Cammy Q&A: Ask simple questions here!

Not sure if anyone’s asked this question yet, but I’m seeing Sako do a bunch of Cannon Strike crossups and fake crossups. Is this merely timing, spacing, or is there something more to it like LK Strike is fake, and HK strike is a crossup or something?

timing, i believe sako used hk strike to crossup. visually it will look the same yet it wont crossup (at times) thus being ambiguous.

with hk strike you will likely land behind. if you mk strike (as a mix up) you will land front.

hk strike is difficult to followup with a combo. EX strike crossup is the real deal here. cause you can combo/ultra on a successful hit.

its “O K”. if you are that close you better off using standing HP for a quick punish! (then arrow or whatever)

It is a very useful and simple option select. What they are doing is buffering spiral arrow into c.mk pokes from “whiff” range. How this works is if the c.mk doesn’t connect with anything no spiral arrow comes out. However, if the c.mk catches a poke or anything that falls within range (and this can include a block if they walk forward and block) then the spiral arrow follows.

In practice, set a dummy to c.mk and practice buffering c.mk xx sa while walking in and out of the attacks range. You will at some point in time “catch” the dummy’s poke and lo and behold! spiral arrow knockdown.

Cross up EX c.strike is now my main shenanigan against everyone on wake up. It is so ambiguous. Based both on height and distance, it’s really difficult to tell which way to block. Regular high C.strikes is a lot more difficult to pull off as real cross up.

Just a random info drop:

LK c.strike WILL cross up if done @ the right corner @ full height due to the corner differences (and it WILL NEVER CROSS UP @ the left corner again due to peculiar corner behavior for most SF engines).

So I want to learn some Cammy beside my Viper/Seth.

What are the essential combos that I’d have to know? I know stuff like tiger knee strikes already, and can canonspike fadc U1 but I have a bit of trouble understanding what are here really important/best combos that I’d have to know. They can be advanced ones too, I don’t really have much execution problems :slight_smile:

Well her BnBs are essential for every Cammy player to use.

cr.lk, cr.lp, cr.lk xx HSA
cr.lk, cr.lp, s.lp xx HSA

etc etc…

Easy to do, decent damage and will always score you that knockdown.

Other combos that have good damage output and are not that hard:

cl st.mp, cr.mp xx HSA

cl st.mp, cr.mk xx HSA (abit harder to link than the above but does great damage)

cr.hp, cr.mk xx HSA

All three combos are super cancelable (except #3 sometimes, as in HSA will only hit some characters once instead of twice. It’s recommended to use mk SA on characters that happens with). All combos that I listed can be done on the ground, from jump-ins (j.hp/j.hk), EX C.Strikes, C.Strikes (depends on height of the C.Strike), and TK Strikes.

If you want the more flashy, difficult but high damaging combos, I can list those too.

I need a second because I cant handle mirror matches or any other rushdown character. I can handle fireball characters pretty well but can anyone recommend a rushdown character and a fire ball character for me to try that does well against rushdown.

I’d recommend Cammy tbh. Ryu also is definitely a good try.

But if I were you (leaving off from our earlier convo) I’d have at least 1-3 other serious secondaries. Learning a different style of play helps in all aspects of the game. It will make your Cammy better. Also try a character without a dp or good reversal. It will teach you to play better defense and counter defense.

Thanks for the help again I’m going to pick up Ryu and I was thinking about picking up Guy, or Cody or chun li. Using a character without a Dp or bad one sounds like it should help me a lot. Im so free upclose on non fireball character and I can pressure but CAN NOT take any pressure.

Being free up close sounds like you arent blocking… or taking a lot of counter hits. Blocking should do the trick.

Don’t be afraid to take a throw sometimes. Better than taking a combo.

What? Ambiguous cross up from EX CS? does this work against most of the cast? is there a video of it? and how come I never knew about this ? O.o

You can also make the ex cannon strike cross up after back throw. One of the cammy players here figured it out right after that video was made.

i thought it was you that figured it out haha, it’s like back throw > immediate lk tkcs > uf > ex strike at the peak of the jump.
