizes as of yet.

I can tell you all this year we are going back to our first year strategy which was to charge a low entrance fee and NO tournament fees. So you just pay $10 to get in the door and can enjoy the entire event. We will have a limit on how many tournaments you can enter but if something does not max out you can actually add it over your limit.

The event is 3 weeks from today so keep an eye on the website for serious updates on prizes and general event info.

I can say we will actually have television commercials for this event this year so I expect our attendance to be much more than last year!

Sooo what kind of prizes would it be if its no tourney fees? Doesn’t seem like prize money at all. lolz

Well, he said that VF5 at least is being run by some kind of league.

Does that mean the prize money will be contributed by the sponsors for these touranments?

Well if everything is free, I’ll be going and entering everything. Hope to see you guys there!

Sponsors and Partners contribute all prizes. I still do not have the prize list for Tekken 5 and VF5 which are both hosted by an up and coming league. I have worked very hard to secure prize money for some of the tournaments but it has been an interesting couple of months and I have not been able to secure as much money as I would have liked.

Really this event is designed to appeal to gaming junkies who just love gathering with thousands of other games to prove they can beat them all down and be recognized for it in a big fully produced awards ceremony.

I can guarantee every tournament will have plaques for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd that have a really nice graphic from the game itself as well as our logo and the sponsors logo if the tournament was sponsored.

If you are coming just for the money you might want to reconsider, if you are coming for a good time then by all means come.

We will have a good amount of freeplay arcades for MvsC, MvsC2, Street Fighter II Turbo (Hyper Edition), Mortal Kombat 1 and 2, Tekken 3, and other old school 2D fighters.

So besides the plaques, what are the other prizess for winning like the 2d fighter tourneys?

I’ll be attending mainly for the actual convention, considering I’m still tryin to get a job in the industry when I graduate. I’ve spent way to many nights cursing at my keyboard at 2 AM while programming to let it go to waste.

If they’re holdin touraments:
-All 3D games
-GG^Core
-3S

A stuffed animal dude. Do not go, I beg of you.

yeah I’ve seen that same shit on the prerequisites of every game design company’s home website. Like some catch22 shit. They “highly suggest” a degree in Computer Science but they also want “at least 2 years exp. and I shipped game, etc.” aka the job your looking for.

however I did hear that EA isn’t hard to work for and they start at about 95k. But I also heard they treat their employees like shit, w/ no benefits. So for the time being I’m mainly lookin at:
Epic Games, Rockstar San Diego or NYC, Incognito and Atlus. as one of the main companies I wanna try to work for. Worse case scenario I’m just tryin to get my foot through the door when I get my degree. Currently tryin to get an internship at Epic Games over the summer, because one of my friends is a good friend of CliffyB, I’ll see how that works out…
