I love Sektor so… But my heart is also with Mika… What a great problem to have. Enjoying 2 great games at once. For the past forever characters I like have been left out of fighting games.
But now I’ll have the opposite problem… Gonna keep up with SFV and MKX for sure… But then KI on PC with Riptor and Revelator with Jam soon after? Serious first world problems.
do you know how riptor plays? i dunno what type of characters you like in fighting games but riptor is a pretty extreme archetype, might not be for you

Standing HK (crush), (depending on spacing, either stay put or walk forward a bit) standing HK, activate V-trigger, crouching MP/MK xx LK stomp xx Super
bye bye all your meter / vtrigger but holy shit that damage
edit: you can get away with the one HK & activate - get everything else minus the super, or EX stomp. seems like a great time to just get that crazy hair goin’!
i haven’t played karin vs necalli that much, so can’t say i have a lot of insight into it
i think necalli struggles against characters with amazing midscreen control so i can see karin being tough. necalli can probably hang out okay though, just need to find the right buttons to challenge st.MK
karin also, in general, has weak AA without meter so you can probably jump in on her. necalli has some of the better air buttons (j.fierce is super hard to anti-air without invincibility, he also has a dive kick to throw off the timing). i wouldn’t recommend jumping a lot but karin probably has to block some of your jumpins
fighting against karin requires a lot of matchup knowledge though. you need to know when you can press buttons (and which buttons for your character adequately cover her weird mixups-but-not-really moves). she has a lot of moves like this.
she can aggro / block stun him for days, it’s very frustrating. If you guess wrong on the mix-up / block it’s a bad time (can be said about anyone really, but it just feels so much worse haha).
She’s got amazing buttons and from what I can tell so far, very safe specials. Feels like one of the worst matches in the game to me so far :perturbed:

she has exactly one safe special, it’s the yun shoulder-like move (qcf + K dash, d+P followup), that’s -2 on block
everything else is wildly unsafe
light up kicks is -5 (necalli can do cr.MP into light rush, or if you don’t want to drop it, cr.jab into EX stomp), the jumping overhead thing is -4 at best, -6 at worst, all her rekkas are unsafe, all her followups to up kicks are unsafe and interruptable
her buttons are very good yes, but she can’t use her specials for anything except hit confirms or trying to catch you sleeping at the wheel, in 6 months i predict you won’t see any of karin’s specials except the yun shoulder, the retreating v-trigger rekka, and the very, very rare surprise dash into throw/button (outside of hit confirms)
thanks. I’ll just have to stop putting the CPU on 8 difficulty and just record some of her moves to find an appropriate punish.
I think the hardest part is just finding out how to block her shit though. Her sweep is really really good as well.
sweep is really good, it’s -14 (one of the more unsafe sweeps) but the range is maybe the best in the game and it’s surprisingly hard to punish at max range, unlike other sweeps that sort of pull you in a bit
what move are you having trouble blocking? she basically has no mixups and a very obvious response to everything (“if you see this, always press X and it either punishes her or interrupts a followup”). it takes a bit of knowledge to know that but her specials are pretty lackluster IMO
Yeah, I feel like she is missing something, maybe just-frame tenko should be less horrible on block or maybe reduce her height more on command dash or maybe make st.HP crush instead of cr.HP? VTrigger is not enough to complete her and I think her ability to get damage from crush counter is very weak compared to other characters . When I play Nash or Ken , I’m like “Oh wow, look at all this stuff I can do! Everything I do anti-airs!”
You’re basically spelling it out for me, I’m just highly unfamiliar with her specials mostly - which I’m mistakingly seeing as mixups. Once I do a bit more reading I’m gonna hit the lab.
I’ll post my findings for counter hits or reversals.
I generally like characters with great momentum. Ones that don’t let you play the game once they get going and involve good reads (often grapplers). And I like good mobility and oppressive normals/specials. Riptor is pure rushdown? Alien in MKXL seems to rip off most everything about KI’s Riptor.

Yea i dont really understand why some people say karin has good mixups. You can mash jab out of any of her rekka variations and you will beat every one of them.
riptor is pretty oppressive on offense, but doesn’t have particularly great mobility or normals from outside close range
i liken riptor to an el fuerte/dudley cross. weird left-right mixups that are risky and very hard to stop (and lead to real damage, unlike fuerte), some really good close range normals and pressure, but generally hit-and-run-y from any range outside that, might struggle to get in a bit
she’s definitely not a traditional FG character, requires some familiarity to use since the buttons you press feel awkward if you like “normal” characters, but if you get her engine going and you guess right a bunch, you can make people look really silly
in season 3 riptor’s left-right stuff is slightly nerfed (slower, less damage at the start) and she got some better tools to fight at range (a SFV dhalsim-like arcing fireball)
