sfv is mishandled at every conceivable level outside the gameplay that it literally boggles my mind
i am convinced literally nobody in the decision-making tree for that game has ever
a) played a fighting game before
b) talked to anyone who has played a fighting game before
c) has any idea about what a competitive game is
if it weren’t for the gameplay itself (however difficult it is to access that, due to all the surrounding problems) and some interesting matches shown on CPT this year, i would have no hesitation calling it one of the worst games i have ever bought
Some companies learn from past mistakes. Others are run by chimpanzees.
Street Fighter reminds me of that episode of Simpson’s when Lisa makes that amazing new doll for girls, but everyone just wants Barbie with a new hat instead
So what do you guys think of online play? Ranked is…bizarre. Kens/Ryus get to 3k+ just by mashing uppercut/super during blockstrings. Impossible to frametrap these kids. So I find myself stopping mid blockstring to bait uppercuts and punish, but I’m not learning anything.
People who don’t learn are always going to be able to flowchart to a certain point online that’s not really what bugs me. Ranked is annoying because it’s like “Who’s line is it anyway” with points. It feels like it’s all over the place with who I get matched up against and how many points I win or lose. Just wish LP meant a little more as a gauge of improvement for me, but it’s hard when I could play someone 1k points ahead of me and lose more than I gain when I play someone 200 points below me.
