it don’t matter to me as long as the quality of their first party games is so impressive
it’d be a lot worse if they were like Capcom, where they make crazily baffling decisions and the quality of their releases has absolutely, completely tanked over the past decade or so
I think the argument is that their first party games could be even better if they actually embraced modern use of the internet, and weren’t trapped in the past. (Not even being able to voice chat with friends during Mario Kart or Smash is super dumb)
but they don’t want to be responsible for giving a portal for 12 year old kids to SWAT nerds, or call their mothers cunts when they get bopped in smash online.
Smash has no future as a competitive fighting game precisely BECAUSE they ignore that side of it. Abandonment is a surefire way to make a competitive game die. They just don’t care. To them it’s just another one of their annual releases.
reddit is ok but its largely an echo chamber of sjw autists and so actual discussion pretty much never happens since people get offended and just downvote dissenting opinions
I can’t stand reddit for both the same and opposite reasons. From what I notice it’s just hordes of people using SJW as a perogative term (even if no one is in the thread saying anything relating to that) and downvoting anyone with sense. But either way the entire voting system is absolutely abysmal.
In other news… I beat Shovel Knight. Why do people praise that game so much? It’s way-way-way too easy. Every single boss except the last one (who is also super easy) can just be beaten by bum-rushing them and jumping on their head repeatedly. If it was released during the NES or SNES era it definitely would be long forgotten.

I struggled with the science lab boss (Explodatorium?), I think he was the 3rd or 4th level
it’s not as hard as classic NES games but I think it’s just the right difficulty to be enjoyed

I heard that from my friends too, but I beat him first try with no problems. Just launched out a million bouncy booger balls (which also make a joke of most bosses, especially the second last one lawl) and then just charging at him and jumping on his head like every other boss.
It is charming, but that charm wore off half-way through once I realized the gameplay was a snorefest compared to Mega Man and Castlevania games (which it drew its influence from).
Eryi’s Action was the much better platformer of 2014, IMO. Mega Man X series is the pinnacle of good difficulty. They’re not overly difficult like a lot of platformers at the time, but not a joke either (like Shovel Knight is). I was hoping Shovel Knight was more like that.

It’s interesting to note that society is always in a state of “us vs them”. And currently the online trend is “kids with too much time on their hands” vs “SJWs”. The majority of large threads anywhere end up devolving into this lately. A necessary form of social control as old as time, I guess ;).

I don’t think shovel knight ever claimed to be super hard, it just is what it is. maybe some media outlets said it was hard once and a bunch of people perpetuated it, but I went in expecting a charming Mega Man lite game and that’s what it was to me
I died maybe 4 times on the science lab boss, and I died a handful of other times on the world map-roaming bosses (the “Hammer Bros” bosses), plus maybe 2 or 3 times per stage, seems about right
