Canada at Evolution 2010

shouts to everyone who i saw and hung with! Toronto and mtl peeps, everyone.

It’s weird that nobody created an EVO Experience thread.
I had fun. I took 4th in my pool in Tekken so i’m happy about that.
I shattered 6 people’s dreams in EVO when they lost to the bear. LOL

Should I create a thread for EVO Experience? I would like to hear what people thought of the event and how they felt after EVO. I like putting myself in other people’s shoes when I read their post.

NeoRussell

I left the thread open for people to do logs and what not. I’ll post up thoughts most likely tonight.

EVO was good times.

Super4 stuff:

Pool "O"rtiz:

-1st game no bye vs some balrog. Really solid, goes to the very last game last round and I lose.

Off to the losers brackets, find out that I gotta win 11 in a row or something to make it out.

1st round losers, win via bye.
2nd round losers, win via DQ.

4 HOURS LATER standing around waiting for my turn, I finally get to play.

3rd round losers, win vs a chun player.
-lost the first game, 2nd game 1st round had no health vs 50% chun, made a comeback and kept on going to take games 2 and 3

4th round losers, can’t remember, probably a DQ win.

about an hour later I finally get to play again.

5th round losers, vs a vega player in a suit
-I keep falling for izuna roll x super
-We see super4 at it’s best when a weird x-up ultra 2 by vega
-STAY ON, your next opponent is here

6th round losers, win vs a gief player
-game 1, I keep missing the 3rd rekka, no sound on the TV means I can’t punish any lariats with rekka anyways. I lose and ask to borrow a stick, another

player in the pool watching lets me borrow his.
-game 2, I still miss the 3rd rekka, good to know it’s not my stick but i’m just shit at this game. Game 2 and 3 were pretty much the same, footsies all day,

the gief maybe jumped once per round knowing I can punish them and each round goes close to timeouts or did timeout. Most patient gief i’ve ever played
-STAY ON, your next opponent is here

7th round losers, win vs a rufus player
-was kinda scummy as he is the player who I just borrowed a TE stick from in my previous game
-I thank gerjay for all the rufus training as I take this set without much trouble.
-STAY ON, your next opponent is here

8th round losers, win vs ALLCAPS “bison player”
-I only remember him because he chats in #GTASF, very solid player in his 2nd tourney ever I believe that came down to the final game final round also
-yet again STAY ON!!

9th round losers, loss vs seattle cammy
-can’t remember his name, but he hits 98% of his combos and is a robot, came down to the final round where my mind broke when he finally started to use hooligan, didn’t see it all game and didn’t duck a single one. very good games.

Was 1 win away from the big stage to play in losers semi’s which would have been fun.

I’m pretty sure that’s all the matches, the losers bracket run was long and my old memory is bad.

As for STHD, I kept trying to FA and throw with jab/short. If I kept playing like I used to in this game I would have had a better placing.

From what I remember,
won my 1st game vs a ken player.
lost my 2nd game vs a solid ryu player
won my 3rd game vs a cammy player
lost my 4th game vs a chun player

There was also a $5 mini 4 man tourney being held by hori at the back, only had time to enter 2 and win both, thanks to them I had free lunch for my family

They also had a 16 man $5 entry fee tourney for a HRAP pro, can’t remember the model but it’s the bigass $300 stick. Won my first game and lost my 2nd.

Good times meeting norman and friends, I’m bad with names and didn’t get properly introduced to them either.

GGs to whoever I played and met and hung out with. See you all next year.

I’ll do a proper write up later:

SUPER STREET FIGHTER IV (POOL J)

1ST ROUND
Played a Ryu from Texas. Wacky situation happened as I didn’t config buttons properly. I paused mid round (he was up 90 - 10 at this point and I figured the round was shot anyway), fixed the buttons and then made the comeback and won the first game. I offered a replay, which he took. Beat him two straight anyway.

2ND ROUND
Played a Balrog from San Diego. It’s 6:4 Chun Li. This was pretty quick and painless.

3RD ROUND
Played a Bison from Maryland. I’ve got a ton of Bison experience under my belt after playing JTN/DS/Jeron/Greek for the past few months. Played it super aggressive as I didn’t want to get Scissor Pinned and took it down only dropping a round.

4TH ROUND
Played another Ryu. I think he was from somewhere in the midwest. I never have an issue playing Shoto.

5TH ROUND
Played a Rufus from Taiwan. What a fucking slaughter. I’ve never been beaten that badly by Rufus before, even when I didn’t have a grasp of the matchup. His spacing was perfect and I’ll admit to being mind fucked when someone told me he qualified for SBO just before my match.

7TH ROUND LOSERS
Played a guy that sounded like he had a North Eastern accent. One more Rog taken down.

8TH ROUND LOSERS
Played a Chun mirror with some guy who said “My goal is to qualify, I’m going to have to win.” LOL I said “don’t beat me” and then murdered him.

9TH ROUND LOSERS
Played Jan from Atlanta. I thought I’d have a good go of it as he’s a Zangief player but he switched to Cody. Fantastic spacing and footsies. I never got the ball rolling. No Cody bad home plays like him.

So I finished tied 9th in my pool. I can live with the placing considering the time I put in. I had ZERO chance against the Rufus in winners. I could have played my match with Jan better but hindsight is 20/20. This is the first year I haven’t wanted to quit after a major. I put in limited work and reaped pretty large dividends both in tournament and casuals all weekend. Time for another round of upgrades.

Good times this year, cheers to the Ontario, Manitoba and Alberta players that I chilled with at Evo.
