Capcom Fighting Jam thread

This game isn’t bad but isn’t omfg awesome either, its playable and seems fairly balanced (for now) imo cvs2 is better/more solid although alot of people hate that game hah.

Sofar I’ve played around with Bison, Jedah, Karin, and Ryu.

Ryu doesn’t seem too good; slow fireballs, slow super, the only thing that he seems to have is that forward+fierce move.

Jedah gets owned when he’s rushed down or ran away from since he doesn’t have a real projectile, and its difficult to do any kind of morrigan cvs2 style rushdown with him. He also doesn’t have a sweep! but if you manage to get them down the ex wheel opens up some opportunies.

Bison seems like standard cvs2/ST bison his standing roundhouse moves about as fast or faster then his forward heh. super psycho crusher eats projectile(supers) it seems. Very solid except maybe against projectile characters.

Karin  seems to have the stupidly good priority on most stuff from a3 super easy custom which i think was pretty difficult to do in a3 since it didn’t let you cancel normals into normals, i don’t see much change from her a3 version except maybe her crossup is easier to do since cfj engine still feels kinda strange…

I kinda like Guy…how does he play? I’m just curious cuz Guy’s always been my favorite ever since the leet final fight days.

Ingrid > ST characters

IT DIDNT SUCK IN GLAMORAMA, same with bolero. Ellis is pretty smart no?

Darkstalkers are tight.

Demitri ownz all and fear no one!!! hahhaah…hopefully

So far i think the game is worth playing and i’m gonna like it even more when i’ve own u guys…

It’s gonna be on XBox live??? if there’s no lag…i’m buying the game for xbox…

P.S CFJ > Halo2 hahaha…

That by far is one of stupidest comments i have ever seen written on srk.

Fuck that shit, CAPCOM is eternal, I mean think about what you are saying and compare it to your precious 3d games. Not to be dogging on any other 3d gamers, This is only directed towards ZIGGY’s lack of analysis. Street Fighter II Turbo is still being played competivily, as well as Alpha 3, Third strike, and many other different Capcom Titles with very similar yet unique fighting systems and styles. Where as your random ass 3d games Tekken, Soul calibar, and Virtua Fighter are seemingly dead in the US. Might it be because of a lack of interest in the game Hell Yeah!!! those games are completley too random and the simplest of simpeltons can win by pushing many many different buttons at the same time due to a random ass ring out or something ugly like that. How can a scene be dead when we vastly outnumber the 3d community aproximatly 8 to 1 in Kicks alone. Actually scratch that 87 to one (rob muthafuckin plummer) you should not hate on how a so called dead community is “dead” I mean take a look at your precious games, Tekken: Dead because of your own uglieness in 5, you all let one game completley kill your community, where as with us (3d gamers) we don’t let a bad version of a game (ie Chaos, street fighter ex, or something else random as hell) we just move on and play a better version of it, much like how all of you should have kept Tag alive, because that game is tight, except i get owned by Paris and Rick, but I will own anybody else that I know. Tekken has been dead for the past two years because of 4 and your last gleem of hope is T5 and i hear is it pretty fun. However don’t talk about dead until you look at the other games you all have, Soul Calibar: DEAD, Virtua Fighter: DEAD (was there really any real life of it in Washington) Mortal Kombat: Dead only because it went 3d. I mean shit our scene is not dead we just have to get better at what we have been doing for the longest time anyways.

I own Kyle in Tekken. :razzy:

Periods and paragraphs are also your friend.

Kyle-Sorry guy, but that’s a lot of bullshit.

ST’s tourney scene doesn’t really seem to exist outside of majors. When was the last time we even had a local one? And Alpha 3 is still played competetively? Uhm, do you pay ANY attention to all the controversy that game gets? Every time someone has tried to revive Alpha 3, it fails miserably.

VF has no real community in the US, I agree with you on that. But while SC is dying overall, it’s still managed to get larger turnouts than the 2d games for the past few Lanwerx tournies (which is pretty disgusting).

The Tekken community is huge. Only reason it’s been dead for so long is 'cause T4 sucked ass. Come on, you’re old enough to have witnessed Tag’s success. Tag and MvC2 more or less carried the US arcade industry for a few years back in their day.

While the 2d scene is still going, Street Fighter as a game franchise is now dead, unless Capcom goes back on making CFE their last 2d fighter. And let’s be honest, our local Capcom scene isn’t really growing (3rd Strike seems to be the exception; PS2 release helps a LOT). 2d players outnumber 3d 8 to 1? Back when Marvel could get 30+ players and SC2 barely had 12, sure. But what happened to all those 2d players? You need to attract new people to make up for those who stop playing, and CFE isn’t going to do that.

When have you ever moved on to a “superior” game to keep a scene alive? You only say that 'cause there are no new 2d fighters these days. Marvel’s on the decline, so how are you goint to save that? Go back to MvC1 for variety’s sake? If CvS2 dies, is CFE the answers? Sure seems like a step back in my opinion, as there’s a lot less there to work with.

And what about you? How often do you make it out to play these days? I’m running the tourney scene for TWO communities right now, so please don’t lecture me about failing to keep a scene alive. Frankly, you seem pretty hypocritical, but I don’t keep tabs on your life, so I can’t make that judgement in earnest.

I have read through some of this thread and while debates about other games is being discussed here everyone posting should try to stay on topic. If you would like to discuss something outside of Capcom Fighting Jam/Evolution, do it in another thread. If you want to discuss 2d vs 3d or why people don’t play certain games in tourneys, etc. Create another thread for it.

Thank You

Whose to say that Tekken 5 will do that for 3D fighters?

I think people may be forgetting that fighting games as a whole are dying, not just 2D.

Honestly, how many people besides SRK posters do you see play fighting games at lanwerx? Not very many, and if they do it’s just to play it for 2 minutes, which involves constantly spinning the stick in a circle, and mashing on fierce punch 6 times in one second. Honestly I think you’d find the same sort of “new players” (only for those 2 minutes they play) playing new 3D games.

I don’t understand the arguement about how CFE is already on console, whereas Tekken isn’t. Tekken comes out in February. That’s really not THAT far away. Looking at coinopexpress, a Tekken 5 machine (cabinet and kit) costs six thousand dollars. Granted I’m sure whatever scene there is for the game wants to get started playing it right away, however, is it really worth Siu Wai buying a kit and cabinet for it that comes out to consoles in two months?

Whether or not Wizard was playing it single player or against GOOD opponents, I don’t know. I also know that having to play a game 8 or more hours a day for weeks at a time can make you dislike the game. I’m not saying that’s the case here, but I imagine it could factor in. It’s not exactly fair to a fighting game to review it and make judgement of how good or bad it is literally weeks after it comes out.

I talked to Tony today, he says that the chance of getting CFE isn’t entirely out of the question.

EDIT: Sorry Gerald, but I started typing this before you wrote that.

i will admit 2d fighters are better than 3d fighters…but what really makes me get into a fighting game is the amount of people that play it…for example king of fighters is not a real competitive game like mvc2. so of course lots of people are gonna be into that over kof. i love tekken and i put it on the side because more people around my area are into 2d fighters over the 3d. basically what im saying is that i play all fighters but i focus on the most popular ones…cause i like play competitively

Edit: Sent this via PM after reading Gerald’s post.

I played this game for the first time last night. I have to say that I’m quite disappointed as far as “street fighter” gameplay. My biggest annoyance was that Street Fighter 2 characters play more like their CvS2 renditions than themselves. Also, Third Strike characters play nothing like Third Strike characters.
I can, however, appreciate the game as an integrative experiment with characters and playing techniques from across various series. In my opinion, Darkstalkers characters are all that make this game worthwhile. I like the idea of having Anakaris interact with other capcom characters and actually standing a fair chance unlike in MvC2. I figure if the characters I’m less familiar with retain their charm and freshness, I can see myself enjoying the game. If not, then I’ll probably just lump it in with CvS2 as an uninteresting adaptation of SF2.

Also, count me in with everyone who says the squid should catch Chlamydia and die. Worst character in years.

I dont know if people keep up with the japanese CFE site but I was randomly going through my favorites and I saw that they had a new video up. It has some crazy combos! :xeye:

To see it just go to this site and click on the 6th tab over (it should say “New” above it) The first video is the newest one, clicking on “next” will take you to the second one which is a more in depth look at the different game systems, and the last one is the oldest, it is just the CFE trailer.

Anyone know if anyone going to play CFJ in San Jose

…this is the Northwest forum.O_o You’d probably want Pacific North for San Jose.

These are more japanese tournament matches, just like the first ones I posted up, but more recent. The first 2 sections are the new stuff, and the last 2 are the older stuff I already posted. There seems to be a good amount of Yun and Kenji being played in these videos. It really shows the potential in these characters, especially with the misconception that Yun sucks.

http://carol.sakura.ne.jp/fightingjam_movie.html

(Bolded ones are the ones I thought were good.)

f4-1-1 Yun/Leo - Jedah
f4-2-1 Leo/Yun - Kenji
f4-3-1 Kenji - Jedah
f4-4-1 Yun/Leo - Ryu/Jedah (a good Leo)
f4-5-1 Demitri/Kenji - Guy/Hauzer
f4-6-1 Jedah/Yun - Ryu/Demitri (this is a good match, players are good with their characters)
f4-7-1 Kenji - Yun/Karin (Karin just keeps the pressure on! Although this Kenji player is really good at… winning. Haha you’ll see.)

f3-1-1 Leo/Yun - Ryu/Kenji (good Leo - Same guy as above)
f3-2-1 Ryu - Kenji (really good match, good Ryu and Good Kenji)
f3-3-1 Ryu - Sakura/Urien (Sakura and Urien!! Great to see variety.)
f3-4-1 Ryu - Ingrid
f3-5-1 Leo/Yun - Jedah (again a good Leo)
f3-6-1 Yun - Sakura (A pretty good Yun, great Yun stuff, even a very nice combo on the last match)
f3-7-1 Kenji/Jedah - Sakura/Urien

Yun’s definately better than his CvS2 version, which is good enough for me.
