Yeah, absolutely Dave.
Huzzah. I was worried that there wouldn’t be a Trials mode in SFV. Shouldn’t be too difficult given that the links are all fairly lenient compared to SF4
Lol totally not feeling the suspenders on Alex.
Rashid’s friend Azam looks rad though. Wish he was playable.
Looks like 3 DLC characters released before EVO. People will get 3 months to get familiar with the 3rd character before EVO.
Then the rest by September, which gives people 4 months to get familiar with the last character for Capcom Cup.
Remember how much crap the Capcom community gave the KI and NRS ones for adding characters every month? Neither do they…
Pretty sure it’s only you and ricky that pay attention to those games, so nope! :^)
Hopefully each dlc character also doesn’t come with a massive balance change. I think that’s what pisses people off the most?
So apparently legacy controller support doesn’t work exactly the same way with SFV as it did in MKX. You only need one DS4 controller to authenticate the PS3 sticks in the menus, instead of one per stick. Still a pain but whatevs.
Apparently a PS4 stick can authenticate the PS3 one as well… So I guess you don’t need a DS4 at all if you’re playing against someone with a PS4 fightstick. In practice though I imagine everyone using a PS3 stick will still need to lug around a DS4 as well at tournies. And a cable for it. And remember to desync and clear cache. So really no difference in practice.
Cable for DS4 does nothing but provide power - inputs still get transmitted wireless. Troy’s idea of two DS4 devices tucked away and plugged in to a power bar sounds like the optimal configuration if you decide to go that route - I’m not sure how the input lag that is caused by multiple devices in close proximity actually behaves in this scenario. I guess for SFV (no other game) you could wire in a single hori FC pad and use one of these.
Edit : apparently that specific device is shit - I still need to test a powered USB hub for input behavior.
If we used 20ms+ monitors people would be choked but they’re willing to accept not only the additional input lag but also the chance to have their match interrupted. Either way it looks like we’ve got to go through with our bluetooth jammer plans or something - It’s a god damn mess for tournaments.
The chord is needed to sync the ds4 to the system initially no?
Plus having ds4s lying around seems like a good way to get a bunch of them stolen…
Another simpler (but probably less desirable) option is to have the tournament organizers provide the sticks at each station and make sure they never get changed unless someone specifically asks to use their own stick (for a good reason) ahead of time.
It’s a luxury, but I would have like a single station devoted to people who use pads or something.
Really, in the day of arcade cabs, you just had to play on what was there. It’s not much different, only in the sense that this time it would be because of complete lack of foresight on the parts of Sony and Microsoft rather than technical/financial limitations.
If you’re very clear ahead of time about how the tournament will be run, people will have no right to complain. Rounding up that many sticks, or having people volunteer theirs for a setup is another story.
Sucks that something that should be so simple really isn’t.
I think there’s gonna be a lot more pad players with this game as well. Especially since it has 3D game style input buffers, no more mash commands, etc there’s not really a lot of reason for new players to use stick
Wise man say:
Fuck em
I just saw a tournament ad located at the Bowness Pub. Low Five Productions or something? It was on Facebook and then it disappeared.
Are you guys interested in doing something midweek again? if you guys are willing to commute to the NW, we can easily set up a midweek night at Hexters to play some games. Cuz, bowness is my hood, and this is my scene, and there is no way they are taking that out from under me, lol.
For example, Wednesday at Hexters? If you guys are interested I can make it a go easily. Just let me know.
EDIT: Whatever you guys want to drink, or eat, I can talk to my boss and set up deals. Winner can get a free steak, free pitcher, you name it. Whatever you guys want, I can talk to my boss and see if we can make it happen.
time for jamie to pull a grandpa street fighter and pwn some n00bz, like uncle valle did to me when i was promoting tubby dog wednesdays lol
and yes, if there is another bar in town running a streets night i’m there!
(if i’m in here…)
I’ll talk to my boss this evening. Stupid that I didn’t think of this before. The bar is HUGE and is begging for another midweek sort of event to get some people in the bar. Bonus is if it’s a Wednesday I won’t necessarily have to work and can play with you guys.
It’s got a ping pong table, four pool tables, VLTs, a huge selection of beer, 6 draft beers, well-stocked back bar, cheap shit if you want to buy it and some mid-top-end stuff if you want as well. Wednesdays are I Think meatball nights which are kind of shitty so maybe I can see if we can get a better food special in there.
But yeah. Game comes out next Tuesday. If you guys want, next Wednesday we can meet up at Hexters for some games. Not exactly sure where we will put the games and etc. but if I talk to my boss the details can be ironed out quickly enough.
Jamie that sounds awesome. I’d be totally down!
Fuck yes. OK, I am going to talk to my boss tonight!!
Awesome! My boss is willing to contribute a PS4 to our cause. He is totally behind it 100%. I’ll lend my CRT so the house has a unit to use as well.
I’m going to work in an hour and will see what I can do for drink deals. What do you guys like to drink? The house draft is uber cheap during happy hour but whatever you guys want, I can get a deal for it.
Anything you guys would like to suggest, now is the time. I have a huge amount of creative control over Hexters, lol. We will probably play on the TVs closest to the fireplace.
But yeah. if you want to play Street Fighter 5 with us next Wednesday we will be at Hexters in Bowness, 6:00 PM
