Cammy General Discussion: To Bee or not to Bee

I would just chalk that up to the game getting closer to release. More people have bought the game by now that are casuals.

All the people that know frame data, post on forums and talk about the game alot…we got the game months ago. Just a lower percentage of good players for a while. I’ve definitely noticed a decrease in player quality even between beta 2 and this beta.

Don’t think it really means much though.

Idk I’ve been having some troubles as cammy for like the last hour,and I’ll admit I’m not really good. People really pushing that “why do anything in this game” meta,it’s sorta frustrating like where u niggas get all this defense from?

Also it seems like the cr.mk range does hit at the tip on certain character against dhalsim it hits right on the tip. Guess it’s just a hitbox issue

But in all seriousness… is it just me or is literally everything cammy has majorly unsafe on block?
I’ve only tried for a few hours but other than jumping in and going from there Cammy really has nothing going for her.
Just now a Ryu grabbed my Hooligan combination… like really? :o
And why does DP do so much damage on Cammy?

does anyone know what the best button for anti air cuzz b-mp is not good anymore trades or gets beat alot now

Does her V-skill only combo into cr.mp on certain characters? Or is it a spacing kind of thing?

This is my point. It feels like every other character has better/safer pressure tool and buttons - necalli and laura apparently even have frame traps and others have overheads as well. Cammy has two buttons until you’re back to neutral and if for some reason they work as a frametrap, there’s no third button to confirm the second hit into. No other moves that leave you positive as well and if they block your divekick you’re getting punished. F.hk might get stuffed by lows.
And I was also grabbed out of anything - hooligan, spin knuckle and f.hk. And even when you hit them sometimes you can’t even combo out of these moves due to spacing/hitboxes. Even getting cr.mp after a crossup (which has no hitstun) is wonky and weird. And since followup is basically cr.mp xx arrow you’re getting punished again. And let’s not talk about the times I get hooligan instead of arrow due to negative edging.

I call having trouble against stupid playstyles a problem. Catch one DP and you’re dealing tons of damage - except you’re not because her damage is pretty meh. But I don’t think she’s that bad against this playstyle, even more due to the fact her CA punishes fireballs from across the screen.

It does, I can punish most sweeps with it on their maxrange were the move would normaly whiff. It’s pretty strange,but damn funny.

I’m a endless warrior in SFIV since Vanilla, my ranked points come from character experiements.
Thats why I’m currently realy annoyed,because I now have to fight the whole time the ranked mentality: “I play one time random and you will never see me again!”

Cammy has good buttons, some of the best pokes right now, I think she might have better ones than Chun-Li,but they might be even.
Just Cammy was NEVER a character with safe Specials.
In CVS2, her Arrows had to be spaced to be safe, she relaid 95% on her normals.
ST, she relais only on her normals for her whole gameplan.
SFIV her divekick is only safe good spaced or meaty.

Her Normals however, were allways good. Nice frametrap options, good normals. Even in SFIV her Normals are very good, but harder to use.
Just learn to relai on your normals and punish fireballs with V-Skill on reaction. If you have V-Trigger or CA Stocked you can punish every fireball from fullscreen.

Strange back+mp works just fine for me. st.hk is also realy good. If you can’t anti-air with her normals use her DP,it’s awesome.

Should work against everyone, I hadn’t much problems.

Did anyone else notice some very odd hurtboxes when playing Cammy vs Ryu btw?
This one dude Ex-DP’d me from almost half a screen away lol.

I’m thinking her flip punch (Mp+Mk) makes Cammy’s hurtbox explode.
That thing has made me eat DPs that were so far away I couldn’t even punish them on whiff o.O

honestly if you’re having trouble pressuring people or doing unsafe specials you need to up your confirm game.
I usually do strings that are easily confirmable to Drill like cr.MP [x2] > cr.MK, st.MP > cr.MP or cr.MK, st.LP > st.MP > cr.MK, etc.
if they hit then I will confirm to Drill, if they dont I will do a Hooligan. Right now nobody really knows what to do about Hooligan mixups right now so if I were you I would use and abuse it while you can.
Anyway I only use the low Hooligan followup sparingly and mainly do the CStrike. Most people will crouch block it which I’m pretty sure is good for you since the lower it hits = the more advantage you have when you recover. If they like to block it high then you can just do the throw followup the next time you do it.
If the CStrike hits (not really hard to confirm) then I will do cr.LP into TC xx CSpike or cr.LP xx Drill if they are further away. If they block it then I will do st.LP which usually beats out whatever they do and start the process all over again.

I don’t think Cammy is a bad character, but I think she plays differently from what people were expecting. Right now she feels more like a footsie-based, defensive character, that has good punishes for when people make mistakes (good buttons, good whiff punishes, meterless reversal, good anti-airs). But she doesn’t feel as good at offensive pressure as some of the other chars.

I haven’t really analyzed it fully, but I don’t think the hooligan mixup is really sound—I’ve gotten thrown out of it, so I think it’s more of a gimmick at this point.

I think its a gimmick too, I’m just enjoying using it right now till people figure out how to counter it :smiley:
And even though I was making efforts to rushdown I still ended up as a defensive rating when I signed off today lol
If throws (or at least her throw) had more range then I think she would be a more offensive character though.

Cammy needs to use her walk speed and do some s. jabs. Don’t just use her “best buttons” like s. mp, s. mk, c. mk. walk forward jab lets you fill in that space where you hit a few buttons and they’re out of range.

It also encourages people to start hitting buttons to get you to stop doing s. jab, walk forward, s. jab etc, allowing your footsies to hit more often. Else you’ll just start throwing them if nothing else.

How are you guys getting in with her? I’m managing at the moment but I’m pretty sure it’s all unfamiliarity with the match-up.

Hooligan gets beaten cleanly by jabs and DP’s. I’m pretty sure I got grabbed out of it once.

Her divekick is iffy as well. It’s good for the regular stuff like baiting AA’s, but I’m trading a lot right now. I have more success with the Hooligan version, but it’s still not quite consistent.

V-Skill gets stuffed against anyone remotely decent. Against anyone who knows her gimmicks I get stuck in neutral. Right now the only other options I have are EX dive kick and a read with spiral arrow.

Also, when did EX Spiral lose projectile invincibility? Wth is up with that?

I’m struggling with all of the above as well…
Every special you have gets beaten by jabs which leaves you with normals.
But all of your normals can be blocked low and if you spam jab during block strings cammy can’t jump anyway :expressionless:

As for the Vskill though, I’ve stopped using it randomly and started to use it more like you’d use Instinct in KI.

I have no clue on the notation you used. What are commas and > supposed to represent? Anyway, what I said is you can’t confirm the second hit (the trap). Unless there’s a 3-hit combo in there my point should persist. If the meaty hits then yes you can easily confirm.

And as others said, everything feels so iffy. Sometimes things combo, sometimes you’re out of range. And every “mixup” she has is beaten clearly by jab spam. I would be screwed if people knew when to use jabs lol.

Oh and apparently hurtboxes - not hitboxes - are the crappy ones. All characters seem to have them only closer to their torso. If you test it on Dhalsim you’ll see what I’m talking about.
