Canceling bufferd special moves

I’m not sure if this has been posted before but I figured it out while in training mode. Basically you can input a combo, buffer the special you want in and then decide not to commit and cancel the special.

For example with reptile i did his 3,2,1 string and buffered his dashing elbow and it came out like normal. I then did the same string but I held back after doing the special and the special did not come out, even after pressing back right before the move was supposed to come out.

This can probably be useful if you start a string into special then decide that you don’t want to commit to the special after getting blocked and ect. I haven’t tried with any other characters so I’m not sure if it’s specific to reptile but I’m guessing it can be useful.

Edit

I just tried with reptiles other moves and it still works. I just hold another direction on the joystick after buffering and the move wont come out. Should work with everyone.

It could be very useful with Scropion’s 33 spear cuz that string has a really small window to input the special and actually hit confirm it.

Yeah I can see it being a lot easier to hit confirm by buffering a move early in the string and then just hitting a direction if you see it didn’t connect. I’m sure it will have it’s uses.

just confirmed with nightwolf.

ugh stupid fucking game no wonder my combos weren’t coming out. i have a habit of holding back during my combos in case i drop and need to block immediately. useful though but frustrated me more than not.

why would you hold back to block?? this isn’t SF lol
don’t understand how people can’t adapt to different games, you don’t get into a manual car & speed off without clutching & pumping gas

Block button is the hardest thing to adapt to in fighting games, because blocking is something you do by instinct, without actually thinking about it.

I love this analogy. Lol.

This does indeed work, but you have to be a bit cautious about negative edge. Cancelling Nightwolf’s Hatchet by holding back does work, but hold for too long, and you might get Arrow. Good for commands that dont have anything else mapped to it, like reptile.

That’s pretty interesting… I’ll have to test it.
