Cammy Q&A: Ask simple questions here!

I started off with an american gateless (or round gate) stick, then moved to Japanese octogate (I thought the transition would be easier, and it was, until I realized that the octogate’s throw was too large = slow). Once I realized octogate’s issue, I taught myself to play with a square gate (my game initially suffered, but after a couple months, I improved compared to my octo/round gates days) and I’ve been using it ever since… TKCS is actually easier to pull off on a square gate than both the octo and the round gates… I like the throw (amount of travel before an input is recognized) of the square gate, it is very fast and now I understood how some of the Japanese players can input commands so fast… its from the square gates…

The motion is :qcb: :uf: :k: for the ground strike or commonly known as TKCS… just takes practice to get it fast… Being fast is not important… for TKCS consistency is much more important than speed… make sure whenever you execute a TKCS, it is actually there instead of a c.spike/jump kicks due to poor execution… Speed will come naturally…

What characters are easy to cross up with j.lk?

The only character I do this to is Ehonda… I dont know why it is so easy with e.honda. His build? and that they’re always crouching?

It’ll tell you on first post.

one question…any uses for EX SBF on wakeup ?

yes to escape corner pressure… and there are some specific situations:

  • vs akuma cammy being knocked down (corner and you are 1 hit away to being dead)… now you have this awful situation cause his EX DP wins against all your options… so you can EX Spin Knuckle… out of the corner if he DPs… (you are dead anyways lol… cause he can bait it… or use other stuff than DP)

  • vs Gen… you cant escape his deep crossup… CS doesnt auto-correct (and it get stuffed)… so you either EX Spin Knuckle away… or EX CS… both moves can get you out of it…

  • vs Blanka… Forward Throw -> Ambiguous Ultra… Reversal EX Spin Knuckle to the other direction escaping his Ultra… (it requires good timing since you may risk spinning WITH Blanka… you need to go the opposite direction!)

Actually, yes. Not MANY, but yes. The best use of it is actually when you’re at zero life and your opponent is a Shoto and they plan to chip you to death with their own EX DP. They know they will beat YOUR EX DP, and if you back dash, you get hit as well (the curse of having the least amount of invincible frames in backdash out of every character in SFIV). So you basically are doomed…

Well, no.

EX SBF will be invincible long enough to AVOID all EX DPs on wake up, and in the case of Akuma, will recover in time for you to punish him… just barely. But it is the only way to survive.

Sometimes I do it just to confuse people. I’ve gotten away with dumb things by using it super randomly. No one expects it, so people aren’t really sure, at first, how to punish it, especially since it passes through people a lot of the time. Sometimes, when trapped in the corner, I’ll use it to pass through the enemy if I have enough life, just to escape the corner and hopefully take minimal punishment.

Outside of that, though, no real use for it.

Crap… I tried to use EX SBF to escape corner trap, but failed on so many occasions… I waited until the absolute last second before there specials come out to do it in order to gain the most distance away from them, but I’ve been swept by shotos so many times after I clearly by passed their specials and spun through their bodies…

Now I am really paranoid about even using it as an escape…

doesn cspike have more frame invincibility/priority than srk?

cspike has a little more frame invincibility than regular DP. Akuma and Seth can beat Cammy’s DP I’m pretty sure. Any EX DP can beat Cammy’s.

so cammy spike > ryu/ken normal srk

cammy spike < seth/akuma srk + ALL EX srk’s ?

and for EX cspike? does it even beat regular seth or akuma ones or it has no advantage at all?

Well, right, I get swept, too. But I’m okay with that. If that’s the worst I get and I still manage to escape the corner, I’m happy because most of the time I’ll suffer more damage staying IN the corner. It’s when opponents REALLY punish me badly or throw me back into the Corner that I feel like it failed. I almost never expect to get away with that scott-free, but I’m okay if the worst they do is sweep me.

Nope. EX Cannon Spike is perhaps THE most useless move in the game. It adds ONE frame extra of invincibility (goes from 5 to 6) whereas Ryu’s, for example, goes from 4 to 13 or something like that. It juggles only on the portion that does less damage (so using it after Cannon Spike FADC is less damage). And the core hit only does 10 more points of damage. It’s utterly, entirely, and completely useless.

so the only little little little use is in mirror when both players cpsike same time just that 1 does EX and wins the cspike fight correct?

in theory yes, if they are both activated on the same frame… however cammy’s normal spike can beat her ex (or at least just pass through) if it’s activated 1 or 2 frames after the ex spike is started (have had this happen to me in the mirror match -_-

I play Cammy 90% of the time in SF4. I’ve been in G1 for a few weeks now having a really hard time and I was wondering if there was any one thing that you learned that really made a difference in matches. My biggest development came when I learned to do the BnB combo and when I learned to FADC. And just focus in general.

What made you a better player? Just asking in general, not anyone in particular.

What’s making me a better player is learning to TKCS and combo out of it. Holy crap, when I get it IT ROCKS. I’m starting to learn how to consistently land the CSpike FADC Ultra. I do need to focus more often though. I’m trying to get myself to STAY IN when I’m in. I tend to want to back out a little when a make a mistake, causing me having to work to get in again.

Really akuma has a better dp? I didn’t know that is it because of how he rises?

ex dp from akuma has like 15 frames invisibility, the one from cammy 6

his normal dp has more invincibility.

I can see it. Is there a way to land the Hooligan trap on him after a normal throw? I normal throw, and then use MP Hooligan right when I stand up, it catches Ryus, Kens, Sagats, Rogs (as long as they don’t EX Headbut, then it just wiffs, but they waste meter) and practically nearly everyone else with a DP, but when I try it against Akuma I eat a HP SHORYUKEN!!! They don’t taste good, so should I do a back throw then and try to time it better, or will I just continue to eat from the buffet of DPs if I continue to try this?
