Can't make Xmen vs SF codes work

Hi I finally was able to get X-men vs. Streetfighter to work on my Linux using xmame :lovin:
But I’ve never been able to make all these arcade codes to work even from the times when I was experimenting on Windows XP. What am I doing wrong or do I have the wrong rom version? I have the Euro version.
X-Men Vs. Street Fighter (Euro 960910)
Should I maybe use these versions instead if I want to access all the codes?
X-Men Vs. Street Fighter (US 961004)
X-Men Vs. Street Fighter (Asia 961023)

Here’s the text file I found about all the codes

1. Play as the Same Character
Enter the random selection code, and if you can make it stop on the highlighted character, the highlight will remain there, enabling you to select the same character twice. This does some strange things to the life bars, so be careful. It may also screw up the palette for one of the characters on the selection grid, but this will not effect game play.

2. Rogue’s Hidden Win Pose
To view another win pose, you must first make sure that one of your characters is Rogue. Then, you need to beat the opponent with Rogue. Don’t use a Team Super to do this! Then, before Rogue does her win pose, hold all three punches or kicks. Rogue will turn around and give you a nice view of her butt!

3. Play as Alpha Chun-Li
At the character select screen, highlight Chun-Li, hold the START button and press any action button to choose Chun-Li in her Street Fighter Alpha costume.

4. Dismember Apocalypse
To dismember Apocalypse, perform a Double-Team (using the primary partner) while he clings to life. If successful all that will be left will be his head and an arm!
Note: You must have Akuma as your secondary partner.

5. Extra Hits on Super Combos
While doing a super combo, slide your hand back and forth on the buttons pressing the same strength punch and kick simultaneously. Do this as fast as you can. 95% of the time you’ll only get a few more hits but if you do it perfectly you can get a lot more.

6. Play as Shadow
To play as the Shadow, highlight Dhalsim on the character selection screen. Now hold the joystick UP for at least 10 seconds, then tap JAB, PUNCH and FIERCE PUNCH.

7. 99-hit Super Combo
While player one is doing is super combo, have player 2 join in. The number of hits will keep going up until it reaches 99.

8. Play as Akuma
At the character select screen, highlight Magneto, Juggernaut, Dhalsim, or M.Bison and press Up. Akuma’s picture box will appear.

9. Change Costume Color
To wear a different colored costume, choose a character by hitting a punch button (for dark colors) or a kick button for bright ones.

10. Random Character Selection
Highlight one of the leftmost characters (Sabretooth, Wolverine, etc.) or the rightmost characters, then press and hold the joystick away from the selection grid.

11. Kick Them When They’re Down
Press Start when you win a round. You can now walk around and beat up the character on the ground.

I only managed to make these work for sure:

But I want to do these:
10. Random Character Selection

1. Play as the Same Character
2. Play as Shadow

When I do no.10 and let go of the left button it goes back to, for example Wolverine which is where I started. And if I instead do the random selection thingy and press a button which selects some other character I can’t make it select the same character. What could I be doing wrong?

And when doing no.6 where I pull up on Dhalsim I just end up selecting Akuma.
But I still try to wait over 10 second and either press jab>medium punch>fierce punch or all 3 buttons at the same time. But I can’t make it work.

Has anyone done these codes sucessfully, could you maybe give me some extra pointers?

Well at least could you help me with the
1. Play as the Same Character
trick, that one I’m sure exist since I’ve seen videos of it on Combovideos.com

Yeah, for 10, you just don’t let go of the stick. Simple.

As for selecting the same character, it’s all in the timing. You can see what pattern of characters the random select follows, you just have to learn the timing of when to press the button to get the same character.

Timing ey! The should really say this more clearly in all the xmvsf codes that’s out there on the net.
Anyhow I’ll practice seeing the patterns it will be a fun challenge.
