all i was saying is people were just starting to discover it and trying it out 6 months before cs dropped. not the diehards but just people that played mostly SF and the people that moved to cs. just got smaller when they did extend as a whole new disc
I guess it must be wrong for me to want both Guilty Gear and Blazblue to succeed in the community then. I clearly must choose whichever will be the next big thing until I get tired of it and go off to play whatever eSport iteration of Street Fighter Capcom decides to crap out, because the GG and BB fans seem to be unable to get along or at least not shit on their respective games.
See, these are some basic examples of prevalent ideas that I think are pretty toxic to fighting games right now.
When we’re grouping games together by type instead of by quality and by the experiences they offer to players, we get this idea of games “overlapping” like the traditional airdasher trope of a company that produces multiple IPs only being able to have one of its IPs in competitive play at once. Thankfully this only happens in the West–Japan and Korea have learned to play what they like and I hope 2014 (a.k.a. the Year of ASW…IF THEY DON’T SCREW THIS UP) really pushes the envelope to the Western airdasher scene and fighting players as a whole to say that just because a company has multiple IPs doesn’t mean that you only have to play the brand-spanking newest one. You can play the games that are GOOD and OFFER SOMETHING SOLID AND VALUABLE to players and if a company happens to produce multiple of that experience, then I think that should be rewarded but there is so much segregating and pigeonholing in the West, SMH.
With that being said, I think the “I hope Xrd is terrible” idea based on a love for BB or any other game (if I’m understanding that sentiment right) is suuuuuuuuper unfortunate because if there’s ANYTHING the FGC needs right now, it’s a solid bank of QUALITY games to be on the MAIN STAGE. Hoping for an upcoming game from a producer with a mostly on point track record for this generation to be terrible just for the sake of playing another game is just reflective again of the divisiveness that this community needs to overcome. One day, I sincerely hope the FGC can get to the point where the prevalent thinking revolves around the player experience and less about the genres.
We’ve all struggled through what is quite possibly the worst or second worst generation for fighting games in history from 2009 to now. Tons of factors play into this and I’m certainly not trying to blame everything on you two. I just hope we get a lull for the next year or two as a community to really do some introspection and clean house a bit. The games being played these days are just about eFame and “hype” (don’t even get me started on how this community has mutilated the idea of an exciting moment/set/game) and we’re watching true greatness sink into obscurity just because <insert super random nonsensical reasoning here>. I certainly don’t mean to insinuate that this applies only to airdashers, but it’s the grouping I’m probably most familiar with and the grouping that probably suffers from these toxic ideas the most.
Now, I do think Airk brings up some interested points, the most important one being that Guilty Gear has lived on mostly in spirit recently. Everyone raves about 3S (I personally think the game is shit and if it didn’t have Street Fighter on the label, it would have faded into nothingness…I’m going to try to be unbiased but full disclosure just in case so you can call me out on it if I’m not), but if a big 3S tournament were to happen RIGHT NOW, how many people would travel and sign up for it? Of course, we all can’t play the golden oldies forever, but 3S is incredibly accessible and everyone seems to love and adore it…many of the same people who complain about SF4, as a matter of fact. Yet still, turnout for a big 3S tournament would be abysmally low simply because it’s easy to look more fondly on the past and be critical of what’s in front of you now (many of the player who rave about 3S probably haven’t even played that much of it, but that’s just me guessing to be honest). I’m bringing that up to agree more or less with Airk’s point that GG is thought of the same way, but not only would many of the people who “support” it not actually enter a tournament for AC+, those same people would play Xrd for a grand total of ten minutes if the game is anywhere near as difficult (not trying to overplay the difficulty of the series, but it is certainly NOT a pick up and play game) as its previous iterations. GG probably can’t do a huge sweep of FGC hearts and minds on its own unless it innovates and makes things just a tad simpler (or at least the important things).
Anyway, wasn’t trying to smash you two across the nose, I just read those posts and was shaking my head infinite. I am seeing a pretty strong (relatively) presence for Chronophantasma on the East Coast and here’s hoping that the next two EVOs (the big heart-and-mind decider for this community for whatever valid/invalid reasons you can come up with) will reflect some truly QUALITY games since the stream of incoming games looks to be slowing down a bit over the next two years.
It was a joke. Hence “:P”
That said, I -am- kindof bitter about the way GG players have treated my favorite game for the past several years, so I certainly wouldn’t -mind- some just desserts. I’m not going to act like they did and tell everyone their game is terrible or something though. I don’t even do that for MARVEL.
To be REALLY honest, I don’t have time for more than one game, so Xrd could be the best thing since CvS2 and I still won’t play it in any sort of meaningful way.
You’re not, but I can see how you would be reading it that way.
As I’m sure you’ve figured out by now, genres don’t enter into this.
…what?
Right. And the flipside of this is that the ‘old guard’ of people who have spent the past four years crapping on BB because it’s “not as good as Guilty Gear” are going to have a hard pill to swallow if this happens, because everything they said was terrible about BB is probably going to be the case in some way in Xrd; You can’t make an “oldschool” Guilty Gear game anymore, and people who are expecting Xrd to be that are, IMHO, doomed to disappointment.
“Can BBCP revive BB in the FGC?”
FUCK NO!
BlazBlue is a dog-shit franchise! It’s a cancer that Arc System Works created and developed! It’s got the WORST characters ever existed, Twilight-plotted Story that has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING going on until the true ending, horrendous gameplay, terrible online multiplayer, Gay moments between Ragna and Jin, Noel the fucking damsel in distress, Hazama/Terumi the mentally retarded trolls, overpowered Kokonoe, useless black liquid shit character, shitty-ass anime, and the WORST ending in BBCP’s Story Mode that is easily comparable to Mass Effect 3!
Why the fuck is BlazBlue pronounced “Blaze” Blue? There’s no letter E on Blaz and it’s suppose to be pronounced “Blaz” Blue!
FUCK BLAZBLUE! GUILTY GEAR RULES!!!
You feel a bit better now that you let that off your chest ,
