Rayman debunked :(.

Also, the new Final Fantasy Dissidia looks awesome. I hope a Tactics character makes the roster. I will play the hell out of that on console…

is anyone going to dickens today? i may head out around 4pm or so

Thinking back at that whole “Square” thing on that SFV background that Ono couldn’t talk about… and a few days later we get an FF arcade fighting game? Wonder what all this is about. Are SF characters gonna be in Dissidia and FF characters in SFV? So many mysteries… Given FF has a pretty tight history with Sony, and with Sony’s big involvement with SFV it feels like something neat could be coming. FF characters in SFV would increase sales dramatically, I would think.

Maybe the SF characters will be in Dissidia and they’ll just get costumes or a stage in SF.

I doubt it’ll be anything huge since SF5 is supposed to be a canon game.

I dunno. All the Soul Calibur and MK games have had guest characters for the past ever, and they’re all considered canon (and have more of a plot than SF ever has).

The illuminati could make some portal dealy or something ;).

half FF characters. half SF characters.

i dont think it will happen but that would instantly kill my hype for the game.

I was just thinking a couple, not half… but this didn’t already kill your hype for the game?

I guess it’s about the same pace as Skullgirls ;).

ill pretend i didnt read that lol. you are lucky i like you ha ha.

also is there ANYBODY who is going to dickens? im gonna bring my xbox but it doesnt have ultra on it. if some one wants to play it you gotta bring it with you. i do have a ton of other fighting games though which are all good and fun to play.

this place is usually pretty active and as soon as sunday rolls around there is like NO communication at all. im headed down right now and ralph will be there for a short while.

I’ll be heading down in about an hour!

Everyone who’s ever played those games agree that their plots suck. Darth Vader and Yoda being in SC4 was the stupidest fucking idea ever wrought by a human being. SF’s plot isn’t anywhere near that bad.

I can’t envision Cloud being in SF5 hitting Ryu with his sword. It’s stupid and throws all the consistency of SF out the window. Why not just give all the characters weapons in that case? Or follow through with Deadpool’s quotes in MVC3 and make him a playable character with guns and katanas and everything.

SC’s plot sucks, true. But saying that about MK is just disingenuous. The majority of reviews raved about MK9’s story mode. And all you have to do is go to any major media site and look at the comments section in any article involving MK. You’ll see a bunch of people talking about how much they loved MK’s story mode, and are looking forward to MKX’s. The comics for MKX are selling out everywhere too already. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone ever say anything positive about SF’s story. Sure you and a lot of people in this thread think anything relating to the name MK is dumb, but that doesn’t mean most people do.

But yeah, I don’t expect a guy with a big sword either in a franchise where the biggest evolution for a character is the ability to take sunglasses on and off.

edit: I’ve heard outside the game SF story stuffs, like the Udon comics and one of the animes, was actually pretty good though. I’ve never looked into them myself.

You’re conflating things again. People who praised MK’s story mode weren’t praising its actual story, they were praising the fact that it gave them a lot of single player content to get involved with. The story itself was absolute garbage. There’s a scene where Jax gets pissed off at Johnny Cage and starts a petty fight with him and then the actual combat they engage in is just as brutal as if they were fighting their worst enemies to the death. They break each other’s bones and then just move on with the story like nothing happened. So obviously the story itself didn’t matter to people. What mattered to them is that it gave them an incentive to play the game for periods of time, unlocking cutscenes and stuff, even if the story it was telling was on the same level as what you’d read from a 13 year old’s fanfiction.net account. Casuals just want an excuse to play for a long time by themselves, they don’t care what it is. THAT’S what they were praising. Not the story.

The same thing happens with the comics. It’s not the story that it’s telling, it’s just the fact that it’s collector’s content. People heard that MVC3 was going to have a comic bundled with the special edition and went nuts over it, and pre-orders for that edition sold out immediately. Then the story inside was just like 7 or so pages and didn’t even have a resolution. Blah blah blah, Wesker opens a portal between the Marvel and Capcom worlds, oh look Galactus shows up, the end. Hell, even I was roped into buying the SE just for that, because I already had a vested interest in the series and wanted that as well. People who want this sort of stuff don’t have any standards about what it actually is.

i liked mk’s story actually. tbh though i don’t play a fighting game for the story. if capcom wants to let ryu and cloud slap each other around its fine. as long as its fun for me i could be playing a fighting game based off of frozen and i still wouldn’t give two shits over the story.

It’s not really a collectors item if it’s digital as well is it? And sales would drop off after the first issue if people didn’t like reading the story. Physical copies of MKX sold out, and every issue of the digital version has been top on comixology’s sales as well. It’s not really comparable to the 5 page thingy that came with Marvel. People have to go to a place where you don’t buy video games to buy the physical copy.

Would you have said the exact same thing about Injustice, who’s comic is now renewed for a fourth season, and is not only one of the highest selling comics right now, but also one of the most consistently critically acclaimed? That logic doesn’t seem to fly when a story is that succesful long term. And we’ll see if it happens with MK too, since it has already been renewed for a second season. If stuff like this unrelated to the direct purchase of the game, where people have to go to a place where you don’t buy video games to buy the physical copy of a book, were as easy a sell as you’re trying to say, a lot more companies would be doing it.

The MK movie was also insanely succesful, when most video game movies are not (Siskel even gave it a thumbs up at the time ;))
