I’m sure the tournament directors have thought about this, and other people have suggested this before, but how viable is calling/texting players 5-10 min prior to the start of their pools/matches?
hoyhoypinoy boy (9:20:32 PM): you know what they need to do to save time
hoyhoypinoy boy (9:20:39 PM): they need to txt or call peoples cell phones
hoyhoypinoy boy (9:20:44 PM): and say “youre up in 5 min”
In my own experience I have found that texts are often delayed or caught in the network somewhere, so your “5 minute” text may not get delievered on time, some people have their texts delayed for hours for unknown reasons, I wouldn’t feel comfortable sending out thousands of these every few minutes.
In addition, a system like that would cause dependency, so you would have even less players on time as they stray off and wait for their texts. The pool system has less to remember and keep track of, maybe texts could be used to remind people of the pool times, but you can already set those up yourself with google calendar once the schedule is out.
I’d rather not, being from out of the country I’m already roaming on US networks which means I pay a little fortune for every outgoing as well as incoming texts.
