I am trying to improve my Cammy and have been watching your Vids Syxx to try and improve my lock downs and pressure play.
Can anybody advise me which cannon drill to use in specific situations. Each time im near i use the LK version and i get swept on block, if im mid screen i use the HK version and seem to get swept on block.
Is there something obvious i am missing with the cannon drill as whenever i see it done in vids and its blocked, good Cammy players dont seem to get swept. They seem to know the right version to use in most situations.
I think the important thing here is distance. I have the same problem as you. I figure if you use the Cannon Drill from far away, then it becomes safe on block since there’s less recovery by the time you connect with your opponent.
King’s got it. She still has recovery if you’re too close. I would go to training and keep doing drills to learn the max ranges. My problem is accidental negative edged mk into drill. I can’t wait to get a stick.
Awesome, man. Can’t wait to check those matches out.
I’m very new to playing Cammy, having spent most of my Super Turbo time with Dee Jay, but I’m finding her to definitely be more to my liking than most of the cast. A lot of the tips written here have been extremely helpful building my game, though I’m certainly not great with Cammy by any means yet.
Probably my biggest problem so far has been landing her Crossup. I’m fairly certain that this is completely tied to playing Dee Jay for so long, and being spoiled by his easy-mode crossup combos. I’m having a lot of trouble adjusting to the spacing and timing with Cammy’s, almost always jumping too close. I also have a tendency to rely on it too heavily, again a habit picked up from Dee Jay. Now, obviously, these are the sorts of things that will correct themselves with practice, but I’m also wondering if there are certain characters and situations where landing the crossup is harder than you might expect, or simply unfavorable. For example, I imagine it’s the sort of thing you wouldn’t use too much against Blanka or Zangief, but any advice there would be welcome.
You’re totally right about Blanka and GEEF. Use crossups very rarely, actually jumping in on GEEF is a bad idea unless you have him scared or he’s a bad GEEF player. Lariat is too stupid.
Also, Chun-Li is kinda goofy to crossup foe me sometimes. I swear I have her sometimes, and my shit doesn’t connect and I get thrown.
You just gotta get used to Cammy’s jump arc, she jumps farther than DJ if I remember right. Jumping lk ins’t all that hard to land either, like you said you’re just so used to DJ.
She seems to jump further, but more than that, it’s that Dee Jay’s j. mk has a huge damage hitbox, which makes doing crossups with him so easy. Going back to other characters, I have a hard time. Cammy specifically, her jump feels longer, and more of an arc, which combined with her smaller j. lk hitbox, makes it feel like landing it takes much more of a ‘threading the needle’ skill than I’m used to.
And really, that should be something of a hint to me, I think. Intellectually, I know her ground game is where my attention should be, I know she has so many options to use against a waking opponent, but my gut is conditioned to say “go for crossup.” Certainly breaking that habit is probably going to be more important in the long run, but I’m also trying to get a feel for when it is an especially bad idea.
Any tips for fighting Gief players? I couldn’t win a single match against this good Gief player who was online last night. Forgot the player’s name…started with an H.
EDIT: I didn’t know you could use Hooligans on airborne opponents…nice.
Do a search in this thread for “crossup” and you’ll get some nice advice. For jumping short, I try to aim for their rear shoulder with her back foot. Give that a try…and do the search, too.
Lot of love for Cammy on these boards. This is now onto page 23. I am trying to main Cammy and really enjoy playing her but all i hear is bottom tier, waste of time etc.
With this much interest and with players playing her this well surely this isnt the case. Has she got mileage to be used even more deadly or are people only picking her up for a challenge or something new to do?
I have no idea what the tiers are, but if Cammy IS bottom tier, than she’s the most badass bottom tier ever! She CAN beat every character in this game as long as you have matchup knowledge. Even Honda can be taken down if you know how to react to his style.
On the original SF2 games I never played Cammy, initially due to the fact that I started playing them before she showed up. When she DID, I couldn’t figure out how to use her and just stuck with what I knew.
When the HD Remix came out, I decided to give her a shot again and I’m sure glad I did.
I won my first match online with her, then lost the next 30. I had beat Arcade on normal with her, but I didn’t understand anything about how to use her.
Determined not to give up, I’ve turned my record around from 1-30 to 21-53.
It’s still not great, but considering the large amount I was behind at first, it’s improving greatly.
People pick Cammy for all kinds of reasons.
I like the fact that she’s considered awful by most people.
When I pick Cammy and I see Akuma come up, I’m actually kind of anticipating the fight. What is seen as an easy win in their mind, leads to them making a lot of mistakes that get punished bad.
Anyways, sorry for the long post but gotta show the Cammy love. Hope she’s decent in SFIV, I know the first thing I’m doing is unlocking her. (I think you have to use C. Viper to unlock her, and I was planning on trying her out first anyways!)
The thing with Cammy is that she’s super reliant on mixing it up. She doesn’t have anything super solid that she can spam (jab torpedo, throw loop, etc.) You gotta work your ass off for those wins.
Is it possible to even get the drill to connect? I’ve tried for a while, and I always seem to slip at that point. Is it character specific (i.e. only big characters), or is my timing off somehow?
Also, any tips for comboing into super? All I can do is either meaty j.mp/j.mk/j.hp/j.hk (pick one) xx super. (kinda saw ideas from earlier in the thread, wondering if I missed something)
Also (and forgive me, I’m at work and don’t have much time to search), is throwing out her jab Kunckle a good idea on opponent wake up to keep up some pressure? (aside from chars. with DPs, since they should have invincibility)
I think it might be your timeing, because i don’t seem to have any problems with that despite useing the crappy ps3 pad, I take it you ain’t useing the lk drill, so it should be fine.
I think cammy has something going for her in HDR, some things are really workable like the knuckle and hooligan, lk drill for some pressure, which is actually somewhat save.
Am having the most troubles vs Honda and Guile…hard to approach, hard to deal damage, overall hard to win.
I’ve been reading some strats n stuff on how to approach, thanks ya’ll.
But Yea Cammy looks still pretty much bottom Tier…what a shame.
I’m not Syxx so I can’t speak for him but I do know that he has pre-reg’d for it, and to my knowledge has not said that he is withdrawing. Hope that should at least help.
