I thought people hated rollback netcode.
rollback netcode, when done right, is the best way to do it
the problem is not everybody does it right
i had a talk at combo breaker about this with the KI networking guy, who was explaining to me the common mistakes developers make with rollback netcode (and what he believes happened to sfv’s netcode), it was really interesting
I’ll have to look further into that later then
it’s no surprise that all the best netcode games of this generation (KI, mkx/injustice 2, skullgirls, rising thunder) all use rollback netcode models. they’ve just … actually done it correctly, properly synching the clients and keeping the sync accurate. the KI guy believes that sfv does not properly maintain the sync, which is why one side gets all the rollback and alt-tabbing on the PC version transfers the rollback to the opponent, because it changes how the game gets synched by force (and we talked a lot more at length about this, with examples and suggested fixes and stuff)
he doesn’t have inside information into how sfv netcode works but after having worked on rollback netcode for many years, and done it successfully for many projects, he told me he has seen everything that can go wrong with rollback netcode and the sfv case has pretty elementary flaws in how they’re doing it

after watching more marvel gameplay i actually think it looks pretty cool and fun
