Cammy Hatred

You are never as good as you think you are, but you are never as bad as you think you are either. <3.

I beg to differ.

50/50 coin toss is more entertaining to play with/against then rushdown frame trap/vortex/pressure > throw. How many characters do that already?

Cammy is a character that has incredible pressure, I’d consider it literally unfair in certain matchups (Against Sim for example) I usually wouldn’t care, pressure is legitimate, but it’s just that cammy get’s this pressure so easily and with such little effort, you feel like the actual player is secondary.

This pressure leads to incredible damage, she hits a lot and she hits hard, constantly. Everything leads into another mixup and eventually more damage. EX just makes everything worse since you can pretty much gets a 450 DMG punish for crouch teching (Or just doing anything that involves not blocking). This is emphasised due to the fact she gains meter incredibly quickly, she has great buttons, too.

She has a lot of weaknesses, im sure. She is no omnipotent god. She is barely better than the rest of the top 3, and she does have shit matchups. It’s just…She doesn’t have as many as other people.

She joins Viper and Akuma in my top 3. I firmly believe Seth has no place in the top 3. Simply because 1 mistake can pretty much spell the end of the round and the game.

  1. Cammy / Viper
  2. Akuma
  3. Whatever you want. Maybe Fei, The game is balanced.

TL;DR - She has everything and more.

Seth belongs in the top 3 because he has the probably the best normals in the game, a fireball, a command grab, a divekick, a wall jump that goes fullscreen, a teloport, greatly damaging combos that can quickly put someone in stun if done in rapid succession, really the only thing bad about him is the fact that he only has like 700 health and even then you barely ever get a chance to touch him in the match, if Seth just got 100-150 more health he’d be the only character in God tier.

wow, i didn’t know that my main since supersf2 was top tier now, now i feel bad about losing all the time…lol…before i could just say “she’s low tier”

Not even worth a reply…Dear god…

This thread is too much…

but whatever. Back to the main question… I think Cammy is hated on just cause ppl think she’s gimmicky. Probably similar to ppl getting crapped on by other mixup-heavy characters. Who else used to always hear “spammy” all the time? I think that there’s no real basis for all this ‘hate’. If anything, it’s just salty players raging at getting out played.

As for tiers…why is everyone sleeping on so many characters? Especially ones that have been topping majors.

They suck, that’s why. I don’t hear any pro’s complaining about her.

Because if a pro player properly spoke out against a character, can you imagine the backlash they would get?

Being top in Daigos Tier List is enough.

Because she has stupid damage and stupid easy ways to land it. Same as Viper and Rufus. Seth at least has poor health, so if he makes a mistake, he pays dearly.

I don’t care for stupid damage. I think some characters should be entitled to it, Cammy’s big damage is hardly a factor for me.

It’s just at the end of every single combo, she is in such an amazing position to start her stupidly ambiguous mixup again into another huge damage combo. I think this consistency and the potency of her mixup dwarves Viper and Rufus by a small margin (Especially Rufus Yo).

People can argue “Seth can do the same from Midscreen DP!” or “Akuma has the vortex!” This is very true. However, neither of those character can apply such “Safe” mixup as she can, nor do they get this mixup from pretty much everything. (Seth rarely gets midscreen DP from a combo. Yo)

No offense intended, but I think your character knowledge on Cammy is lacking since there’s a lot that’s wrong with what you’ve written here. I think this will help you deal with Cammy as well, so let’s go through it!

Cammy mixup is not “stupidly ambiguous” - it can however, be hard to block if your character has no options of dealing with it. Fortunately, most characters do, as the crossup option after spiral arrow knockdown loses to a whole variety of things, from reversals to focus dashes to just plain walking under and blocking front, depending on character. Learn which of these works for your character if you’re having trouble blocking her oki. If you crouch block until just before the divekick would hit you, you get a little extra time to reaction block it.

This is why you see strong Cammys almost exclusively go for divekick oki, which will always hit from the front unless a small miracle happens (frame perfect timing + character specific standing/crouching setup + enemy deciding to stand/crouch block as needed for the setup). Just today, on the Evo stream about 90% of Xiao Hai’s oki after spiral arrow was blocked (I only counted twice where it hit, once was an EX strike crossup). Players strongly favour safe divekick pressure over risky low damage crossup j.lk.

Also, if you don’t quickrise against Cammy and she jumps forward after knockdown, she won’t be able to cross you up, at all, unless the aforementioned small miracle happens. Even in these rare cases, all Cammy gets is cr.lk or cr.mp xx arrow for low damage.

Cammy mixup is only safe if she chooses the divekick option, which is what is used the great majority of the time. And it’s not mixup if you keep choosing the same option over and over again. It is safe pressure, though!

Took almost twenty years to be considered a tier whore. Always played her, always will. No one else feels “right” although Fei might be a close second. Especially playing someone who jumps in like Bugs Fucking Bunny Cammy is a good choice.

You cleared up a lot of stuff for me here. Thanks!

(Bet you didn’t expect that…)

Don’t treat me like a dumbass, we all know who Poongko is.

I’m just saying you are wrong in every sense of the word. Have you ever played Seth?

What combocrafter said is not wrong. If you disagree, why not just state why and we all can have a discussion. Considering that you state that Cammy’s vortex is better than Akuma’s and her mix up is better than Seth makes me question your knowledge in SF4.

I didn’t mean to make it sound like I was looking down on you, my apologies if it sounded that way, and well I have tried to play seth and I know I was a bad one so that doesn’t rly count. But think about it, the way Poongko plays Seth makes all of the above things I say sound true. He combos in rapid succesion and stuns people before they(usually) can ever hit him. And if a Seth of Poongko’s stature and gets you in the corner it makes it seem like the fight is over before it even actually started. Again I’m srry for making you feel that I was talking down to you, and I hope you accept my apology.

I never said either of those things? Where did you get this from?

And it’s fine ComboCrafter, you just replied at a bad times. Apolgies from me, too.

Let’s have a discussion then, WL. What point do you want to raise?

Cammy is one of the hardest characters to master. With a steep learning curve. Pick her up and see for urself…

Then come back here complaining about balrog/Honda/deejay/ryu/akuma match ups.

Nice. Let’s keep this misconception going. Strike will never crossup. Hahaha.
