i’ve read nothing but people saying final round was one of the worst tournaments they’ve ever attended
makes sense because apparently FR is a shitshow every year, they keep promising to improve and plan for growth better the following year but they never actually do it
i’ve read dozens of posts saying people were DQed because they had no idea where to go for their pool, because no information was posted until like 5am friday morning, with no instructions as to where the game was being run, and people were DQed out of 8am pools, even those people who woke up early for no reason other than to check their pool assignment (because they couldn’t find the stations). this apparently included people who traveled from out of country for their favorite game.
the best part was the TO trying to blackmail capcom to show the alex trailer at the end, lol. he had no idea if capcom was planning to do it, so he just… sat on the ground facing away from the crowd, pointed at the main screen and hoped something magical would happen.
oh well, as long as they have a premier spot and well-run tournaments like combo breaker don’t get one, players will have no choice but to go

I know this is still very early and gameplay/meta gameplay will evolve (I hope) but I wasn’t particular impressed with sfv. It was cool to watch because I didn’t know what to expect but I feel the element of surprise will disappear quite fast. This seems like a very linear game. Lots of footsies, lots of dashing forward and dash backwards trying to land a surprise low forward into super. Get the knockdown and try to bait a move. What I’m trying to say was it was kinda boring. If Cammy wasn’t so fun to play, I probably wouldn’t be playing this game.

that game definitely sucks hard but SFV overall doesn’t seem too bad to me. who knows how it’ll play in the long run
i think Ryu is the best character in the game because he has an unblockable fireball plus parry. he also has an overhead and a shoryuken.
Final Round’s top 128 or whatever, made me interested in a lot more of the characters. I really enjoy playing Bison in this game, he feels really impactful with everything he does, it’s pretty satisfying to catch somebody with a df+fp into a combo etc.
Nando made me want to delve into R. Mika, Literally who the WNF ken? made me want to dabble with Ken. Ryu is obviously godlike, i didn’t even consider how cheap denjin super is at low health until recently. Mago’s Karin was godlike and made her combos look fun, i didn’t even know you could end a lot of her combos in a shoulder which is pretty cool
SFV is waaaay more interesting to me than SFIV (and most other SF games tbh). And, yeah, a big part of that is I find a ton of characters cool. I’d never thought I’d want to play Ken before. In SFIV there were literally zero characters I wanted to play. I just did because I love fighting games in general.
Plus I’m a huge fan of the counter and V system, death to FA, reversal and OS nerfs, and input buffer, (good thing it has it too with all that input delay). I really like SFV mechanically. (Mostly cus they took a lot of ideas from Soul Calibur which is the besssst)
But I doubt it’ll have SFIV’s longevity for a myriad of reasons.
