Alright! Yes you are wrong. Have you seen the video? Karin is not set to wake up jab, she’s set to jab after blocking.
Check out 0:22 and you can clearly see Karin blocking the suction part and getting beat by the followup. Gief does ex-SPD, meaty vtrigger activation (karin blocks the suction, zangief’s arms don’t touch her), Gief does a jab and it beats Karin’s jab. Then at 1:30 he does it again with ex air SPD. Then at 2:50 he does the same with CC st.hk.
These setups being +3 means he can either go for a SPD (it’s 5f in this game so it should beat jab) or counterhit your buttons.
But yes, on those “+16 on block” setups you won’t get command grabbed straight away, but Zangief will have tons of options. He can try and catch you pressing buttons, tick throw, tick command grab or hitconfirm low and still go for a command grab if you’re blocking. If he wants to command grab you he’ll have to delay it manually.
Ok I see what you are saying, but I was referring to his arm hitting on the v-trigger. I didn’t even know the game registered that move as block if his arms didn’t hit as you aren’t really blocking and if he does it raw he is at -6 usually in that situation. So the meaty basically lets him negate the -6 version of the v-trigger that doesn’t hit vs the -3 one that does.
Besides the +3 meaty version I’d think it would be hard to time the command grab, so it seems like an easy jump out decision on that one. Him being able to force tick grab situations with the more plus situations is definitely scarier though. What option(s) do you think would be best to try in those scenarios?
Oh yeah, the meaty part is the suction part. If his arms touch you then you’ll be pushed back really hard once it lands. Keep in mind this video is season one, I have no clue about season two Zangief.
Why does +3 make it hard to time the command grab? He can do it instantly, SPD has a 5f startup in this game.
As to better options probably it would be the same “block for X frames and then jump back tech OS” we saw in that Laura evernote. He’ll probably get you with st.hk if you’re predictable though. If he ever does v-trigger raw or special cancels into it (and you’re blocking) just jab away as it will either be a true blockstring with huge pushback or he’ll be minus if he stops before arms hit you.
