As per requested this is just a few pointers:
-depending if you take Smokeyās deal for 7 days, if you donāt youāll want to look at Expedia for air travel. Chances are itās around $800 for round trip. Just check it regularly. It does this every year. For months itās 800$ and then suddenly and for a very limited time, it will drop to $400. Iāll post in here when that happens of course. Expedia also tends to have sweet deals around national holidays.
-Try to fly Air Canada. The comfort and the personal TV for movie selection is well worth it.
-Even though other surrounding hotels might be cheaper, just for the experience youāre better off at the hotel where Evo is happening. Less travel and much easier to go get your stick or whatever. And it makes things easier if you wanna do casuals in your hotel room.
-Watch out because most restaurants will charge an 18% gratuity to your total bill and they will refuse to split the bill. So yes that adds 18% of the total bill on top of shit. + tip. Shit can get expensive fast.
-From the airport, take the shuttle to the hotel. Thereās a free one or you can pay $5 and not wait for the free one. Taxi ride will go for $20-30.
-Do not let your shit out of your sight at any time for any reason. Dudes are fucking grimey. Sticks get stolen, adaptors get stolen, shit even systems get stolen, EVERY YEAR. Iāve seen phones, handheld consoles, and bags disappear. Keep your shit under a watchful eye and if you can, identify your stick so if someone snatches it, you can easily spot it (my advice= draw a giant penis with a sharpie marker, nobody wants a penis stick).
-If thereās enough to warrant two rooms for Mtl crew, try to get them adjoined, so less chance of a neighboring room complaining about the noise at 4am when youāre on your 12th money match and your 3rd bottle of vodka.
-Little trick I learned from Geese Pants this year: if you eat shit from the mini bar, donāt pay for it, go to Walgreens and buy it cheap there. It will cost you 50 cents instead of $5 for a goddamn chocolate bar.
-I know youāll probably end up at a titty bar. Donāt go recklessly spending too much money. 2 years ago I saw a dude spend almost 2 grand. And if youāre going to go, take your money out BEFORE you get there, Some bars add an extra charge of up to 20 dollars for withdrawing money. Itās fucking crazy.
-On the topic of money, most stores/restaurant wonāt take your debit card. Have lots of cash and credit card instead.
-If you get offered a money match for your shoes in Marvelā¦itās probably a bad idea.
-Be very careful of bitches hitting on you at the bar/in the hotel. Unless you saw them coming in from a bachelorette party (in which case, fucking plow away), chances are sheāll be a pro and expect money.
-Oh yes, and one last thing. Do not lose your passportā¦my advice is to put it in the safe in the room. Canadian passports can reach almost 50 grand on the black market so yes, that shit will get stolen. And if you donāt have it for the airport on the way back, youāll most likely spend 3 days in holding by Homeland Security, I know I almost had to myself.
