Well my phone bill last year (Rogers) was $200+ after the week in cegas (when it is normally $65 per month). I had just gotten a new Apple iPhone 3gs less than 4 weeks prior to my evo trip and the combination of outrageous*roaming /internationalcharges by Rogers plus me just going a bit crazy with my new toy = hella monies spent.
Therefore this year with me im bringing a cheap prepaid mobile. For about $30 usd I was able to score a handset preloaded with x mins PLUS a $15 prepaid card. This should be enough to last me the week but even if I run out, I can easily drop into a walgreens, CVS, etc and top the minutes up.
I just checked online and there is a 7 Eleven about 10 mins walking from Caesars and cvs and walgreens are about 20 min walk away. These places all sell topup cards for prepaid virgin phones!
If you get a chance to pickup a cheap prepaid phone in the US before or even during your trip, I would strongly reccomend it.*
It’ll make keeping in touch alot more convinient and lighter on the wallet.

I wrote all this without realizing that this year at Caesars there will be free wifi accessible at the hotel. This certainly changes things as the rio in 2009 did not offer this (seriously, who doesn’t have wifi these days???)
So it looks like it wont be that bad - we can use email at the very least to keep in touch. I’ll prolly bring my iPhone anyways (but will be leaving it on airplane mode!!)
I want to put my two cent about this. I for one have been to many outside tournaments to atleast know what to expect.
Regarding Toronto vs Buffalo
Plane ticket if leaving in Buffalo: $420-450
Plane ticket if leaving in Toronto: $450-$500
This is just my opinion but I think it be best if you guys get tickets for Toronto instead.
The fact that you have to drive to Buffalo (2hrs) and border stuff is too much of a hassle to save $50.
You can’t be sure that the border will be long or fast and that might affect your flight in Buffalo.
Plus, you guys have to chip in on the gas and plane parking.
Gas would be $30 plus the parking would be $20 a day.
Not sure if you really saving there at all.
I don’t know about you guys but if Buffalo saves me more than $100, i’ll take it.
If it saves me $50 but have to go through the hassle of driving there and then driving back to toronto.
I don’t think it’s worth it really. All I can say is weigh your options.
Tekken and GG folks will be leaving from Toronto to Vegas.
I gave them an estimate of $500 for the ticket and a max of $50 for the hotel.
Whatever is spent after that is theirs to know.
So far I got 6 peeps coming with me. I’m giving these people until this month to decide if they want to come.

By the way, I just got off the phone from a guy at Caesar’s Palace. I’ve been holding off on booking any rooms until more information comes out. I know that some of you guys have already booked and gotten the deal through the Evolution website, but apparenlty prices will now go up and a new rate will be introduced, since you can’t get the old rate for the 11th of July.
Now you can get cheaper(although not as nice) rooms at Caesar’s, but beware that only three people can go in a room. For every other person, a $30 charge will be applied. The guy on the phone told me that they do keep good track of this (I don’t know how), but if they don’t charge when you book it now, they will charge you when you check out.

That’s exactly what I want to know. I asked this question in the EVO forum and most people said not to worry. As for paying more, they do have your credit card on file, so I’m not sure what they would do. However, I know that if you go to book a room online for any hotel/motel they charge you extra for the thrid person onward. I’m probably going to end up staying at the Imperial palace, it’s right across Caesar’s and the rooms aren’t bad.

It really comes down to how long you’re staying and how much of a mess you make. Basically if the cleaning staff come in and notice a huge mess AND notice there’s like… 5 suitcases in the room they’re going to put it together. Otherwise you’re really in no danger of being overbilled.
