Can't select widescreen

I’ve got a 60 in. sony hd 1080 tv, and for some reason, it won’t allow me to even select the widescreen option. I know the tv has wise screen support, because I’ve used it when watching television. Any logical reason this isn’t working?

Is your XB360 set to 1080p? If you are using composite or S-Video, you wouldn’t even be able to select an HDTV setting (which is what games use to determine if you have HDTV capability).

The widescreen aspect ratio should be default on HDR too.

How do I set it to 1080p? and what’s a composite or S-video? I’m starting to think this should probably be in the tech thread

What kind of cables do you use to connect to your XB360? If it is 3 cables (yellow, red, white) you are feeding standard definition into your XB360. If it is 5 cables (red, green, blue, red, white), then you are using component and you now have the ability to change your HDTV settings (in the setup menu).

I’d ask if you were using HDMI or VGA, but I really doubt it.

Yeah, cables were my first guess.

Yeah, I was using the hd cables but had no idea I had to switch the settings on my xbox. Didn’t even know the settings existed. Thanks for the help guys.

By the way, does anyone know what settings evo is using this year? I assume they’re not using widescreen, but under 1080i, the alternative is having the black bars on the side, which is also unappealing.
