The Cammy changes article specifically says that Cammy’s head is vulnerable throughout the Spinning Backfist. So, since you’re dealing with Dictator’s Head Stomp, he’s targeting the very part of you that’s vulnerable.
So, like Syxx said, only a Spin Drive Smasher will get you out of that situation if you have no life left.
hmm well i’m pretty sure he’s talking about the fireballs in that case… but ya slow fireballs on wakeup own it like i said… don’t ask me why just a hit box thing… it shoudl work but it doesn’t
This is how I face Guile, though he is my most hated matchup next to Honda. Nevertheless, I’ve played great against some good Guiles (I managed to beat Irrepressible in one round but he still won the match).
When the match starts, block quickly to avoid a Flash Kick
Move back and forth and avoid booms by jumping straight up
Get within sweeping distance and just crouch. The moment you feel a boom coming, Hooligan -> I managed to catch Irrepressible by surprise with Hooligans
Bait a wakeup Flash Kick by walking straight up and then crouching last-second
Guile spams booms alot so get comfortable with walking forward and then going right into a knuckle without stopping (this might be my biggest problem)
You need to have EXCELLENT technical skills for this match. And that’s always a problem for me because I use the crummy 360 pad. Ah well, practice makes perfect.
it’s not 100% reliable trust me, and it’s not because the move isn’t coming out, because she starts the animation. Sometimes it works, sometimes it won’t, if a meaty fireball is gonna kill you and you don’t have super it’s worth going for every time.
There are a couple of frames of invulnerability at the start that’ll let you get away with it against any meaty projectile if it’s going to hit you at the back, but afterwards Cammy’s head is vulnerable and some projectiles are high enough to hit it before Cammy leaves the ground. Ken’s is probably the worst in that regard.
Got 2 questions. I feel weird asking because Ive played 100’s of matches with Cammy. But I feel like these few things are never consistent for me. Anyway…
When getting crossed-up you block the direction your opponent is going land, right?
Wake-up and reversal Front Kick. When exactly do I perform the kick on wake-up?
Just seems like these moves will only work 50% of the time, and I need them to take my Cammy to the next level.
Not always. It totally depends on the hitboxes of the move being used and the spacing of the move. Hence the term “ambiguous crossup”. This is something you pretty much have to get a feel for. Maybe turning on hitboxes in training mode will help, too.
Hmmm…that’s actually something I may end up including in my Cross-up, Link, and Combo FAQ someday. Maybe. Possibly…but probably not this year.
The last frame of her getting up animation. With characters that like to “kick-up” into their stance, Cammy being one of them, the best way to tell when the last frame is happening…look at their feet. When they land on their feet, they’re usually either on the frame or one…maybe two…frames away from that reversal window.
If you need a visual, though, record one of your matches. If you get knocked down in that match, pause the recording and go through her getting up animation frame by frame. You’ll see that the reversal frame looks like her “landing from a jump or getting ready to jump” animation.
For more information on that, it’s all about that Street Fighter tutorial that David Sirlin did.
She would have made it one way or the other, keits has a really strong cammy and the final match came down to him vs me, and I managed to top him. AKA has a super strong cammy and more knowledgeable on matchups then me but somehow didn’t know about the qualifier until it was too late.
Its been a while! Anyway, you should all know I lost a really close match 3-2 to Chagathal’s Honda (one of the best) the other night. I’m pretty damn pleased. I was looking around for this but saw nothing, so:
What do I do against Vega? I’ve been playing Sharizord’s Vega alot lately, and I’m totally puzzled. His damn cr. mp totally beats drills, and it has enough reach that it can punish safe drills sometimes. Can’t jump or I eat his backflip. What’s a good opener? How do I get my ground-game going?
Ditto for Bison. His attacks are fast so I find it unsafe to walk forward, as you can get hit with scissor kicks outta nowhere. I find myself turtling too much to Front Kick a headstomp, but my reflexes are too slow sometimes. Ideas?
I’ve been using this combo alot and it works like a friggin’ charm (was killing Hondas with it especially): j. lk > st./cr. mp > (cr. short) > Hooligan. You can keep the cr. short out if you want, or if it makes the combo too complicated. Why is it that sometimes the opponent can react before the Hooligan, but sometimes they’re stuck in their block animation? Is the cr. short into Hooligan always locking the enemy into a block animation or not?
Anyone else constantly getting hit by Ken and Chun’s FB’s when they try to knuckle through them? For whatever reason my knuckles kept eating their damn FB’s…don’t know why (maybe because they are even slower??)
Finally…what to do against Blanka? I find myself jumping alot with mp to bait a vertical roll, but then I always fall victim to his j. lk > tick throw bite.
I read S-Kill say that with Cammy’s newly tweaked moveset, she has definitely made it to mid-tier, and only time would tell if she had crept up to top-tier. Does anyone know Cammy’s tier ranking in this game?? I know she’s not dead last like she used to be (thank god) lol
I could tell you a few things for this that I, as a Blanka player have a difficulty getting around.
Alternate rapid c.lk and c.lp. You’ll stop balls, slides, and hops.
As for the j.lk shit, learn to react and canon spike, and also s.mp works against crossups. against crossups, hooligan is a good way to get her out of there safely. If i crossup, rmemeber, i don’t have the charge to punish it, so it will get you out of stupid shit.
I’ve found this out by accident; s. LK can actually beat scissor kicks. j. LK can beat headstomp. Usually, I like to get Bison to come to me. Too often I eat unnecessary shit for trying to approach him. Haha, sorry, I have bad matchups with him too
I have no idea why this is…I’ll get nailed all the time by this crap too. What I have learned, though, is that if you do a late SBF to counter the fireball, it will nail you pretty much every single time. That means no reversal SBF on wakeup for you if you have no life left :(. But if you do it early enough where the hopping motion occurs when you’re passing through the fireball, you’ll pass by without getting hit.
I like to harrass Blankas all day with j. MP, but of course, they’ll learn. The ones that I’ve playing like to counter my j. MP with jump straight up LK, LP, or FP. If you can bait them to jump if they’re anticipating a j. MP from you, you can nail them with a Thrust Kick, however this is somewhat difficult since his jump is pretty fast. As for the tick…REVERSAL!!! Yes, if you know it’s coming, you should try reversal Thrust Kick. This will at least give you some practice on the timing of the reversal.
I’m no expert but I’ve done really well against some of the best Honda’s on XBL (Chagathal, C0rbul0, NavyFenix77), and one of them even complimented me greatly. Here’s what I usually do:
Pace back and forth. Do not jump up and down too much because Honda’s can headbutt predictable patterns
Always have medium punch ready, and throw it out every time you jump
What you want to do is be close enough to Honda that your j. MP will hit him when it lands, as if you’re even an inch too far he will butt splash through
THE MOMENT YOU GET HIM DOWN, start crossing up!!! -> I do a variation of: j. lk > cr. mp > cr. short > Hooligan. When it gets too predictable, try removing cr. short, throwing a drill instead of Hooligan, and so forth.
Hooligan is your most important move in this match, and try tick-throwing after a crossup. Make sure you’re not predictable
No way is she mid-tier. Most of the expert Cammy’s will tell you she’s the worst in the game, and here are some reasons I give myself:
Her lk. drill can trade with some characters (ex. Zangief can sweep her out, or trade cr. short; Dee-Jay can cr. mp to stuff it)
Relies too much on spacing, needs to be too unpredictable to succeed
Bare Knuckle is only useful if you can predict a fireball
The angle on the Front Kick means you need ridiculous timing for it
She’s the type of character where she has enough options to squeeze matches out of top-tier characters, but expect to also lose some heartbreakers. Her speed and solid normals mean you can give hell to many opponents, and her pressure game (which can be very good) allows you to win more matches than you really should (if that makes sense). But regardless of all this, I love Cammy :D. I never even expected to main her, but I randomly started winning with in the early days and have never looked back.
I’m curious, is there some where online that shows this, I’ve always been wondering what the stamina/vitality totals for characters in ST and HDR were but I haven’t been able to find much and what I have found was contradictory, some said everyone was equal, others said there were 3 groups, Zangief, Large Characters, and everyone else, gief having like 120 health, large characters 110, and everyone else (such as cammy) having 100.
I don’t know the 'Gief vs Cammy match up very well (I didn’t even know she had an air throw until I played you yesterday) but anyway I thought the Cannon Drill trade with the sweep wasn’t always bad for Cammy since it meant we were at pretty much full screen’s distance again.
I also met another pretty good Cammy yesterday who surprised me while I was watching Tennis. ‘His’ name was Blackrabbit or something. He played less keep away than you and focused more on trying to pressurise me in the corner. I got my revenge next match though!
Anyway it was a useful day yesterday in terms of learning a bit more about the 'Gief v Cammy match-up.
Can anyone give me some tips on getting the throw to connect after the hooligan roll?? On SF IV it works fine every time, but for some reason in HDR she’ll just stop short right next to the opponent and I’m a sitting duck.
