In case, if there is only 1 cvs2 cabinet available on the 18th for the tourney, we will do quick round robins with the local people to determine the top few. Then adds on the out of towners, we will make it a 16 people tourney.

Round robins are actually longer than double elimination tourneys. Unless they are best of 1. It’s still possible to do the 16-32 double elim… I think we had twenty something at the last Cove tourney… but it’s just really long.
I thought I was telling you something you didn’t know. Round robins aren’t quick. So your suggestion is actually gonna be longer than just doing a regular double-elim. Not to mention the fact that it screws the “not so good” people over. Me, you, and the other Byron constantly beat everyone else every single week… and the one time they play in a tourney, they get beat by us in the round robin, without any chance of playing any out of towners.
Let’s use MvC2 as an analogy. Would you rather pay entry fee and lose to Ray/Corey/Regent in a round robin. Or would you rather pay entry fee and lose to Tao/James in a double-elim. I would probably pick the 2nd one. I already pay 10 bucks just to lose to Ray in MvC2 every week.
Basically stick with what you got. If there’s a 2nd machine… then all the better. If not, then you just gotta wait a couple more hours. It’s been done before with 1 machine so we know that it’s possible.
I don’t think anyone here is giving you crap Ian. The 10 dollar weekend thing has been great so far, keep up the good work. One suggestion would be to use EVENT mode for those games with tournaments. That way, people are actually able to change characters at the end of a match.
Edit: Doesn’t look like LTB can make it. There’s already a tourney in Seattle on the same date.
Hey i definatly appriciate you holding these events on your own time here! ! it would be a shame to have an event like this go away, then the dam edmontonians will get one step ahead of us in the cliche culture. anyways Thanks IAN ! ! i get bored of fighting games easily cause playing against the computer suxx! ! but now i got actual people to play against (even though i get whooped!) it’s still fun. If you need any help holding these events and such, you should give me a holla, since i don’t have to deal with stupid assignments, projects, exams anymore. Byron, sorry about the poor usage of words from the previous post, I was in a shitty mood when I wrote it.
I told the owner several times with event mode, and apparently I have to be right beside him and remind him when he opens those machines up. It’s like he opens the machines up so early, and leaves before we even get there.
If we were to do round robins, the previous seeded people in Calgary aren’t going to participate in it… just the others in a single match round robin. However, since you guys are cool with even running the whole thing with one machine… then that’s fine with me.

Hey Ian. To help you out so you don’t have to keep on redrawing up brackets here’s some PDF files that you can just print out each time you have a tournament. Should save you some time.
They’re seeded 1-8/1-16/1-32… should be very helpful. If you have like 24 people then seeds 25-32 count as byes and you basically just follow the flowchart.
Ian, calm down man. I don’t think anyone is giving you shit. Actually I prefer the Round Robin myself, but Byron is right, it does take a long time now that I think about it. A normal double elim is fine. It doesn’t look like it’ll break 30 people (per game) from the sound of it.
One thing though, I think everyone likes what you’re doing with the $10 weekend special. We show up and play and support your idea. What more do you want? Sure we throw out suggestions and talk shit (okay, Ray talks shit b/c he know he can never beat me ) but it’s because we want to make it better.
