Capcom Says Japanese Game Companies Are 5 Years Behind

Fuck you Specs, Chrono Trigger was the shit and I would still play it today if given a choice btw that and these other corny ass games you guys enjoy.

Edit: Wtf is a western JRPG? Wild Arms?

oh boy…here we go.

I’m not even gonna bother jumping into the whole JRPG vs. WRPG argument because I’ve seen both arguments and all it is is just a matter of preference on whether you want to be told a story or you want the story to mold around you. If the meaning of ‘Japanese companies being 5 years behind’ means that they don’t try to ‘westernize’ every damn thing they have then in all honesty I’d rather them stay 5 years behind.

So it’s finally ‘okay’ to complain how SFIV’s mechanics tie your fingers in a knot? Good. I’ve been saying that since 2008

ROTFL! Yeah 'cause MK9 is really going to show’em how its done…

And by that, i mean yet another crappy, disposable fighter in the MK series whose only real selling point in the end will be nostalgia.

Mk fans and their sad, unwavering faith that the latest game will bring the franchise back to “greatness” and not end up bargin bin trash…

You aren’t the only one.

I didn’t knock Chrono Trigger, I knocked Chrono Cross.

Okay, well, I suppose by dissing Masato Kato I indirectly dissed it, but Chrono Trigger wasn’t just written by Kato; he did the shitty parts of the game (Zeal, anything and everything to do with Zeal) but other writers masterminded the other, better parts of the game.

If by “western” you mean “cowboys and guns,” then yeah, Wild Arms.
If you mean “a JRPG-style game made by a non-Japanese developer,” then… Black Sigil, to name one example.

Dr. B’s ideal JRPG involves Jesus and Cthulhu killing Dissidia Terra while fighting alongside FF6 Terra.

Hating on halo isn’t fashionable hell microsoft has been recycling the same burly super soldier for two consoles Gears and Halo are very similar.I mean halo 2 almost directly copied levels from halo 1. The ending of halo 3 was the ending of halo 1 . The game they showed the most growth was in halo reach storyline wise.

I wonder did you ever seriously play sf3 at all. HD REMIX was a slight upgrade of a tried and true classic that nobody was complaining about. There are tons of great fighters out there made in japan. I wonder do you play them or do you just rag on them because you think its funny and cool.

I mean every western rpg or fps has humanity as jesus or as the chosen race. Mass EFFECT,HALO,. Its odd that in Mass Effect the only competent race is then galaxy . Everybody else with all there massive amounts of technology and powers can’t do jack shit except .

On the same hand, a lot of people on this very site would bitch and whine about developers making it a bit more easier to become decent at fgs by taking out one frame links. And yeah, consumers like the same shit, so they get the same shit. Over, and over again.

Hahaha

Keiji Inafune must have finally gotten the chance to play SF4.

Understatement of the year.

You oversimplified to the point of stating an outright falsity. Whether you like a game or not there is no need to lie so try thinking before you post.

It sounds like you’re saying most fps are too similar and if that’s what you’re saying then you’re wrong not as opinion but as fact.

Once again you’re wrong as a matter of fact on both points. FPS don’t use the same formula most of the tone, game play mechanics, and strategy especially at higher levels are unique from each other. The second part of your post makes no sense at all so an action game is less of a game because it’s not a platformer?

I’m the opposite, jrpgs don’t interest me anymore because they cater to little kids and/or young teenagers who get off on power fantasies. Whether you like w or jrpgs more the fact is the writing for wrpgs show they have a more adult audience in mind which is not better or worse but does show the east and west ways of thinking are complete opposites.

QFT. Unfortunately everyone will ignore your post because it makes sense and is true.

Gears characters and master cheif are nothing alike you need to take some anti hallucinatory meds if you think the 2 are comparable or maybe you’re just an immature person who can’t comprehend differentiation so you lump different people and things in the same category for convenience sake.

You apparently never played hd remix nor have you ever been in the forum because everyone in the community will tell you that while hdr is not a drastically differrent game overall, the dozens of game play changes so significantly alter quite a few matchups.

The last part of your post indicates I’ve been trying to logically rebut someone who hasn’t passed 3rd grade.

You know i like both types of RPG’s but i hate when they do stupid things that negate a mission.
For instance, the Tenpenny Tower mission in Fallout 3. If you get the good karma and allow the mutates to live with the residents of the tower, if you go back later on, the mutates apparently slaughter the people in the tower anyways and negate the agreement. WTF is the point of doing this if this is gonna be the end result?

If this thread is any indication it seems those on the wrpg camp don’t like to use logic or reason but instead argue on false or irrelevant grounds. Anyways I don’t think most people here even read the article, it’s true technically the japanese market is dominating everyone and everything with wii which is the biggest gaming success ever, sony and MS’s next consoles won’t have wii’s success that much I’m sure we can all agree on given sales numbers of wii and it’s games.

Outside of wii though eastern developers are very behind because 99% of the shit they have been coming out with in the past few years is the same shit they’ve been coming out with 10 or even 15 years ago. I can name so many eastern games available in recent years that would be at home in some form on previous consoles whereas I can name so many games from U.S. now that would have never been possible on previous consoles and I’m sure the financial hits japan is taking will kick their ass into gear and change with the times or they’ll all go out of business.

I agree with this, I don’t think people realise it’s actually the game mechanics that have made past halo seem turd like, because call of duty came out of world war 2 and gave us the ability to run people who went back to halo thought “wtf?!” halo has some nice game play elements, it’s a completely different game to most FPS games because it’s an FPShoot em’ up

as for Jrpg’s- I think the fact Wrpg’s thrive on DARKNESS VS LIGHT talk just show’s how western imagination pales in comparison to the beauty you could find in most Jrpg’s. now yeah most of them these days are terrible but the good ones are so good because it brings you in a new world, western RPG’s are one thousand variations of lord of the rings.

and to be honest im just gonna come out with it, western developers have been innovating for since the dawn of time, it’s just because of the lame graphics we had in the past weren’t enough to distract you from the slow witted gameplay. also we have been fed up to the nose with japanese ideas so it seems like they aren’t innovating. the truth is we need a new culture to feed us content. you may see these as just games but that’s because most of us are lost in this stupid belief that school (western thought) teaches us everything there is to know about life

Armchair game designers and wannabe gaming journalists of the internet, eat your heart out.

For having an opinion? Can’t you express an opinion without immature name calling? What does that accomplish? Animosity isn’t good for the soul. I consider a Western JRPG as western developed game that plays like an RPG. Examples being Shadow Madness and Septerra Core. On an overall game subject both sides rehash things over and over. I do see both sides of the story if they’re trying to focus on one little detail. I hear Japan doesn’t take much input most of the time.

It’s funny that these journalist constantly overlook the handheld market which has overtook the consoles sales in Japan when making these kinds of claims.

Hm, they quoted Shadow of Rome as an example of a Western game that flopped. That’s a shame becasue I thought that game was fun as hell.

Infinite: They are talking about their games not selling in foreign markets. It just sounds likes stubborn japanese game makers who only want to cater to their own “supreme race”.

And yes they are right, alot of jrpg’s have really really awkward storylines even without translation.

Also In before japanaphiles defend japan even though the sales don’t lie.

Because Japanese games other than stuff made by nintendo for the wii is selling well?

awkward storyline? jesus christ- “god forbid a strange story for it will poison my mind” yes it will poison your mind but it could also teach it a thing or two if you actually exercised it, that’s what we’re supposed to be doing, using mediums to broaden our minds hopefully, not hear another version of a tired tale- why?

I feel like im being a bastard today  sorry

Pardon my quote then. But couldn’t the same go for here though?
