Yeah, I figured.

Game of thrones season 5 trailer

Scratch that.

Don’t think I’ll be going to Dickens. I get the impression everyone is watching the super bowl.

…hmm. katy perry.

i think smash 4 must have the highest move whiff-to-hit ratio in any fighting game in history, i wouldn’t be surprised if it’s lower than 10% of all move attempts making contact with the opponent

even the best players in the world basically can’t hit each other no matter how hard they’re trying

i also think if somebody wanted to play reeeeeeally lame, they could time out every match without much difficulty

I am so hype

magical tom Brady #1 ever

Watched the last 10 minutes of the superbowl, it was pretty crazy and pretty dumb…

That’s my analysis, anyone want to play HoTS?

definitely the wackiest finish to a game i’ve seen in 10 years

fixed

melee has balance problems but man if it isn’t the fastest pace game of all time lol

if you want to hit someone in that game, you’re gonna

I suck at hots, but its fun!
definitely better now that we have a means for voice chat too lol

We accomplished stuff that time! With the power of friendship.

Edit: Melee finals had over 100k viewers?? Madness

i wanted to set up a mumble server as a project

we could use that if I get it goin?

I already got it setup, you’re welcome to use it as well

I wanna go back and watch the apex finals, i was entirely distracted by the superbowl and HOTS last night lol

back to actual FGC news,

interesting… Square Enix owns the SFV logo… hmmmmm

After watching Melee top 8 and reading about the various rivalries/story lines going into APEX, I found APEX quite entertaining to watch despite knowing very little of Smash. I can definitely see why the majority of the community prefers Melee over Brawl & Smash4. Besides being faster paced and technical the game seems like it really punishes mistakes hard and the ability to make comebacks with a 2-3 stock deficit is definitely possible with one good read and strong ledge guarding. It doesn’t seem like that’s really possible in Smash 4 and matches take fucking forever in Smash 4 despite being 6 min 2 stock over Melee’s 8 min 4 stock.

Voice chat definitely makes the game a lot better. That and five-stacking made for some pretty fun games.

I was hoping that the next hero rotation would have Vala in it because I want to try out a DPS hero and she looks like the most fun. Zeratul is in there so I might try him, but I think I’ll end up playing a lot of Diablo since he suits my play style a lot more.

I’ll probably be on around 8 tonight if people want to play again.

i was pretty surprised at how many people on my twitter feed were saying they preferred watching smash 4 to melee

some of it had to do with character variety (a valid complaint about melee, though it seems that smash 4’s meta isn’t trending towards a ton of variety either), but… that’s why project M is so important in the smash scene, it exists as a bridge between the hardcore tech skill of melee and the character variety we expect from modern fighting games, fixing what’s bad about melee while keeping what’s good

but i was particularly surprised to see so many people like the smash 4 edge game, which I feel (along with poor movement) is the biggest problem with smash 4

maybe it’s just having been in the smash scene for so long and seeing the evolution of the various edge games from 64 all the way up to smash 4… maybe if you knew nothing about (competitive) smash before this, the smash 4 edge game feels like an improvement? i dunno, i wish i could explain it

before anyone compares this situation to the ST vs SF4 debate, you should understand that smash is in a unique position: we had a very well-received fan rebalance in project M, and a very poorly received official title in brawl to show people what does and doesn’t work in the smash design space, so it’s not just “oh i like the old game because i’m old”… if PM/brawl didn’t exist, then i probably would also support trying some new ideas that smash 4 tries. but… we learned lessons from those games which nintendo didn’t seem interested in applying, and that’s the aggravating part

but then again, if lots of people prefer smash 4 to melee, maybe i can’t even make that claim anymore

Question to Evo goes from two years back: Could you hear commentary in the viewing hall? (Watching the top 8 on the big screen instead of in person in the other room).

to my above point, i guess i’m just bitter that post-SF4, i can’t seem to find a game that gains mainstream traction, and they keep “losing” for different reasons

project M is a phenomenal game that got nintendo’D
SFxT had a lot of promise and did certain things really well, but got capcom’D
KI is a really interesting game but is getting microsoft’D

and the games that are succeeding are ultra SF4 and smash 4, games i have legitimate design beefs with but it doesn’t seem to matter

is it enough to just find a game you like and play it with a few other people, even if it’ll never be big? do i “need” to have the game also be mainstream popular to justify investing in it?

should i just give up and play league of legends like everyone else
