The game is still new, and I’ll probably not get a chance to play it during the week, but so far it looks to be not completely shitty.
I’ve only really used Gief, Ryu, Sak, and Rose.
Gief is the best version of him in years in terms of damage. A Jab SPD does about the same damage as Alpha 3 A-Gief’s Fierce SPD… and it has crazy range; lariats are pretty much invincible; FAB is mad damage, ARS grabs really close to the ground. He has trouble with Guile and Jedah AFAIK.
Ryu has no hopkick, but he has a rush punch. His supers are Shinkuu Hadouken and Shinshoryuken. He can combo specials off of low roundhouse (just in case ppl were wondering, since he couldn’t in A3), but I don’t know about supers. He just seems like a standard Ryu to me.
Sakura has a full-screen fireball again. Her hurricane kick has the automatic extra kick no matter what - i.e. if you do the motion for the hurricane kick, it ends with that sidekick, which is a knockdown. CCs should theoretically be the same as from CvS2, but the timing is just incredibly tight. I first thought that you couldn’t cancel the same move into itself, but apparently you can… you just have to have god-like timing at this stage (however, in about 6 months or so in Japan, everyone will most likely have god-like timing).
Rose is fun. Her B&B combo (some jabs, c.strong, Short Drill) is easy, it sets up a knockdown, and is safe if blocked (AFAIK). She has great range with s.roundhouse, and her Jab Reflect gives you 17% meter when you absorb a fireball. Her CC is like Mai’s. I do slides with some fierces mixed in. I’m messing with inserting a c.roundhouse and doing c.fierce to juggle and a slide for forward movement, since keeping the opponent on the ground allows them to mash on super and kill you in case one of your moves is a half second off (and timing is strict). It seems possible, I’m just not used to it yet. Using drills for advancement does NOT seem possible, but I haven’t messed with it yet… it may just be a timing issue, or I may need to change the juggling hits. Using jumping hits midscreen doesn’t seem to work, but maybe I just haven’t found the right thing to use. J.Strong seemed to completely whiff…
General tidbits:
A Double KO results in a win for both people.
If you get hit during your CC, you lose ALL your meter, regardless of when you got hit.
It does not seem possible to hit confirm supers (e.g. Chun Li can super off of c.forward, but it needs to be immediate).
CCs have shit invincibility windows. However, you can activate at 50%, so maybe it’s a fair trade? I’m going to try and combo a super FB with Rose in the corner, activate, juggle, and end with a super. If it works, it’ll make Rose even MORE fun.
Don’t ask me any questions. Anything I know, I’ll post… but I doubt I’ll have time to play. Ask someone else in Japan.
